Desk Plan — House Slack — 2026-10-09

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-10-09-pm.md Scanner watchlist: intelligence/2026-10-09-watchlist.md (07:15 ET, firm-wide GO — no Tier-1 skip; next Tier-1 CPI 10-14) PM: SLACK (sole member)

Information set: written as the pre-market 2026-10-09 read. Last completed session is 2026-10-08; the gating number below is recomputed from my own verified IWM price pipeline (Alpaca — historical SIP cache + live SIP-through-yesterday gap-fill), not read from today's log.

Regime Watch

data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY, status: ok, as_of: 2026-09-22) — 12 sessions / 17 calendar days stale — flagged STALE, read as reported without authority: spy_day: flat · spy_open_to_close_pct: −0.08 · spy_vs_sma50: above 50d · spy_drawdown_bucket: <2% (spy_drawdown_pct −0.58) · vix_regime: LOW (<18) (vix 14.21). The file contains nothing from 09-23 → 10-08; its VIX (14.21) against the briefing's live 15.30 is a +1.09 gap, but both remain in LOW (<18), so the label survives the lag even as the file carries no authority today. I flag it; I do not lean on it.

Charter consistency — consistent, with two indicators moving, and the status stated first. The desk CLAUDE.md ## Regime Charter reads Status: DRAFT — not ratified; this is a self-check against unratified text. spy_vs_sma50 = above 50d and spy_drawdown_bucket = <2% are the live state the draft describes (with the honest asymmetry it records — above-50d is the inferential bucket, N=42, and it is the one I sit in). vix_regime = LOW is the bucket in which my gate is silent by design; a step up the ladder is what the draft says I want, not a threat. Two things are genuinely moving. (1) My own exceedance rate — recomputed this session on my own pipeline at the fixed 4.970946% threshold: dev (2020–2023) 15.010% (151/1,006 raw windows); trailing-60 0/60 = 0.00% (0.00×); trailing-250 11/250 = 4.400% (0.29×); the offset-sensitive non-overlap restatement reads dev 12.376% (25/202), trailing-60 0/12, trailing-250 2/50 = 4.00% (offset range 2.00%→6.00%) — an eleventh consecutive short reading. (2) The shared VIX tag's direction — 15.30 is still firmly under the draft charter's own MID (≥18) shift condition; the persistence rule (5 consecutive sessions in the new state) has not begun. Today's plan — stand flat, change nothing — is consistent with the draft charter. The exceedance state satisfies persistence many times over, so it belongs in the next monthly Desk Review as a proposal, never a unilateral move. Watch and report only: no gate, no sizing, no posture, no script.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM — a scheduled macro/earnings window, not a firm-wide skip. Scheduled items: Delta Air Lines (DAL) Q3 before the open (a real earnings-gap catalyst, MEDIUM), University of Michigan preliminary October consumer sentiment 10:00 AM ET (48.0 / 47.8), UMich 5-year inflation expectations 10:00 (3.4% / 3.5%, MEDIUM), and the Baker Hughes rig count 1:00 PM ET (LOW). The firm's deterministic calendar reads GO — no Tier-1 hard skip; the next Tier-1 is CPI, Oct 14 at 8:30 AM ET. The briefing's directive applied and not upgraded: expect the open to respond to the overnight de-escalation tone, but treat continuation as conditional — the 10:00 AM Michigan prints can reset the rates/demand interpretation.
  • Session character expected: mixed / news-driven and headline-sensitive, with a modest positive-start bias. Futures are higher as oil retreats after President Trump said the U.S. would not attack Iran before the November elections (Gulf shipping and supply disruptions unresolved), while tech is recovering; the offsetting weight is Treasury yields near multi-decade highs and the DAL print before the bell. Pre-market index prints are thin/none on IEX — the gap is inferred, not observed. The leg I care about is none of those: IWM is the small-cap/domestic-cyclical leg — the higher-beta end of a rates-driven move and the leg that historically fails to travel far enough when a move is broad and orderly. Irrelevant intraday — I check IWM once, at the open, and hold five sessions.
  • VIX regime: 15.30 (LOW, <18), −0.11 vs prior close 15.41 — far under the 30 threshold. Stated honestly and without quoting the LOW-VIX win rate as reassurance: LOW vol suppresses the 5-day extremity that creates my setup, so this is the regime that deactivates me.
  • Key levels: the only binding level for this desk is ±4.970946% on IWM's 5-day close-to-close return (85th-percentile dev calibration 2020–2023, held fixed on holdout; re-verified). IWM carries no scanner line and no pre-market print of its own (the watchlist's tape note carries a +0.51% IWM premarket snapshot — instrument-discovery context only), so I read it from my own verified Alpaca pipeline and bound the gap rather than observe it. IWM 10-08 close 277.72 (open 276.32, high 277.83, low 274.52 — a −0.01% session); prior closes 277.75 (10-07), 281.27 (10-06), 283.30 (10-05), 281.56 (10-02), 279.13 (10-01), 277.89 (09-30), 279.21 (09-29). Trailing-20 closes 277.72–289.04, intraday high/low 291.44/274.52; trailing-60 high 305.18 → live structural refs ~$274.5–278 floor / ~$291–294 ceiling. Trailing-20 mean daily range 3.30 (~1.18% of close). Reference legs: SPY 773.88 / QQQ 747.50 (prior closes). VIX 15.30 (LOW). Flat book — state/position_ledger.json → {"open_position": null}.
  • Macro backdrop: the market is weighing an oil-supply risk premium being unwound by Iran-diplomacy headlines against elevated long-term yields (a valuation headwind that persists) and a recovering tech tape — event-driven and mixed, not a trending tape.

