Desk Plan — House Echo — 2026-10-09

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-10-09-pm.md PM: ECHO Last desk plan: desks/house-echo/plans/2026-10-08-plan.md

Regime Watch

Read data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY); report only.

  • Read: status: ok, as_of: 2026-09-22 — STALE by thirteen sessions (it lags 09-23, 09-24, 09-25, 09-28, 09-29, 09-30, 10-01, 10-02, 10-05, 10-06, 10-07, 10-08 and today). Snapshot: spy_day flat / spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08% / spy_vs_sma50 above 50d / spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (−0.58%) / vix_regime LOW (<18), vix 14.21.
  • Staleness handling: the feed is thirteen sessions stale, so I do not treat 14.21 as current and I do not call the regime state clean. Bucket from the file, level from the briefing: live ^VIX is 15.30 (prior close 15.41) — same LOW (<18) bucket, ~2.7 points under the LOW/MID boundary at 18. SPY prior close 773.88 is above its 20-day mean (SMA20 767.26); QQQ 747.50 above SMA20 735.68. For the persistence test only, the stale file is recorded as unavailable — an unobserved regime state is not a benign one (the discipline this desk filed at the 2026-10-02 peer review).
  • Charter indicators moving: none of the three shared tags is in a stressed state on the file (spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, spy_drawdown_bucket <2%, vix_regime LOW). But the file lags thirteen sessions, so this is not a clean read. I record "no confirmed trigger; persistence INDETERMINATE pending a dated refresh of 09-23 onward" — not "0 of 5."
  • Consistency with the desk's ## Regime Charter: the charter is DRAFT — not ratified; held to it as drafted. The draft's claim is that this desk does not need the market to go up: ECHO fades the day's direction, SURGE rides it, both intraday and direction-agnostic. Today is not a hard skip — both engines evaluate — and neither stack carries a standing directional bias, so the plan needs no rally. Consistent with the draft on substance; not scored as charter-compliant (not ratified).
  • Persistence rule: not armed on any confirmed basis. The stale feed cannot arm or clear a 5-session stressed stretch, and neither stack is at the 10-consecutive-no-fire clause — both last fired on 2026-10-06 (ECHO XBI long −$122.92; SURGE SPY long +$54.00), so both counters sit at zero. No proposal, no posture change, watch only. I do not move a gate on regime evidence alone.

Regime watch: data-infra/regime/current.json — as_of 2026-09-22, STALE by thirteen sessions → persistence state INDETERMINATE; no shared tag stressed in the file, live VIX 15.30 LOW; charter-consistent on substance; no posture change.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM. No Tier-1 release. Scheduled macro: Delta Air Lines (DAL) Q3 2026 results before the open (EPS consensus ~$1.71 / revenue ~$18.3B; a report of ~$1.71 adj EPS vs ~$1.53 expected but the figures are unverified across search snippets — treat as direction-unconfirmed); University of Michigan preliminary consumer sentiment, 10:00 AM ET (consensus 48.0 vs prior 47.8) and 5-yr inflation expectations (3.4% vs 3.5%); Baker Hughes oil rig count, 1:00 PM ET (LOW). Next Tier-1: September CPI, Wed 2026-10-14, 8:30 AM ET (in 5 days).
  • Session character expected: positive-bias / news-sensitive — an up-bias start, not a clean directional pre-call. Overnight: oil retreated as President Trump said the U.S. would not attack Iran before the November elections and cited productive talks; tech is recovering after the prior session's AI-led weakness; U.S. futures point higher (snapshots SPY +0.44%, QQQ +0.90%). But long-dated yields sit near multi-decade highs and the dollar is firm, and the briefing's discipline is: treat any continuation as conditional and let the 10:00 Michigan release reset the rates/demand read. Prior session was weak, tech-led: SPY closed 773.88 (~−0.42%) and QQQ 747.50 (~−1.35%).
  • VIX regime: 15.30 — LOW (<18) (prior close 15.41), the weakest cohort for both members (ECHO needs a completed high-participation program to have something to exhaust; SURGE's backtest PF is 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30). LOW is background, not a gate input — ECHO's hard skip is a first-half-hour |return| proxy (1.8%, standing in for VIX > 30), SURGE has no VIX skip.
  • Key levels: SPY prior close 773.88 (prior range 770.48–777.07; SMA20 767.26 — above; ATR14 6.77). QQQ prior close 747.50 (prior range 743.28–757.18 (wide — ≈1.0× ATR14, the tech-weakness session); SMA20 735.68 — above; ATR14 9.65). An open beyond ≈ ±0.5% (SPY ≈ 3.9 pts, QQQ ≈ 3.7 pts) would be a genuine gap; the IEX pre-market shows no confirmed liquid print (confirm the gap at the open).
  • Macro backdrop: the oil-risk premium is unwinding on Iran de-escalation while record-high long-end yields and a firm dollar cap the relief — a positive-bias tape whose persistence depends on whether the de-escalation holds and on the 10:00 Michigan inflation-expectations print.
  • Scanner candidate read (ECHO's dynamic universe): ECHO candidates are SPY (broad futures strength / oil-risk repricing; mild UP bias; intrinsic, but below the +0.5% threshold in available snapshots), QQQ (tech rebound; UP bias, but flagged by the Scanner as tape context, not standalone catalyst), USO/crude (DOWN bias early, high reversal risk — headline-sensitive, not a stable program), XLE (mixed / modest UP in the premarket snapshot while crude eased — a cross-asset divergence), and DAL (earnings; direction unconfirmed). Firm-wide status GO.

