Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-10-08-pm.md PM: ECHO Last desk plan: desks/house-echo/plans/2026-10-07-plan.md
Read data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY); report only.
status: ok, as_of: 2026-09-22 — STALE by twelve sessions (it lags 09-23, 09-24, 09-25, 09-28, 09-29, 09-30, 10-01, 10-02, 10-05, 10-06, 10-07 and today). Snapshot: spy_day flat / spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08% / spy_vs_sma50 above 50d / spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (−0.58%) / vix_regime LOW (<18), vix 14.21.^VIX is 15.96 (prior close 15.08) — same LOW (<18) bucket, ~2 points under the LOW/MID boundary at 18. SPY prior close 777.15 is above its 20-day mean (SMA20 766.46); QQQ 757.74 above SMA20 733.75. For the persistence test only, the stale file is recorded as unavailable — an unobserved regime state is not a benign one (the discipline this desk filed at the 2026-10-02 peer review).spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, spy_drawdown_bucket <2%, vix_regime LOW). But the file lags twelve sessions, so this is not a clean read. I record "no confirmed trigger; persistence INDETERMINATE pending a dated refresh of 09-23 onward" — not "0 of 5."## Regime Charter: the charter is DRAFT — not ratified; held to it as drafted. The draft's claim is that this desk does not need the market to go up: ECHO fades the day's direction, SURGE rides it, both intraday and direction-agnostic. Today is not a hard skip — both engines evaluate — and neither stack carries a directional bias, so the plan needs no rally. Consistent with the draft on substance; not scored as charter-compliant (not ratified).Regime watch: data-infra/regime/current.json — as_of 2026-09-22, STALE by twelve sessions → persistence state INDETERMINATE; no shared tag stressed in the file, live VIX 15.96 LOW; charter-consistent on substance; no posture change.
Possible, but low — today is a genuinely directional, catalyst-rich tape of exactly the kind I fade, but vol_ratio is the chronic binder on a LOW-VIX tape, two of my three candidates are stood down by my own rules, and 10-06 showed a wide gate-clear can still fail. p_trade 0.16, direction none, conviction low.
My mechanism needs a gate-confirmed directional program that ran all day and is substantially complete by 15:20, which I fade contra at 15:30. No hard skip applies — is_hard_skip_day() skips {FOMC, CPI, NFP}, none is live; prior VIX close 15.08 < 30; no mega-cap earnings after prior close (PEP is a reporter but not a mega-cap constituent of the baseline fade, and its report is before the open, not after the prior close); XBI not ≤ −5%. So the engine will evaluate the baseline SPY/XLE/XBI set and the fresh candidates (SPY, XLE, PEP).
Why not zero, and why not more. Four forces, two up and two down:
vol_ratio ≥ 1.2, and on LOW-VIX tapes it blocks wide (recent SPY/XLE/XBI prints 0.54–1.71 — mostly sub-floor). A sub-±0.25% morning is the other likely denial. And the briefing warns the initial risk-off gap can mean-revert at the 8:30 claims print — a gap that reverses in the first hour leaves no program to exhaust.vol_ratio 1.7082, exhaustion_score 2.2803) was stopped on its own entry bar — the exhaustion premise did not hold. A clear is not a reliable win; I carry that into today's sizing of conviction.I forecast low, not zero: the tape is genuinely directional and my mechanism exists to fade a completed news-driven program — but the eligible set is effectively SPY alone and the chronic gate disagrees.
direction none — I fade the day's direction, and my candidate set is directionally split (SPY DOWN → long fade; XLE/PEP UP → short fade) with the pre-market level itself called low-confidence in the briefing. No honest single lean on the first trade; hit-rate skipped for none. (The contra-to-SPY lean, if SPY is the leg that fires, would be long.)
Sizing vs. event risk: standard applies if it fires — 0.75% per instrument, 2.0% session budget ($500) with proportional scaling, stop 1.5× ATR(14, 5-min), hard flat 15:58 ET. No adjustment for MEDIUM event risk: the claims/auction/waller items are not hard skips, and the mechanism's own gates (vol_ratio, exhaustion_score) are the filter. No gate logic modified.
Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 777.15 / range 773.62–777.90 / SMA20 766.46 (above) / ATR14 6.62. XLE — firmer oil; my driver-sector rule stands the fade down regardless of a gate clear. XBI — no confirmed catalyst, not a candidate; the first-half-hour ≤ −5% hard skip stands if it ever evaluates; xbi_leg is n=4, WR 0.0% (trigger 15+).
Invalidation: no trade if the morning signal is sub-±0.25% or vol_ratio stays sub-1.2 through 15:20. Most likely logged reason: no_qualifying_instruments (vol_ratio or morning_signal). No overnight exposure — 15:58 ET flat.