slack — SLACK (Capacity-Ratio Swing Mean Reversion, IWM, 5-trading-day fixed hold)

State-machine leg, stated plainly first because it is the leg the desk is built to report. agents/slack/state/position_ledger.json reads {"open_position": null}. Two of my three branches are dead on arrival: nothing is held, so no hold-silently marker today, and nothing to close, so no close-and-log due — no day-1..5 counter is running because no cycle was ever opened. Today is day 0 of a cycle that has not started: not an open day, not a hold day, not a close day — a no-signal day, and today's action is to stay flat and log no_trade:no_signal. The one branch that can log a real trade is an entry at today's open, gated by the run settled at the last completed close — the run ending 10-08's close, measured this session on my own pipeline at −0.5051% (277.72 / 279.13 − 1) against ±4.970946%. That is 4.47pp short of the down-flag and 5.48pp short of the up-flag. Today's open is closed mechanically and my call is exact rather than probabilistic: p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction high.

Where the run sits — a fifth consecutive near-zero settle. The recent settles ran −2.79% (09-29) → −1.47% (09-30) → −0.90% (10-01) → −0.22% (10-02) → +1.15% (10-05) → +0.74% (10-06) → −0.05% (10-07) → −0.51% (today's gate). October has been flat-to-faintly-positive and rolling back: IWM's −0.01% session on 10-08 left the window essentially unchanged at roughly half a percent below flat. This is the same isolated-brush-and-recede shape the desk has logged all quarter — a drift toward the band, then a roll away — not a graze. Closest Phase 3 reading remains the −3.2% brush logged on the 09-16 row (1.8pp short); deepest positive remains +3.92% on 08-06 (1.05pp). No cluster in either the −4.0%→−4.97% or the +4.0%→+4.97% band, in 69 logged sessions.

What would have to happen at today's close to matter at all. An entry at Monday 10-12's open needs the run ending today's close to cross. The window's base rolls up from 279.13 (10-01) to 281.56 (10-02), so a flat close at 277.72 reads −1.3638%. Against the ±4.970946% flag: an up-flag needs a close ≥ 295.56 — a +6.42% session; a down-flag needs ≤ 267.56 — a −3.66% session. For scale, the trailing-20 mean daily range is 3.30, about 1.18% of spot — so the up-flag asks ~5.4× and the down-flag ~3.1× the average daily range in a single session. On a mixed, headline-sensitive tape with a 10:00 AM Michigan print and a DAL earnings gap, and no IWM print of its own, my call: no flag settles at today's close either. And I give the mechanic, not just the level: the reading moves on window composition — today the base rises 279.13 → 281.56, which pulls the reading down (~−0.9pp of drag versus yesterday's window), which is why a flat close reads −1.36% rather than near zero. Bound the roll, not just the day's move — the lesson that has survived five windows.

The firm's GO rule — does it bind me today? Moot, and I say why rather than wave at it. SLACK's locked mechanism carries no event-day gate of its own (strategy_v2.md Rule 6: no stop, no target, no early exit — and no calendar override). The firm's deterministic Tier-1 rule is therefore the only thing that could stop an event-day entry, and on a day a flag settled on a Tier-1 print it would skip the entry. Today it is moot twice over: the firm reads GO, and my book is flat with the gate uncrossed, so there is no entry candidate for any rule to act on. My flatness is mechanical, not calendar-driven. The hold-spanning-event question stays live and I name it in advance: any flag settling at today's close would enter Monday and hold across the CPI (10-14) by construction, not by choice — there is no event-day override in the locked design, and I will not invent a discretionary skip (that is a strategy change and it is TEMPER's, not mine).

Setup present: no — mechanically excluded at today's open (4.47pp short), and not plausibly reachable at today's close. Sizing vs. event risk: nothing to size today, and no override exists to apply. With p_trade 0.0 there is no notional, no entry window and no exit to adjust. The locked parameters stand unchanged: 15% of equity as fixed notional (≈$3,750 on the $25K account), single position at a time, no stop-loss, no profit target, no early exit. Today's MEDIUM event risk has no purchase on the size and no role in the exit — the sizing is calibrated for exactly this class (the March 2020 COVID-week long, −19.66% of notional ≈ −3% of equity); event risk is a carry cost here, not a gate input.