ECHO — dynamic universe (SPY/XLE/XBI baseline), close-leg exhaustion fade at 15:30 ET

Possible, but low — an up-bias de-escalation tape is the raw material for a program I fade, but vol_ratio is the chronic binder on a LOW-VIX tape, my most-catalysed fresh candidates are stood down or non-qualifying by my own rules, and 10-06 showed a wide gate-clear can still fail. p_trade 0.17, direction none, conviction low.

My mechanism needs a gate-confirmed directional program that ran all day and is substantially complete by 15:20, which I fade contra at 15:30. No hard skip applies — is_hard_skip_day() skips {FOMC, CPI, NFP}, none is live; prior VIX close 15.41 < 30; no mega-cap earnings after prior close (DAL reports before the open and is not a baseline mega-cap); XBI not ≤ −5%. So the engine will evaluate the baseline SPY/XLE/XBI set and the fresh candidates (SPY, QQQ, XLE, USO, DAL).

Why not zero, and why not more. Four forces, two up and two down:

  1. (+) The tape is genuinely directional, and today's bias is up. Unlike a no-catalyst drift, today has a coherent overnight driver — oil retreating on Iran de-escalation, tech rebounding, futures higher (SPY +0.44% / QQQ +0.90%) — the raw material for an all-day program I fade. An up-bias day means I fade short into the close.
  2. (−) The chronic binder is Gate 1, vol_ratio ≥ 1.2, and on LOW-VIX tapes it blocks wide (recent SPY/XLE/XBI prints 0.54–1.71, mostly sub-floor; 10-08 saw SPY 0.659, and XLE/USO are the only fresh names with any volume impulse). A sub-±0.25% morning is the other likely denial, and the briefing warns the continuation is conditional and can reset at the 10:00 Michigan print — a morning that fades leaves no program to exhaust.
  3. (−) My two most-catalysed fresh candidates are self-excluded. DAL is a single-stock post-earnings candidate — my own learnings (2026-07-24, INTC) record that single-stock earnings gap-ups reverse within the first 90 minutes, not through the full 6-hour program cycle → non-qualifying unless the intraday structure independently supports a close-window fade. XLE is headed the other way from yesterday: with oil retreating on de-escalation, the energy driver is weakening and the sector read is a cross-asset divergence (XLE +1.8% premarket snapshot vs. crude lower) — two-sided and not a clean program leg. The driver-sector stand-down I applied yesterday was for a strengthening driver; today's is ambiguous, so I neither quarantine XLE outright nor lean on it — it is simply not a clean eligible leg.
  4. (−) The 10-06 lesson stands. A fully gate-confirmed program (XBI vol_ratio 1.7082, exhaustion_score 2.2803) was stopped on its own entry bar — the exhaustion premise did not hold, and xbi_leg is now n=4, WR 0.0%. A clear is not a reliable win; I carry that into today's conviction.

I forecast low, not zero: the tape is genuinely directional and my mechanism exists to fade a completed news-driven program — but the eligible set is effectively SPY ± USO with no clean catalyst leg, and the chronic gate disagrees.

direction none — I fade the day's direction, and my eligible set is directionally split (an up-bias broad tape → short fade; USO's oil-retreat down-leg → long fade), with the pre-market levels themselves below the +0.5% gap threshold. No honest single lean on the first trade; hit-rate is skipped for none. (The contra-to-SPY lean, if SPY is the leg that fires, would be short.)

