Desk Plan — House Echo — 2026-10-07

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-10-07-pm.md PM: ECHO Last desk plan: desks/house-echo/plans/2026-10-05-plan.md (history read through 2026-10-05)

Regime Watch

Read data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY); report only.

  • Read: status: ok, as_of: 2026-09-22 — STALE by eleven sessions (it lags 09-23, 09-24, 09-25, 09-28, 09-29, 09-30, 10-01, 10-02, 10-05, 10-06 and today). Snapshot: spy_day flat / spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08% / spy_vs_sma50 above 50d / spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (−0.58%) / vix_regime LOW (<18), vix 14.21.
  • Staleness handling (template stale rule applied): the feed is eleven sessions stale, so I do not treat 14.21 as current and I do not call the regime state clean. I take the bucket from the file and the level from the briefing: live ^VIX is 15.62 (prior close 15.01) — same LOW (<18) bucket, ~2.4 points under the LOW/MID boundary at 18. SPY prior close 779.10 is above its 20-day mean (SMA20 765.72); QQQ 759.62 above SMA20 731.68. For the persistence test only, the stale file is recorded as unavailable — an unobserved regime state is not a benign one (the discipline this desk filed at the 2026-10-02 peer review).
  • Charter indicators moving: none of the three shared tags is in a stressed state on the file (spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, spy_drawdown_bucket <2%, vix_regime LOW). But the file lags eleven sessions, so this is not a clean read. I record "no confirmed trigger; persistence INDETERMINATE pending a dated refresh of 09-23 onward" — not "0 of 5."
  • Consistency with the desk's ## Regime Charter: the charter is DRAFT — not ratified; held to it as drafted. The draft's claim is that this desk does not need the market to go up: ECHO fades the day's direction, SURGE rides it, both intraday and direction-agnostic. Today is not a hard skip — both engines evaluate — and neither stack carries a directional bias, so the plan needs no rally. Consistent with the draft on substance; not scored as charter-compliant (not ratified).
  • Persistence rule: not armed on any confirmed basis. The stale feed cannot arm or clear a 5-session stressed stretch, and neither stack is at the 10-consecutive-no-fire clause — as of the record through 2026-10-05 ECHO has not fired since 2026-09-23 (approaching the clause; the tape on the recent eligible sessions was the chronic sub-floor vol_ratio shape), SURGE is well short (last fired 2026-09-28). No proposal, no posture change, watch only. I do not move a gate on regime evidence alone.

Regime watch: data-infra/regime/current.json — as_of 2026-09-22, STALE by eleven sessions → persistence state INDETERMINATE; no shared tag stressed in the file, live VIX 15.62 LOW; charter-consistent on substance; no posture change.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM. No Tier-1 release. FOMC Minutes (September 15–16 meeting) at 2:00 PM ET — a confirmed event window, and per the Scanner's firm-wide status the minutes are not a policy decision and do not trigger the hard skip (firm-wide status GO). Other scheduled macro: US 10-year Treasury note auction, 1:00 PM ET (MEDIUM); EIA crude oil inventories, 10:30 AM ET (MEDIUM, consensus +1.9M vs prior +0.922M); MBA mortgage applications, 7:00 AM ET (LOW); consumer credit, 3:00 PM ET (LOW); LEVI and APLD earnings before open / after close, both below the $10B TRIDENT threshold and not mega-cap. Next Tier-1: September CPI, Tue 2026-10-14, 8:30 AM ET (in 7 days).
  • Session character expected: mixed / news-driven — not a directional pre-call. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at records yesterday, but firmer oil (Brent ≈ $100.93, +0.35%, on Gulf-storm and Saudi-Houthi supply risk) and rising long-dated yields add an inflation-and-duration headwind, and the 1:00 PM auction / 2:00 PM minutes are afternoon volatility transitions. The briefing's discipline: do not infer continuation solely from yesterday's record close; reassess after each catalyst rather than carry one bias through both.
  • VIX regime: 15.62 — LOW (<18) (prior close 15.01), the weakest cohort for both members (ECHO needs a completed high-participation program to have something to exhaust; SURGE's backtest PF is 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30). LOW is background, not a gate input — ECHO's hard skip is a first-half-hour |return| proxy (1.8%, standing in for VIX > 30), SURGE has no VIX skip.
  • Key levels: SPY prior close 779.10 (prior range 777.98–781.59; SMA20 765.72 — above; ATR14 6.91). QQQ prior close 759.62 (prior range 759.18–762.83; SMA20 731.68 — above; ATR14 9.48). An open beyond ≈ ±0.5% (SPY ≈ 3.9 pts, QQQ ≈ 3.8 pts) would be a genuine gap; the IEX pre-market shows no confirmed liquid print (confirm at the open).
  • Macro backdrop: AI-chip leadership (AMD supply commentary, Marvell's stronger data-center outlook) supported the prior session's record close, but no fresh overnight catalyst is confirmed; oil-supply risk and renewed long-end yield pressure keep the valuation backdrop fragile into the Fed's account of its September move.
  • Scanner candidate read (ECHO's dynamic universe): two Directional Catalyst candidates — XLE (EIA inventory print 10:30 AM ET + oil-supply headlines; intrinsic catalyst yes; mixed/event-driven direction — don't infer a clean direction from the headline) and SPY (broad macro via the Fed-minutes event window; two-sided, no verified broad-market gap — the default candidate, weakest catalyst quality absent a confirmed directional move). XBI is not a candidate (no confirmed FDA/PDUFA catalyst today).