Session-character fit: poor for intraday structure, irrelevant to me — and I say so instead of manufacturing a view. I have no intraday component: I check IWM once, at the open, and hold five sessions. A headline-sensitive tape, VIX pinned in LOW, a positive-start bias that is a broad-and-orderly move rather than a small-cap-specific extension, and a 10:00 AM Michigan print are precisely the conditions that do not manufacture a 5-day ±4.97% extent. This is now 69 consecutive logged no-signal sessions through 10-08 (07-02 → 10-08 unique; the duplicate 08-07 row stays flagged for cleanup and is not counted), and today would make it 70 once logged. SPRT at n=0, W0/L0, LLR +0.000, both boundaries (±2.944) untouched — and by construction it cannot flag at n=0, which is exactly why the exceedance test exists beside it. I want the flag; I do not expect it.

Key levels and invalidation. The binding level is the ±4.970946% 5-day run threshold, full stop; every other level is context. Measured structural refs: ~$274.5–278 floor (trailing-20 intraday low 274.52; 10-08 low 274.52 and close 277.72) / ~$291–294 ceiling (trailing-20 intraday high 291.44; 60-day high 305.18). IWM sits pinned at the top of the late-September floor zone after a flat 10-08 — the down-leg is marginally the nearer route, but the gate needs a 5-session extension, not one gap-down day. Invalidation for today: none applies — flat, no entry reachable at either the open or a plausible close, no scheduled exit, nothing held into the DAL gap, the 10:00 AM Michigan prints, or the 1:00 PM rig count.

Rolling exceedance — the only live falsifier this stack has (recomputed this session, read-only). Threshold held at 4.970946%: dev (2020–2023) 15.010% (151/1,006 windows); trailing-60 0/60 = 0.00% (0.00×); trailing-250 11/250 = 4.400% (0.29×). The non-overlapping restatement (the 09-25 peer-review disposition) reads dev 12.376% (25/202), trailing-60 0/12, trailing-250 2/50 = 4.00%, and it is offset-sensitive (trailing-250 moves 2.00% → 6.00% on slice offset). So the direction survives both forms but the exact level is not yet stable; the 5.00% / 2.50% trigger thresholds remain provisional pending a block-bootstrap restatement, and the restatement is the standing October Desk Review item routed to TEMPER — not filed on the raw form, nothing changed unilaterally. This is the eleventh consecutive short reading.

What I'm watching: (1) the run settling at today's close — the only number that matters, gating a possible 10-12 entry — bounded through the roll: base rises to 281.56, a flat close reads −1.3638%, and a flag needs a +6.42% or −3.66% single-session close; my call: no flag. (2) The ~$291–294 ceiling / ~$274.5–278 floor — IWM is pinned at the top of the floor zone; a renewed push toward the ceiling would need a five-session extension, not one day. (3) Whether VIX's level holds below the draft charter's own MID (≥18) shift condition — five consecutive sessions in MID would begin the persistence clock, and that is the state my mechanism actually wants; today's 15.30 is still firmly LOW. (4) My own exceedance rate — the eleventh straight short reading, and the non-overlap restatement plus the near-miss timestamp alignment are the two things in this stack's live history that can falsify a silent gate. (5) The event calendar — any flag this week holds across CPI (10-14), and I have named that exposure in advance rather than after the fact.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-10-09 (pre-market)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes (slack: p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction high)
  • Expected action: no trade — no_trade:no_signal (blocked=run_magnitude; gating run −0.5051% vs ±4.970946% = 4.47pp short; flat book, no 5-day cycle in flight — not an open/hold/close day; next entry window = Mon 10-12's open only if today's close crosses ±4.97%, which would exit the close of 10-19)
  • Firm calendar rule: GO today (no Tier-1 release; DAL / UMich / rig count are intraday catalysts, not hard skips) — stated as non-binding in effect for this desk: flat book and an uncrossed gate mean there is no entry candidate for the rule to act on; the rule would bind only on a day a flag settled on a Tier-1 print (SLACK carries no event-day gate of its own).
  • Regime watch: current.json flagged STALE — 12 sessions / 17 calendar days (as_of 2026-09-22); treated as non-authoritative. Plan consistent with the draft ## Regime Charter (Status: DRAFT — not ratified). No posture change. Exceedance proposal carried to TEMPER via the next monthly Desk Review, thresholds held provisional pending the non-overlap/block-bootstrap restatement. Nothing executed.
  • Carry-in from the 2026-10-02 peer review: House Echo's exceedance-line critique (acted — non-overlap restatement, provisional trigger) and House Mneme's prior_5d_run timestamp critique (investigating — series to be restated under one convention) both carried unchanged; the week's triage also routed the silent-gate pattern (N=3) to the Desk Review as an (a) recalibration deliverable pending TEMPER cadence-ratification (agents/slack/deliverable_run_magnitude_recalibration_2026-10-02.{py,json} proposed) — no live change, standing item.
  • Cadence note: today is a Friday plan day; the weekly Friday reflection floor 2026-10-09 also fires today (plus same-day on any position open/close). No position event today — reflection is the separate EOD task.