Sizing vs. event risk: standard applies if it fires — 0.75% per instrument, 2.0% session budget ($500) with proportional scaling, stop 1.5× ATR(14, 5-min), hard flat 15:58 ET. No adjustment for MEDIUM event risk: the DAL print, Michigan release and rig count are not hard skips, and the mechanism's own gates (vol_ratio, exhaustion_score) are the filter. No gate logic modified.

Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 773.88 / range 770.48–777.07 / SMA20 767.26 (above) / ATR14 6.77. XLE — cross-asset divergence (crude lower, XLE snapshot +1.8%); not a clean leg either way. XBI — no confirmed FDA/PDUFA catalyst (the atezolizumab indication was resolved 10-08 — do not infer a fresh catalyst); not a candidate; xbi_leg is n=4, WR 0.0% (trigger 15+).

Invalidation: no trade if the morning signal is sub-±0.25% or vol_ratio stays sub-1.2 through 15:20. Most likely logged reason: no_qualifying_instruments (vol_ratio or morning_signal). No overnight exposure — 15:58 ET flat.

What I'm watching (specific, not filler):

  1. Does the de-escalation bid produce a one-way all-day program (up for SPY) that holds to 15:20 with vol_ratio ≥ 1.2 and exhaustion_score ≥ 0.80 — or does the ~+0.44% pre-market bid fade at the 10:00 Michigan print and leave no program to exhaust?
  2. SPY's morning signal vs. the ±0.25% floor. SPY has been the most recent sub-floor name (10-08 morning signal −0.24%); the prior session closed weak and could open two-sided despite the higher futures — a sub-floor open is a live possibility, the modal denial of the recent stretch.
  3. XLE's vol_ratio and direction, given the divergence. A wobbling open (XLE up, crude down) is an observation only; the 09-29 XLE counterexample remains UNVERIFIED pending a clean rerun of the locked evaluator (2026-10-02 peer-review disposition). No gate touched.

SURGE — SPY/QQQ, VWAP pullback resumption (10:00–12:00 ET)

Possible, but low — a higher, tech-recovering open is the best setup impulse in a week, but the bid is mild, a 10:00 Michigan print lands on my establishment edge, and LOW VIX is my weakest cohort. p_trade 0.20, direction long, conviction low.

I need a clean three-phase structure inside 10:00–12:00: a first-hour establishment (|signal_return| ≥ 0.30%), a measured pullback to session VWAP on contracting volume, and a resumption confirmation candle with ADX ≥ 22 at the resumption bar. No event-day skip applies — FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE/QQQ-earnings are all clear (DAL is not a QQQ mega-cap constituent; the 1:00 PM rig count sits after my window) — so the engine will evaluate SPY and QQQ.

Why low, and why slightly better than the recent stretch. My chronic binders are first_hour_signal and pullback_resumption, and both have denied me repeatedly: 09-29 SPY −0.09% / QQQ +0.18%; 10-01 SPY −0.28% / QQQ −0.14%; 10-05 SPY +0.17% / QQQ +0.23%; 10-08 SPY −0.23% — five sub-floor first hours around the single 10-06 clear. Today is genuinely more directional than that stretch: futures higher (SPY +0.44%, QQQ +0.90%) on a real overnight driver (oil de-escalation, tech rebounding), and the up-bias is the raw material for a long establishment. But: the bid is mild (a +0.44% gap is not a +0.68% first-hour impulse), a 10:00 AM Michigan sentiment/inflation-expectations print lands exactly on my establishment/pullback edge and can reset rates mid-structure, the prior session was weak (QQQ −1.35%) so the tape is choppy, and VIX 15.30 LOW is my weakest cohort (backtest PF 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30). The 10-06 counter-case cuts both ways: a decisive first hour did establish and trade (+$54.00) — a directional open can convert — but 09-28 showed structure-completion is not edge.

direction long — I trade with the trend, and the pre-market bias is up (futures higher, tech recovering, oil lower as a risk-positive). If a first-hour establishment forms it is more likely long, so this is an honest lean (unlike the prior two sessions, where the bias was two-sided). (Standing item: direction is not an input to SURGE's signal — it resolves at evaluation time — so the frontmatter direction-hit field remains a scoring artifact for this stack; I record long as my genuine read.)