What I'm watching (specific, not filler):
vol_ratio ≥ 1.2 and exhaustion_score ≥ 0.80 — or does the ~−0.3% futures gap mean-revert at the 8:30 claims print (the briefing's own caution) and leave no program to exhaust?vol_ratio, if it grazes. A 1.08–1.20 print is an observation only (09-29 XLE is UNVERIFIED pending a clean rerun of the locked evaluator — 2026-10-02 peer-review disposition). Per my driver-sector rule, a strengthening-driver XLE fade stands down regardless. No gate touched.Possible, but low — a risk-off open can establish the first-hour trend my mechanism rides, but futures are only mildly lower, the tone may reverse at 8:30, and LOW VIX is my weakest cohort. p_trade 0.14, direction none, conviction low.
I need a clean three-phase structure inside 10:00–12:00: a first-hour establishment (|signal_return| ≥ 0.30%), a measured pullback to session VWAP on contracting volume, and a resumption confirmation candle with ADX ≥ 22 at the resumption bar. No event-day skip applies — FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE/QQQ-earnings are all clear (PEP is not a QQQ mega-cap constituent; the 1:00 PM auction sits after my window) — so the engine will evaluate SPY and QQQ.
Why low. My chronic binders are first_hour_signal and pullback_resumption. The overnight tape is risk-off with a modest lower-start bias (Dow −0.6%), which is the raw material for a down-trend establishment — genuinely better than yesterday's two-sided drift. But: futures are only mildly lower, and the briefing cautions the initial tone may not persist past the 8:30 claims release and PEP reaction — a gap that reverses in the first hour leaves no trend to qualify. VIX 15.96 LOW is my weakest cohort (backtest PF 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30). And the 10-06 counter-case cuts both ways: a decisive first hour (+0.68%) did establish and trade — so a directional open can convert — but 09-28 showed structure-completion is not edge (a completed three-phase structure on a catalyst-gap tape was stopped for −$172.50).
direction none — I trade with the trend, and pre-market direction is unresolved (the lower-start bias is low-confidence and may reverse at 8:30). No honest lean; hit-rate skipped. (Standing item: direction is not an input to SURGE's signal — it resolves at evaluation time — so the frontmatter direction-hit field remains a scoring artifact for this stack. If a trend establishes, the pre-market bias points short.)
Sizing vs. event risk: standard applies if it fires — $187.50 (0.75%), single position, co-fire limiter (stronger |signal_return| between SPY/QQQ wins), hard flat 14:00 ET. No VIX skip added — the session-character read is a forecast, not a parameter.
Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 777.15 (above SMA20 766.46) / ATR14 6.62; QQQ 757.74 (above SMA20 733.75) / ATR14 9.08.
Invalidation: no trade if the first-hour signal is sub-±0.30% or a trend-qualified leg never retraces to VWAP and resumes inside the window. Most likely logged reason: no_signal (first_hour_signal). No overnight exposure — 14:00 ET flat.
What I'm watching (specific):
first_hour_signal 0.27–0.30% band — already-escalated (2026-09 Desk Review Pattern #5, N=5; the 09-05 diagnostic found floor 0.0025 unlocks zero new trades because the downstream pullback/resumption price-path requirement independently blocks those days). No re-open.p_trade 0.16 / none / low, SURGE p_trade 0.14 / none / low. Not averaged — each is that stack's own call off one shared market read: ECHO's is the directional-but-two-sided risk-off fade opportunity, tempered by the vol_ratio binder on a LOW-VIX tape, its own XLE driver-sector stand-down and the PEP single-stock non-qualification; SURGE's is the mildly-lower risk-off open that could establish a first-hour trend but may reverse at 8:30 on its weakest (LOW-VIX) cohort.xbi_leg (n=4, WR 0.0%, PF 0.0, trigger 15+); ECHO ≥1.5-tier XBI fades (0-for-2 — 09-23 −$134.52, 10-06 −$122.92 instant); ECHO vol_ratio 1.08–1.20 region (09-05 diagnostic: not a calibration fix; 09-29 XLE unverified observation pending a clean rerun); ECHO exhaustion_score live-median watch (n=14, far from 40); SURGE ADX 22.0 floor / re-tune watch; SURGE event-day skip diagnostic (resolved MIXED 2026-08-01; NFP cohort bimodal); SURGE 2023 PF 0.95 watch; SURGE short-side net negative (live 8 shorts 4W/4L −$127.35 vs 3 longs 2W/1L +$522.28; sample far below any trigger).Regime watch line above; the feed is stale by twelve sessions, so the persistence test is recorded INDETERMINATE (no confirmed trigger, no posture change). current.json bucket from the file, VIX level (15.96) from the briefing. No trades taken.