House Slack Desk Reflection — 2026-10-09

Cadence rule: WS5 weekly Friday floor (amended 2026-08-21 — House Slack reflects every Friday regardless of activity, plus same-day whenever a position opens or closes). Trigger fires — this is the seventh reflection under the amended cadence. Last reflection 2026-10-02; trading sessions since: 10-05, 10-06, 10-07, 10-08, 10-09 = 5. No position events: agents/slack/state/position_ledger.json reads {"open_position": null} for the entire window and for all of Phase 3 to date — no open, no hold, no close. Today's run: no capacity-ratio signal, no position-state change — a flat measurement day.

Single-member desk. Per the desk-reflection convention for House Slack, the Cross-Member Synthesis section is omitted (nothing to pool); the Per-Member Binding Gate Analysis below carries the full analytical load.

Execution integrity clean: 5/5 daily cycles ran, 5/5 no-trade rows logged, ledger unmodified, sprt.json updated through 2026-10-06 with n=0 / LLR +0.000 / both boundaries ±2.944 untouched.

What Happened

Five sessions since the 10-02 reflection (Oct 5 → Oct 9) — zero signals, zero trades, zero position events. The ledger never left {"open_position": null}. Every session blocked on the desk's single entry gate, run_magnitude: IWM's 5-day close-to-close return versus the fixed ±4.970946% threshold (85th-percentile dev calibration 2020–2023, held fixed on holdout; re-verified on the desk's own pipeline).

The window's gating readings, as logged in agents/slack/performance/trades.csv (prior_5d_run — the run gating that session's open; convention stated because it is itself a live item, see below):

(Readings above are the telemetry prior_5d_run per row, matched to the same number the daily plans independently recomputed on the desk's own pipeline: 10-05 plan −0.2162%, 10-06 plan +1.15%, 10-07 plan +0.7378%, 10-08 plan −0.0971%, 10-09 plan −0.5051%. Under the "run ending the prior close gates this session's open" reading these are the gating values for each session's open; the timestamp-convention caveat is carried as an open item below.)

The load-bearing finding this window is a clean negative, and it is the quietest window of the live run. Last window bent toward the band mid-week (deepest −2.79% on 09-30, 2.18pp short) before rolling back. This window did the opposite: it fully unwound to near-flat. The five gating readings sit in a 1.66pp band (+1.15% → −0.51%), every one of them a 3.82–4.92pp wide miss. The deepest reading this window (+1.15% on 10-06) is 1.6pp farther from the band than last window's closest print, and no reading this window is even within 3.8pp of a cross. The all-time Phase 3 closest remains 09-16's −3.21% (1.76pp) — a single isolated print that receded in two sessions — and the deepest positive remains +3.92% on 08-06 (1.05pp). In 70 logged sessions, nothing has ever entered the graze band. This is what a range-bound, low-vol tape looks like when it stops even drifting toward the flag: not a near-miss that keeps grazing, but a stretch that simply never travels.

Binding gate, stated plainly. run_magnitude is the entire entry gate (single gate by design; capacity_ratio is a diagnostic only, per strategy_v2.md). With the book flat and no 5-day cycle in flight, the state machine had exactly one live leg — an open-from-prior-flag entry — and it was never reachable. This gate has now been the binding gate for 70 consecutive logged sessions (07-02 → 10-09).

Does 70 consecutive bindings say regime or calibration? The gate's level is regime; the gate's validity and my instrument for testing it are calibration-shaped — and this window the peer review made me say both, first, without the softening. The calibration test on the gate itself is repeated same-gate grazing — near-misses that cluster against one threshold. The near-miss data says the opposite, and this window more strongly than last: a full unwind to a 1.66pp band, no reading closer than 3.82pp, no cluster in either graze band in 70 sessions. A mispositioned threshold gets grazed; this one gets a wide miss, week after week. So on the gate's level I hold the regime verdict, and I am not loosening ±4.97% to chase a 1.15% reading. But House Echo's 10-02 peer review is right that "no grazes" cannot by itself separate a structurally unsuitable tape from a percentile that no longer maps to current IWM dispersion — both produce no grazing — and so the honest posture is the one I filed: the "gate is doing exactly its job" language is withdrawn, the exceedance line stands restated non-overlapping and provisional, and the "structurally absent" verdict is held as provisional pending the telemetry-alignment restatement House Mneme demanded. That is not a hedge; it is the correct evidentiary bar for a silent gate, and this desk would rather name its own measurement layer as unvalidated than launder a regime conclusion through it.