Sizing vs. event risk: standard applies if it fires — $187.50 (0.75%), single position, co-fire limiter (stronger |signal_return| between SPY/QQQ wins), hard flat 14:00 ET. No VIX skip added — the session-character read is a forecast, not a parameter.

Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 773.88 (above SMA20 767.26) / ATR14 6.77; QQQ 747.50 (above SMA20 735.68) / ATR14 9.65 — note QQQ's prior range (743.28–757.18) was ≈1.0× ATR after the tech-led selloff, so the recovery leg may be wider than usual.

Invalidation: no trade if the first-hour signal is sub-±0.30% (the modal denial of the recent stretch) or a trend-qualified leg never retraces to VWAP and resumes inside the window. Most likely logged reason: no_signal (first_hour_signal). No overnight exposure — 14:00 ET flat.

What I'm watching (specific):

  1. Does a first-hour establishment ≥ ±0.30% form on the higher, tech-recovering open, then a VWAP pullback on contracting volume and a resumption with ADX ≥ 22 — or does the 10:00 Michigan print land on the establishment/pullback edge and break the structure, or does the mild bid fade into a two-sided tape?
  2. ADX at any resumption bar — the 22.0 floor is a live graze candidate (09-18: 21.1); the 10-06 winner printed 45.52 (strong-trend).
  3. The first_hour_signal 0.27–0.30% band — already-escalated (2026-09 Desk Review Pattern #5, N=5; the 09-05 diagnostic found floor 0.0025 unlocks zero new trades because the downstream pullback/resumption price-path requirement independently blocks those days). No re-open.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-10-09 04:32 PT
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes
  • Firm-wide status: GO — no hard skip today. The DAL earnings (before open), Michigan sentiment/inflation expectations (10:00 AM ET) and Baker Hughes rig count (1:00 PM ET) are today's scheduled catalyst windows, not firm-wide hard skips. Both engines evaluate.
  • Desk net forecast: ECHO p_trade 0.17 / none / low, SURGE p_trade 0.20 / long / low. Not averaged — each is that stack's own call off one shared market read: ECHO's is the up-bias de-escalation tape that could run a program to fade, tempered by the vol_ratio binder on a LOW-VIX tape, its own DAL single-stock non-qualification, and XLE's cross-asset divergence; SURGE's is the mildly-higher, tech-recovering open that could establish a long first-hour trend, capped by the mild bid, the 10:00 Michigan print on its establishment edge, and its weakest (LOW-VIX) cohort.
  • Carry: neither stack holds overnight risk — ECHO flat 15:58 ET, SURGE flat 14:00 ET.
  • Carried TEMPER items (unchanged, untouched — no gate logic modified): ECHO plan/engine enforcement gap (unvalidated hypothesis; the 10-06 XBI fill is its first live confirming instance since 08-19/08-20); ECHO xbi_leg (n=4, WR 0.0%, PF 0.0, trigger 15+); ECHO ≥1.5-tier XBI fades (0-for-2 — 09-23 −$134.52, 10-06 −$122.92 instant); ECHO vol_ratio 1.08–1.20 region (09-05 diagnostic: not a calibration fix; 09-29 XLE unverified observation pending a clean rerun); ECHO exhaustion_score live-median watch (n=14, far from 40); SURGE ADX 22.0 floor / re-tune watch; SURGE event-day skip diagnostic (resolved MIXED 2026-08-01; NFP cohort bimodal); SURGE 2023 PF 0.95 watch; SURGE short-side net negative (live 8 shorts 4W/4L −$127.35 vs 3 longs 2W/1L +$522.28; sample far below any trigger).
  • Peer-review commitments applied as written: deterministic event-skip rows are not credited as discretionary forecast skill (Reversal → House Echo, 10-02, acted) — today has no skip rows, so both calls are discretionary; the 09-29 XLE counterexample is treated as unverified pending rerun (House Delta → House Echo, 10-02, investigating).
  • Regime: consistent with the draft charter on substance; Regime watch line above; the feed is stale by thirteen sessions, so the persistence test is recorded INDETERMINATE (no confirmed trigger, no posture change). current.json bucket from the file, VIX level (15.30) from the briefing.

House Echo Desk Reflection — 2026-10-09 (Friday)

Cadence rule header: Weekly/Friday floor (WS5). Today is the Friday floor — the last reflection was 2026-10-06 (a same-day-on-trade trigger), so this reflection runs on the weekly cadence as scheduled. Period covered: 2026-10-07 → 2026-10-09 (three sessions). Desk trade_count 0, desk net P&L $0.00, desk cumulative −$18.44 (unchanged from 10-06).

What Happened

Three sessions, no fills for either member — the desk's first full quiet week since the 10-06 co-trade, and the mirror image of it. After the 10-06 session in which both stacks fired on low forecasts and one won while one lost, this window produced the opposite shape: both members forecast low and both were right to stay out, all three sessions. The tape did the work for us:

  • 10-07 — ranging / mildly lower, contained below ATR (SPY 777.15, −0.25%; QQQ 757.74, −0.25%; VIX 15.08, LOW). Yield pressure and the hawkish FOMC Minutes kept a lid on a sub-ATR session.
  • 10-08 — tech-led two-tier downside (SPY 773.88, −0.42%; QQQ 747.50, −1.35% on the OpenAI-revenue / AI-repricing shock; VIX 15.41, LOW; QQQ true range 1.50× ATR). Broad bar contained, tech leg wide.
  • 10-09 — ranging (SPY 778.51, +0.60%; QQQ 751.26, +0.50%; VIX 14.84, LOW, the low of the stretch); an oil-de-escalation relief bid that recovered early weakness and finished near the highs with a flat final hour.

Both stacks were denied cleanly, and — the load-bearing reading — the denials were almost entirely wide, not grazes. This is the opposite of the "repeatedly close misses against one threshold" pattern the desk escalates. ECHO's window: vol_ratio bound wide three times (SPY 0.659 on 10-07, SPY 0.528 and XLE 0.796 on 10-09 — none anywhere near the escalated 1.08–1.20 near-miss band, and all far below the 1.2 floor); morning_signal bound three times (XLE +0.14% and XBI −0.13% on 10-07, SPY −0.24% on 10-08); adx bound twice (XLE 17.0 on 10-08, XBI 18.0 on 10-09); one vwap_persistence (XBI on 10-08). SURGE's window: first_hour_signal bound wide on 10-08 and 10-09 (SPY −0.23% / 10-09 SPY +0.17%, QQQ +0.16% — the last two are roughly half the ±0.30% floor), plus one vwap_side (QQQ 10-08); and — the window's single genuinely interesting structural datum — 10-07 bound on pullback_resumption with BOTH legs trend-qualified (SPY first-hour −0.61%, ADX(1000m) 46.6; QQQ −0.88%, ADX 48.7) but no VWAP-touch pullback resumed inside the 10:00–12:00 window.

The one near-miss in the whole window is ECHO's 10-08 SPY morning_signal −0.24% vs the ±0.25% floor — a 0.01% miss (4% of the floor width). It is a real near-miss and I record it as such, but it is N=1, it is on a different gate than the desk's escalated vol_ratio item, and it converted to nothing (SPY would have been a middle-of-the-pack candidate at best on a session the plan already called low-bias and two-sided). It does not constitute a repeated-miss pattern and I am not treating it as one.

Forecast layer: the low forecasts were correct and well-calibrated, and the window Brier re-converged. ECHO's three Briers were 0.0144 / 0.0256 / 0.0289 (window mean 0.023); SURGE's were 0.01 / 0.0196 / 0.04 (window mean 0.023). Both stacks priced low (0.12–0.17 ECHO; 0.10–0.20 SURGE) and both stayed out, so the window is the clean calibration counterweight to the 10-06 co-trade (Briers 0.7396 / 0.7744). The desk's forecast discipline — name the chronic binder, price low, let the engine decide — held here, which is exactly what makes the next fill the informative event.

Desk net P&L this period: $0.00. Desk cumulative: −$18.44 (unchanged from the 10-06 reflection — no fills, so no SPRT movement for either stack). Neither SPRT boundary is in play: ECHO sits +3.383 from CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST and −2.506 from DEGRADED (n=14); SURGE +1.101 from CONSISTENT and −4.788 from DEGRADED (n=11). xbi_leg is unchanged at n=4, WR 0.0%, PF 0.0 — XBI did not fire this window (it was cleanly blocked on vwap_persistence 10-08 and adx 18.0 on 10-09), so the sub-book neither advances nor improves.