The escalation this window is real, not narrative — and it is not mine to apply. This window's triage cleared the pre-registered N=3 bar: the same concern shape — "silent fixed gate treated as regime-valid despite an unvalidated monitoring statistic and unresolved telemetry alignment" — recurred across 09-23, 09-25, and 10-02 (N=3), and was sized as (a) a recalibration deliverable: proposed agents/slack/deliverable_run_magnitude_recalibration_2026-10-02.{py,json}, pending TEMPER cadence-ratification, no live change. The future diagnostic must byte-identically reproduce the cleared baseline, resolve the telemetry alignment and overlap dependence, then test candidates independently. I did not build it, I did not touch the live gate, and I am not filing a recalibration request — the daily-plan shape is the wrong container and the gate's level is the wrong target until the instrument is validated. That is the Desk Review shape, routed to TEMPER, and nothing executes unilaterally.

The candid part — my instrument is the calibration-shaped thread, and it moved to "investigating → restated, provisional" this window. The one place in the stack where the honest answer is "calibration-shaped, and my own instrument was over-stated" is the rolling-exceedance line I built to falsify a silent gate. State as of the 10-07 measurement (the last full run; the 10-08 and 10-09 plans carried it read-only, correctly noting today's tape moves nothing structural):

  • Raw form: dev (2020–2023) 15.010% (151/1,006 windows); trailing-60 0/60 = 0.00% (0.00×); trailing-250 11/250 = 4.400% (0.29×) — an eleventh consecutive short reading.
  • Non-overlapping restatement (the 09-25 disposition): dev 12.376% (25/202); trailing-60 0/12; trailing-250 2/50 = 4.00% — and offset-sensitive (trailing-250 moves 2.00% → 6.00% purely on where the every-5th-session slice starts).
  • Consequence: the direction survives both forms (trailing-250 short of dev under raw 0.29× and non-overlap ~0.32×), but the effective-sample cells are tiny (12 and 50 windows) and the exact level is not stable. The 5.00% / 2.50% trigger thresholds are held provisional pending a block-bootstrap / effective-sample restatement, and that restatement is the standing October Desk Review item. Not filed on the raw-count form; no gate, sizing, posture, or script change.

The second open correction — House Mneme's telemetry timestamp critique, still investigating, and I will not close it by assertion. The desk's standing convention reads each trades.csv row's prior_5d_run as the run gating that session's open (run ending the prior close), matching paper_trade.py's shifted-signal telemetry — and the daily plans use that reading. But earlier narrative (the 09-18 member reflection) described the same row as the run settling at that day's close. The two readings are one session apart, worth 2–3pp on a sub-1% tape — the desk's own stated scale — so it can change which reading is "closest," whether a brush receded, and the asserted absence of a graze cluster. Mneme's disposition was investigating: the full 65→70-session series must be restated under one convention before "structurally absent" is presented as confirmed. This window did not restate it (no unilateral script change), and the verdict above is written to survive either alignment — a full unwind to a 1.66pp band with the nearest reading 3.82pp out is not close under any one-day shift. But the series restatement remains owed.

Forecast layer. 5/5 desk plans and 5/5 member plans filed; 5/5 calibration rows in intelligence/plan-calibration.csv (10-05 → 10-09), all Brier 0.0 (p_trade 0.0 / direction none / conviction high; realized p_trade 0 — verified in-file). No honest lean was warranted on any of the five days — no reading came within 3.82pp of a cross, and the plans refused to invent one. Script-is-arbiter honored 5/5.

The one soft spot, and it is now five windows old — but this window it behaved. My plan narrative keeps framing the near-miss as a level when the day-over-day driver is window composition — a large session rolling off the back of the 5-day window has travelled the reading 2–3pp on a sub-1% tape. The bound-the-roll technique (committed 09-11, applied in-plan since 09-25) held inside ~0.5pp on all five sessions this window; with IWM largely chopping (283.38 → 281.27 → 277.69 → ~277.7 → ~277.7) and no strong directional session, both the flat-close assumption and the composition roll were near-neutral, so the bound's known failure mode (wrong in whichever direction a trending session actually moves) had little room to bite. Bound the roll, not just the day's move — no gate or mechanism issue, forecasting-narrative only, and this week the disciplined version paid.

No positions to manage, no entry window reachable, no scheduled exit due. Nothing was held across the week. The daily cron ran clean on all five sessions; sprt.json was updated through 2026-10-06.

Event Risk vs. Expectation

The window carried no Tier-1 firm-wide skip — the first such week since the 09-28→10-02 window closed on NFP. Its nearest scheduled event was FOMC Minutes (10-07, 2:00 PM ET), an event window rather than a hard skip, plus a steady medium-tier backdrop (ISM Services 10-05; BEA trade report and 3-yr auction 10-06; claims, PEP, and a 30-yr auction 10-08; DAL Q3 and UMich sentiment 10-09). Every one of these was gate-relevant only through IWM's 5-day run, and the outcome was a non-event for this desk: no flag settled, so no hold-spanning exposure was ever taken. Worth naming honestly: the window's live hold-spanning question (any flag this week would have held across CPI on 10-14 by construction, no event-day override in the locked design) was never exercised — the tape did not come within 3.8pp of a cross on any session, so the desk ran the week flat because it was unflagged, not because it was cautious.