Per-Member Binding Gate Analysis

ECHO — binding gates were vol_ratio (3×, all wide) and morning_signal (3×), with one genuine 0.01% near-miss on 10-08 SPY — REGIME

All three sessions were no_qualifying_instruments, and the blocks divide across the desk's two chronic gates plus adx/vwap_persistence:

  • vol_ratio — 3 blocks, all WIDE. SPY 0.659 (10-07), SPY 0.528 and XLE 0.796 (10-09). These sit far below the 1.2 floor and far below the 1.08–1.20 near-miss band the 2026-09 Desk Review flagged on XLE. This window is the clean-regime side of that item, not an advance of it: there is no 1.08–1.20 graze in the window at all.
  • morning_signal — 3 blocks. XLE +0.14% and XBI −0.13% (10-07, both wide sub-±0.25%, structurally absent), and SPY −0.24% (10-08) — the desk's single near-miss, 0.01% under the floor. Recording it honestly: a 0.01% miss is a live graze, but it is N=1, on a gate that is not the desk's escalated item, on a session the plan itself called low-bias and two-sided, and it converted to no trade.
  • adx — 2 blocks (XLE 17.0, XBI 18.0): both sub-20 with strong morning signals (+2.23%, +2.10%) — i.e. the signal was there but no confirmed directional program (no ADX ≥ 20) existed to exhaust. vwap_persistence — 1 block (XBI 10-08).
  • XBI, the carried sub-book concern, stayed quietly out. After the 10-06 instant-stop, XBI was cleanly denied on vwap_persistence (10-08) and adx 18.0 (10-09). xbi_leg remains n=4, WR 0.0%, PF 0.0, unchanged — the pre-registered 15-trade exclusion trigger is nowhere near.

Regime or calibration? REGIME. Four of the window's five distinct blocks are wide structural absences, and the fifth (SPY morning_signal −0.24%) is a single 0.01% near-miss, not a repeated close-miss against one threshold. The setups simply were not there: a LOW-VIX tape with sub-floor volume (vol_ratio 0.53–0.80) and sub-±0.25% first-half-hours. No fix needed, wait — no gate touched, no floor moved, no new deliverable.

SURGE — binding gates were first_hour_signal (3× wide) and, on 10-07, pullback_resumption with both legs trend-qualified — REGIME, and a clean re-confirmation of the closed 09-05 diagnostic

All three sessions were no_signal:

  • 10-07 — the window's structural datum. Both legs trend-qualified (SPY first-hour −0.61%, ADX 46.6; QQQ −0.88%, ADX 48.7) and no VWAP-touch pullback resumed inside the window. This is a down-bias session (SPY −0.25% close) where the establishment was clean and strong, yet the downstream three-phase structure simply did not complete. This is exactly the shape the 09-05 first-hour-floor diagnostic described — "the downstream pullback/resumption price-path requirement independently blocks these days" — now illustrated live on a session whose first hour cleared wide (not a near-miss). It confirms the closed diagnostic; it does not re-open it.
  • 10-08 / 10-09 — first_hour_signal, wide. SPY −0.23% (10-08) and SPY +0.17% / QQQ +0.16% (10-09) — the last two roughly half the ±0.30% floor. Plus one vwap_side (QQQ 10-08: trend-qualified short but price on the wrong side of VWAP at the bar). None of these is in the escalated 0.27–0.30% band — the window contains zero grazes of the flagged band.

Regime or calibration? REGIME. The first-hour floor was cleared wide in the sessions that had a real first hour, and the deniers were wide sub-floor, not grazes. The one structurally meaningful session (10-07) had a clean establishment and was blocked downstream of the floor — evidence for the 09-05 diagnostic's verdict, not against it. No re-open, no gate touched. The pullback_resumption block is the same shape as the desk's carried session-character / catalyst-gap conversation (09-21 both legs, 09-22 QQQ, 09-28 fired-and-lost, 10-07 both legs) — recurrent character of the mechanism's denials, carried unchanged, no action.

Narrative finding. This window is the clean counterweight to 10-06, and its desk-level value is symmetry: on 10-06 both members fired on low forecasts and the desk's value-add was discriminating which override was right; this window both members stayed out on low forecasts and the desk's value-add is confirming that staying out was right for the structural reason the plans named — wide vol_ratio (ECHO) and a trend-qualified establishment with no downstream structure (SURGE). No new mechanism finding, no escalation. The one thing worth keeping visible: ECHO's 10-08 SPY morning_signal −0.24% is the first graze of that gate in the window — N=1, not a pattern, but it is the datum a second occurrence would build on. Record, watch, no action.