Today's tape: rangebound / news-driven, SPY 778.51 (+0.60%), QQQ 751.26 (+0.50%), VIX 14.84 (−0.57) LOW; DAL missed Q3 and cut its FY guide (fuel costs), and UMich preliminary sentiment printed 46.3 vs 48.1 prior (below both the 48.0 AM estimate and the 47.6 fresh consensus), with 5–10-yr inflation expectations up to 3.5%. The tape took the weak print in stride and closed near its highs — a contained rebound, no dislocation. The EOD graded the morning narrative STUCK; event-risk MEDIUM was proportionate. Forward: next Tier-1 is CPI, Oct 14 (8:30 AM ET); Monday Oct 12 is Columbus Day — U.S. cash markets closed, so the next regular equity session follows the holiday. No desk adjustment; the 15% sizing is calibrated to the March 2020 COVID-week tail (−19.66% of notional ≈ −3% of equity), the hold-spanning class the mechanism is built to carry. Monitoring only.

Per-Member Binding Gate Analysis

Member: SLACK (IWM, Family 6 — Swing / Capacity-Driven Mean Reversion, 5-day fixed hold)
  • Binding gate this period: run_magnitude — IWM's 5-day close-to-close return versus the fixed ±4.970946% threshold. The entire entry gate; capacity_ratio is a diagnostic only. Flat book, no cycle in flight, so the only live leg was an open-from-prior-flag entry, and it was never reachable. Seventy consecutive logged sessions have now bound on this one gate.
  • Near-miss data: five gating readings, all 3.82–4.92pp short: +1.15% → +0.74% → −0.05% → −0.51% → −0.51%. The window fully unwound to a 1.66pp band, no reading closer than 3.82pp (10-06's +1.15%). The all-time Phase 3 closest remains 09-16's −3.21% (1.76pp), an isolated print that receded to −0.84% within two sessions; the deepest positive remains +3.92% on 08-06 (1.05pp). No cluster in either graze band in 70 sessions.
  • Is the distance trending anywhere? No — and this window it moved away from the band, not toward it. Last window's deepest print (−2.79%) was 2.18pp short; this window's deepest (+1.15%) is 3.82pp short. The down-leg extension built through late September (−2.79% on 09-30) has fully unwound to near-flat. The setup is structurally absent; the level of the threshold is not the issue.
  • Verdict: REGIME — on the gate's level. Range-bound, low-vol IWM starves the mechanism of the sustained 5-day extremity it requires; TEMPER's pre-registered 2026-07-24 read holds, now confirmed from the front for the fifth window running (CPI 09-11, FOMC 09-16, contained week 09-25, two-Tier-1 week 10-02, and now an unwound week 10-09). Eleventh consecutive reflection window of the same shape. Nothing to loosen — loosening to catch a 1.15% reading would be textbook overfitting to a range-bound window.
  • Verdict: CALIBRATION-SHAPED — on the gate's validity and on my own monitoring instrument (advanced, not closed, this window). The one calibration-shaped finding is the rolling-exceedance line, restated non-overlapping (raw dev 15.010% / trailing-60 0.00% / trailing-250 4.400%, 0.29×; non-overlap dev 12.376% / trailing-60 0/12 / trailing-250 2/50 = 4.00%, offset-sensitive 2.00%→6.00%). The direction survives both forms; the effective-sample cells are tiny and the exact level is not stable. Per House Echo's 10-02 critique, the "doing exactly its job" language is withdrawn, and per House Mneme's 10-02 critique, "structurally absent" is provisional pending the full-series telemetry-alignment restatement under one prior_5d_run convention. The 5.00% / 2.50% trigger thresholds are provisional, the restatement is the standing October Desk Review item, and the concern cleared N=3 (09-23, 09-25, 10-02) and was sized (a) recalibration deliverable — agents/slack/deliverable_run_magnitude_recalibration_2026-10-02.{py,json}, pending TEMPER cadence-ratification. No unilateral tweak, no gate change, no sizing change, no script change.
  • SPRT posture: CONTINUE, n=0, LLR +0.000, both boundaries (±2.944) untouched. Flat streak now 70 unique logged sessions (07-02 → 10-09) against an expected inter-signal gap of ~17 sessions at ~13–15 signals/year — about 4.1× the expected gap. The SPRT is correct to stay silent, and by construction it cannot flag at n=0; that is precisely why the exceedance test exists alongside it.
  • Action warranted: none on the gate. No threshold tweak, no strategy revision, no posture change. The live items this window are measurement/telemetry items routed to TEMPER (the exceedance restatement; the prior_5d_run series alignment) and the N=3 (a) deliverable, none of which touch the locked mechanism. Watching the down → contrarian-LONG leg as the nearer of the two routes: IWM sits at the top of the late-September floor zone (~$275–278 floor / ~$291–294 ceiling per the 10-08/10-09 plans); a decisive break of the floor is the realistic route to the first live flag of the quarter, and any flag this month holds across CPI (10-14) by construction.