Regime Watch

Regime watch: data-infra/regime/current.json — status: ok, as_of: 2026-09-22, i.e. stale by thirteen sessions (it lags 09-23, 09-24, 09-25, 09-28, 09-29, 09-30, 10-01, 10-02, 10-05, 10-06, 10-07, 10-08 and today). Snapshot: spy_day flat, spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08%, spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (spy_drawdown_pct −0.58%), vix_regime LOW (<18), vix 14.21. Live levels from the briefings, not the stale file: VIX 14.84 (10-09 close, −0.57 vs 15.41) — LOW, the low of the stretch and ~3.2 points under the LOW/MID boundary at 18; SPY 778.51 above SMA20 767.98; QQQ 751.26 above SMA20 737.50. None of the three shared tags is in a stressed state on the file.

Against the desk's ## Regime Charter — still DRAFT, not ratified, and I am held to it as drafted — the window is charter-consistent on substance: neither stack needs the market to go up (ECHO fades the day's direction, SURGE rides it), and both sat out a contained tape with no directional program to trade or fade. The charter's own caveat is the honest note here: both stacks' weakest cohort is the LOW-VIX tape this window was entirely made of, and the fact that they correctly stayed out of it is consistent with the charter, not evidence the edge exists in it. Persistence rule: not armed. Both stacks last fired 2026-10-06, so the 10-consecutive-no-fire clause is at 3 sessions each (10-07/10-08/10-09) — well short — and there is no 5-session stretch in a stressed shared tag. Because the feed is thirteen sessions stale I record "no confirmed trigger; persistence INDETERMINATE pending a dated refresh of 09-23 onward" — not a clean "0 of 5," and an unobserved regime state is not a benign one (the discipline this desk filed at the 2026-10-02 peer review). No proposal, no posture change, watch only.

Open TEMPER Items (Carried Forward)

  • ECHO — plan/engine enforcement gap: unchanged, no new instance this window (no fills). Carried at "hypothesis with one live confirming instance" (the 10-06 XBI instant-stop).
  • ECHO — xbi_leg sub-book: n=4, WR 0.0%, PF 0.0 (unchanged; exclusion review triggers at 15+). The ≥1.5-tier XBI tier watch is carried unchanged — XBI did not fire.
  • ECHO — vol_ratio floor (1.2) / the 09-29 XLE counterexample: NOT advanced. The window produced zero 1.08–1.20 grazes (all vol_ratio blocks were wide, 0.53–0.80). The recommended rerun of the 09-05 deliverable through the current date remains pending and unperformed. No gate touched.
  • ECHO — morning_signal gate: NEW observation, N=1. The 10-08 SPY −0.24% print is the first graze of this gate logged in the recent window (0.01% under ±0.25%). Logged as an observation only, not an escalation — it is not the desk's escalated item and it is a single instance.
  • ECHO — exhaustion_score live-median watch: unchanged, far from the 40-trade point (n=14). No new sample this window.
  • SURGE — first-hour-signal floor (±0.30%): CLOSED, NOT RE-OPENED. The window re-confirms the 09-05 diagnostic's mechanism (10-07: clean establishment, downstream structure blocked). No graze of the 0.27–0.30% band.
  • SURGE — pullback_resumption / session-character-catalyst-gap conversation: re-illustrated on 10-07 (both legs trend-qualified, no VWAP-touch resumption). Same shape as 09-21/09-22/09-28; carried unchanged, no action.
  • SURGE — ADX 22.0 floor / ADX re-tune watch: no resumption bar this window (no fills). Watch unchanged.
  • SURGE — event-day skip diagnostic (resolved MIXED 2026-08-01; NFP cohort bimodal) and 2023 PF 0.95 watch: carried, no new data — no event-day skip fired in the window (all three sessions eligible).
  • SURGE — short-side question (charter item): no fills this window; live ledger unchanged (shorts 8 trades, 4W/4L, −$127.35; longs 3 trades, 2W/1L, +$522.28). N far below any review trigger — no action.
  • Operational: intelligence/runner-health-2026-10-09.md reads CLEAR — both echo and surge completed and wrote daily artifacts each session in the window. (10-07 /run-trades timed out at the 300s budget and starved TRACE per backtest-agent/learnings.md; neither House Echo member was starved — both wrote their 10-07 artifacts.)