Open TEMPER Items (Carried Forward)

  • Exceedance-line restatement (advanced 10-02, carried; provisional): the line is computed in both raw and non-overlapping forms, offset-sensitivity disclosed. The 5.00% / 2.50% trigger thresholds are provisional pending a stationary block-bootstrap / effective-sample restatement at both horizons; that restatement is the standing October Desk Review item. Filed through the next monthly Desk Review; nothing executed unilaterally.
  • prior_5d_run telemetry-timestamp alignment (from House Mneme's 10-02 critique — investigating, still open): the full near-miss series must be restated under one convention (row-close vs. prior-close) before "structurally absent" is presented as confirmed. The reading affects which session is "closest" by 2–3pp; the verdict above is written to survive either alignment. No unilateral script change.
  • Gate-level "regime, not calibration" strength (from House Echo's 10-02 critique — acted): "doing exactly its job" is withdrawn; absence of grazes cannot by itself separate an unsuitable tape from a percentile that no longer maps to current dispersion. Exceedance line restated non-overlapping; trigger provisional. No recalibration request rests on the raw form.
  • deliverable_run_magnitude_recalibration_2026-10-02.{py,json} (N=3 escalation, 10-02 — proposed, pending TEMPER cadence-ratification): must byte-identically reproduce the cleared baseline, resolve telemetry alignment and overlap dependence, then test candidates independently. Not built by me; no live gate touched.
  • Overnight-vs-intraday decomposition (from House Vesper's 09-25 critique — ACTED 10-02, closed): independent replay of all 68 cleared v2 trades confirms close-to-open carries ~74–76% of gross P&L and the long leg's overnight share ~95–96%; the "not simply long beta" framing is corrected to "close-to-open harvest," the gap count 4→5, and the persistence rule to the true 5-gap / 6-session exposure. Filed into the strategy doc and charter; no locked-mechanism change.
  • Charter-status mislabel (from both peer-review charter checks — fixed 10-02): ## Regime Charter reads Status: DRAFT — not ratified; all consistency verdicts are against unratified text. No action beyond the label.
  • SLACK forecast-pipeline gap (from 2026-07-24 / 2026-08-07): remains resolved. This window filed 5/5 desk plans, 5/5 member plans and 5/5 calibration rows, all Brier 0.0. Eighth consecutive clean window; no regression.
  • SLACK pre-market bound decorrelation (closed on the miss side 09-04): no recurrence. No session forecast a cross, and none occurred — bound-refusal discipline held 5/5, and the bounded-roll technique held inside ~0.5pp on all five sessions. No TEMPER conversation warranted, no action taken.
  • Operational data-hygiene note (carried from 09-11, still open): agents/slack/performance/trades.csv carries a duplicated 2026-08-07 row — 71 rows for 70 unique sessions. Harmless to the gate (the script reads state, not the log) but it corrupts row-count bookkeeping. Left untouched for cleanup; not counted as a session in this reflection.

Regime Watch

data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY, status: ok, as_of: 2026-09-22) — 13 sessions / 17 calendar days stale, flagged STALE, read as reported without authority: spy_day: flat · spy_open_to_close_pct: −0.08 · spy_vs_sma50: above 50d · spy_drawdown_bucket: <2% (spy_drawdown_pct −0.58) · vix_regime: LOW (<18) (vix 14.21). The file contains nothing from 09-23 → 10-09 — the longest gap it has carried. Its VIX (14.21) versus this window's live closes (14.84–16.30) is a modest gap, and every live print sits in the LOW (<18) bucket, so the regime label survives the lag — but a 13-session-old file carries no authority today and I did not let it carry the read.

Charter consistency — verdict vs. a DRAFT, and that is the whole caveat. desks/house-slack/CLAUDE.md's ## Regime Charter reads Status: DRAFT — not ratified, so this is a self-check against unratified text, not a ratified rule. Of its indicators, spy_vs_sma50 = above 50d and spy_drawdown_bucket = <2% are the live state the draft describes (with the honest asymmetry the draft records: above-50d is the inferential bucket, N=42, and it is the one I sit in). vix_regime = LOW is the bucket in which my gate is silent by design — a step up the ladder (MID ≥18) is what the draft says I want, not a threat, and this window's wobble to 16.30 began no persistence clock (5 consecutive sessions in MID is the trigger; it never got there). The indicators genuinely moving are my own: (1) the corrected rolling-exceedance line (non-overlap dev 12.376%; trailing-60 0/12; trailing-250 2/50, offset-sensitive, provisional thresholds), and (2) the prior_5d_run telemetry-alignment item, which is a measurement-layer mover, not a market-state one.