Learnings Flags (desk-scoped)

Flag for learnings.md: house-echo / ECHO — over the 2026-10-07 → 2026-10-09 window (three sessions), all three were no_qualifying_instruments, and the window is the clean calibration counterweight to the 10-06 co-trade (window Briers 0.0144 / 0.0256 / 0.0289, mean 0.023). The blocks were almost entirely wide: vol_ratio 3× (SPY 0.659 10-07; SPY 0.528, XLE 0.796 10-09 — none in the escalated 1.08–1.20 near-miss band), morning_signal 3× (XLE +0.14%/XBI −0.13% 10-07; SPY −0.24% 10-08), adx 2× (XLE 17.0, XBI 18.0 — strong signals, no ADX≥20 program to exhaust), one vwap_persistence (XBI 10-08). The only near-miss is the 10-08 SPY morning_signal −0.24% vs ±0.25% (a 0.01% / 4%-of-floor-width miss) — N=1, on a gate that is NOT the desk's escalated vol_ratio item; a new observation to log, not an escalation. xbi_leg unchanged (n=4, WR 0.0%, PF 0.0 — cleanly blocked this window; the 15-trade trigger is nowhere near). The 09-29 XLE counterexample is not advanced (zero 1.08–1.20 grazes; the 09-05 deliverable rerun remains pending). Reading: REGIME — four of five distinct blocks are wide structural absences and the fifth is a single 0.01% miss; no gate touched, no floor moved, no new deliverable. Watch the morning_signal gate for a second graze.

Flag for learnings.md: house-echo / SURGE — over the 2026-10-07 → 2026-10-09 window (three sessions), all three were no_signal (window Briers 0.01 / 0.0196 / 0.04, mean 0.023). first_hour_signal bound wide on 10-08/10-09 (SPY −0.23%; SPY +0.17%, QQQ +0.16% — roughly half the ±0.30% floor; zero grazes of the escalated 0.27–0.30% band), plus one vwap_side (QQQ 10-08). The window's structural datum is 10-07: both legs trend-qualified with a clean, strong establishment (SPY first-hour −0.61%, ADX 46.6; QQQ −0.88%, ADX 48.7) and NO VWAP-touch pullback resumed inside 10:00–12:00 — a live re-confirmation of the 09-05 first-hour-floor diagnostic's verdict ("the downstream pullback/resumption price-path requirement independently blocks these days"), on a session whose first hour cleared wide. Reading: REGIME — the closed first-hour-floor question is NOT re-opened (floor cleared wide where a real first hour existed; deniers were wide sub-floor, not grazes); the pullback_resumption block is the mechanism's known denial character (09-21/09-22/09-28/10-07), carried unchanged; no gate touched, no action.

Desk Summary for Orchestrator

Weekly/Friday-floor reflection (WS5) for 2026-10-07 → 2026-10-09 — desk net $0.00, three sessions, zero fills, desk cumulative −$18.44 (unchanged). All three sessions no-trade for both members — the clean counterweight to the 10-06 co-trade. ECHO: three no_qualifying_instruments; binding gates vol_ratio (3×, all wide 0.53–0.80 — zero 1.08–1.20 grazes) and morning_signal (3×), with adx 2× (XLE 17.0, XBI 18.0 — strong signals, no confirmed program) and one vwap_persistence; the only near-miss is 10-08 SPY morning_signal −0.24% vs ±0.25% (0.01% — N=1, a new observation, not the escalated gate); window Briers 0.0144/0.0256/0.0289; xbi_leg unchanged (n=4, WR 0.0%); SPRT −0.438 (n=14) CONTINUE. SURGE: three no_signal; first_hour_signal bound wide 10-08/10-09, and 10-07 bound on pullback_resumption with both legs trend-qualified (SPY −0.61%/ADX 46.6, QQQ −0.88%/ADX 48.7) and no VWAP-touch resumption — a live re-confirmation of the closed 09-05 diagnostic; window Briers 0.01/0.0196/0.04; SPRT +1.843 (n=11) CONTINUE, +1.101 from CONSISTENT. Verdict: REGIME for both — wide structural absences, not repeated near-misses; no gate touched, no floor moved, no new deliverable; the closed first-hour-floor question stays closed; watch ECHO's morning_signal gate and carry the pullback_resumption/session-character conversation unchanged. Regime watch: current.json as_of 2026-09-22, stale by thirteen sessions → persistence INDETERMINATE; no shared tag stressed (SPY/QQQ above SMA20, drawdown <2%, VIX 14.84 LOW); charter-consistent on substance; no posture change; both no-fire counters at 3 sessions (both last fired 10-06). Two flags filed for learnings.md (one per member); runner health CLEAR all three sessions.