Today's posture — stand flat, change nothing — is consistent with the draft charter. Persistence rule check (5 consecutive sessions in the new state): satisfied many times over — the low-exceedance state has held the whole live run, and the VIX-LOW state likewise. So this belongs in a proposal through the Desk Review shape (next monthly review), not in a unilateral move. Watch and report only: I change no gate, no sizing, no posture, no script on a regime signal.

Learnings

  • [ ] Nothing new today
  • [x] Flag for learnings.md: Monitoring observations for TEMPER's audit log — record items, no gate-level edge finding, one carrying a stated escalation shape. 1. The run-magnitude gate has now bound for 70 consecutive logged sessions, and the near-miss data remains regime-shaped (on the level), not calibration-shaped: this window's gating readings (+1.15% → +0.74% → −0.05% → −0.51% → −0.51%) fully unwound to a 1.66pp band, the nearest reading 3.82pp short — farther from the band than last window's closest (−2.79%, 2.18pp); the all-time closest is still 09-16's isolated 1.76pp brush; no graze cluster in 70 sessions. 2. The calibration-shaped concern is the gate's validity and my own monitoring instrument, and it cleared N=3 this window (09-23, 09-25, 10-02): sized (a) recalibration deliverable — agents/slack/deliverable_run_magnitude_recalibration_2026-10-02.{py,json} — pending TEMPER cadence-ratification; the diagnostic must byte-identically reproduce the cleared baseline and resolve overlap dependence and telemetry alignment before any candidate is tested. No live gate, sizing, or posture touched. 3. House Echo's 10-02 critique was acted: the exceedance line is restated on non-overlapping windows (dev 12.376% 25/202; trailing-60 0/12; trailing-250 2/50 = 4.00%, offset-sensitive 2.00%→6.00%), the "doing exactly its job" gate-level language is withdrawn, and the 5.00% / 2.50% trigger thresholds are provisional pending a block-bootstrap restatement (standing October Desk Review item). 4. House Mneme's 10-02 critique is investigating, still open: the prior_5d_run timestamp convention (row-close vs. prior-close) is unresolved; a one-session shift moves a 5-day return 2–3pp, so the full 70-session series must be restated under one convention before "structurally absent" is confirmed. 5. Flat streak now 70 unique logged sessions (~4.1× the ~17-session expected inter-signal gap); SPRT correctly at n=0, LLR +0.000, and structurally cannot flag at n=0 — the (corrected, provisional) exceedance test is the live falsifier alongside it. 6. Operational note (unchanged): trades.csv carries a duplicated 2026-08-07 row (71 rows / 70 unique sessions); harmless to the gate, flagged for cleanup.
  • [ ] Flag for strategy review: none — a gate a 70-session range-bound regime never reaches is not mispositioned; loosening ±4.97% to catch a 1.15% reading would be overfitting to the window. The mechanism is behaving exactly as the research specified. The exceedance/telemetry items are measurement-layer corrections routed to TEMPER, not mechanism defects; any change to the gate, hold, or long-leg character would be TEMPER's via the Bench, never mine.

Desk Summary for Orchestrator

House Slack was flat for all five sessions since the 10-02 reflection (10-05 → 10-09): 5/5 no_trade:no_signal, blocked=run_magnitude, ledger clean, SPRT CONTINUE (n=0, LLR +0.000, both boundaries untouched). The window carried no Tier-1 skip; its nearest event was FOMC Minutes (10-07) — none of it touched the book, because no flag settled. The gating readings ran +1.15% → +0.74% → −0.05% → −0.51% → −0.51%: the window fully unwound to a 1.66pp band, the nearest reading 3.82pp short — farther from ±4.97% than last window's closest (−2.79%, 2.18pp). Binding-gate verdict: REGIME on the gate's level (70 consecutive bindings on one gate are wide misses, not grazes; no cluster in either graze band in 70 sessions), CALIBRATION-SHAPED on the gate's validity and my own monitoring instrument — and this window the pre-registered N=3 pattern (09-23, 09-25, 10-02) cleared and was sized (a) recalibration deliverable (agents/slack/deliverable_run_magnitude_recalibration_2026-10-02.{py,json}, pending TEMPER cadence-ratification), with House Echo's critique acted (exceedance restated non-overlapping; "doing exactly its job" withdrawn; thresholds provisional) and House Mneme's telemetry-timestamp critique investigating (full series to be restated under one prior_5d_run convention). The ## Regime Charter is DRAFT. Forecast layer 5/5 clean (Brier 0.0, verified in plan-calibration.csv). Flat streak now 70 unique logged sessions (~4.1× the ~17-session expected gap). Watching the down → contrarian-LONG leg into any break of the ~$275–278 IWM floor; any flag this month holds across CPI (10-14) by construction.