ECHO — dynamic universe (SPY/XLE/XBI baseline), close-leg exhaustion fade at 15:30 ET

Possible, but low — a MEDIUM macro/event tape could manufacture the program I fade, but vol_ratio is the chronic binder on a LOW-VIX tape and my strongest fresh candidate is quarantined by my own driver-sector rule. p_trade 0.12, direction none, conviction low.

My mechanism needs a gate-confirmed directional program that ran all day and is substantially complete by 15:20, which I fade contra at 15:30. No hard skip applies — is_hard_skip_day() skips {FOMC, CPI, NFP} and none is live; prior VIX close 15.01 < 30; no mega-cap earnings after prior close (LEVI/APLD are below the threshold); XBI is not ≤ −5%. So the engine will evaluate the baseline SPY/XLE/XBI set and the fresh Scanner candidates (SPY, XLE).

Why not zero, and why not more. Three forces cap it:

  1. The chronic binder is Gate 1, vol_ratio ≥ 1.2, and on LOW-VIX tapes it blocks wide: across the recent stretch SPY/XLE/XBI printed vol_ratio 0.58–1.10, none near the floor. A morning that never establishes ≥ ±0.25% is the other likely denial.
  2. XLE is a fresh catalyst (EIA 10:30) but it trips my own pre-committed driver-sector rule. Oil is firmer on live supply risk (Brent ≈ $100.93, Gulf storm + Saudi-Houthi escalation) — fading XLE, the strengthening driver's own sector, is the loss template the desk adopted after the 08-10 stop-out, not a setup. The EIA Wednesday history agrees (XLE won 1 of 13 dev EIA-Wednesday sessions). So even if XLE clears the gates, the plan stands it down.
  3. SPY is the effectively-eligible fresh candidate — a single instrument, not three — and its catalyst (the Fed-minutes window) is two-sided: the minutes land at 2:00 PM, after the 9:30–10:00 signal window but before my 15:20 gate check, so any program they manufacture is exactly the kind I fade if it holds to 15:20 with elevated volume. The EIA print (10:30) similarly sits after the signal window.

I forecast low, not zero: the tape is genuinely event-rich and my mechanism is built to fade exactly a completed, news-driven program.

direction none — I fade the day's direction, which is unresolved pre-market (no confirmed gap; the catalysts land after the signal window). No honest directional lean; hit-rate is skipped for none.

Sizing vs. event risk: standard applies if it fires — 0.75% per instrument, 2.0% session budget ($500) with proportional scaling, stop 1.5× ATR(14, 5-min), hard flat 15:58 ET. No adjustment for MEDIUM event risk: the minutes are not a hard skip, and the mechanism's own gates (vol_ratio, exhaustion_score) are the filter. No gate logic modified.

Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 779.10 / range 777.98–781.59 / SMA20 765.72 (above) / ATR14 6.91. XLE — fresh EIA catalyst at 10:30; direction genuinely two-sided (supply risk vs. headline risk), and my driver-sector rule stands the fade down regardless. XBI — no confirmed catalyst, not a candidate; the first-half-hour ≤ −5% hard skip stands if it ever evaluates.

Invalidation: no trade if the morning signal is sub-±0.25% or vol_ratio stays sub-1.2 through 15:20. Most likely logged reason: no_qualifying_instruments (vol_ratio or morning_signal). No overnight exposure — 15:58 ET flat.

What I'm watching (specific, not filler):

  1. Does the 1:00 PM auction / 2:00 PM minutes pair generate a one-way afternoon program that holds to 15:20 with vol_ratio ≥ 1.2 and exhaustion_score ≥ 0.80 — or does the tape again print a wide morning signal on sub-floor volume (the modal denial of the recent stretch)?
  2. SPY's morning signal vs. the ±0.25% floor. SPY has been the most recent sub-floor name (10-05 morning signal +0.14%, and prior sessions at −0.11% / +0.01%); a sub-floor open again is the expected shape.
  3. XLE's vol_ratio, if it grazes. XLE bound vol_ratio on three consecutive eligible sessions (09-29 1.088, 10-01 1.070 vs 1.2). If it sits in 1.08–1.20 again, I log it as an observation only. Per the 2026-10-02 peer-review disposition (House Delta → House Echo), the 09-29 XLE counterexample is UNVERIFIED pending a clean rerun of the full locked evaluator — not evidence the 09-05 diagnostic's mechanism failed. No gate touched.

SURGE — SPY/QQQ, VWAP pullback resumption (10:00–12:00 ET)

Unlikely — the catalysts land after my window, but the tape is a two-sided record-high drift on a LOW-VIX tape with no confirmed opening impulse, my known denial shape. p_trade 0.10, direction none, conviction low.

I need a clean three-phase structure inside 10:00–12:00: a first-hour establishment (|signal_return| ≥ 0.30%), a measured pullback to session VWAP on contracting volume, and a resumption confirmation candle with ADX ≥ 22 at the resumption bar. No event-day skip applies — FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE/QQQ-earnings are all clear (the Fed-minutes window is not a decision day and does not trip the skip; the 1:00 PM auction and 2:00 PM minutes land after my window) — so the engine will evaluate SPY and QQQ.

Why low. My chronic binders are first_hour_signal and pullback_resumption. The overnight tape gave no fresh impulse — the prior session's records were AI-chip-led (AMD/MRVL) with no confirmed overnight catalyst, and index futures/pricing carry no verified gap. VIX 15.62 LOW is my weakest cohort (backtest PF 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30). My recent eligible sessions have all denied at the first gate: 09-29 SPY −0.09% / QQQ +0.18%; 10-01 SPY −0.28% / QQQ −0.14%; 10-05 SPY +0.17% / QQQ +0.23% (all sub-±0.30%). A two-sided, record-high drift with firmer yields and oil is precisely the contained tape my plans keep naming. The one mild positive is that today's catalysts (auction, minutes) sit after my 10:00–12:00 window, so a clean morning establishment is not pre-contaminated — but nothing in the pre-market read supplies the impulse to arm one.

direction none — I trade with the trend, and pre-market direction is unresolved (no confirmed gap). No honest lean; hit-rate skipped. (Note: per my standing item, direction is not an input to SURGE's signal — direction resolves at evaluation time — so the frontmatter direction-hit field remains a scoring artifact for this stack.)

Sizing vs. event risk: standard applies if it fires — $187.50 (0.75%), single position, co-fire limiter (stronger |signal_return| between SPY/QQQ wins), hard flat 14:00 ET. No VIX skip added — the session-character read is a forecast, not a parameter.

Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 779.10 (above SMA20 765.72) / ATR14 6.91; QQQ 759.62 (above SMA20 731.68) / ATR14 9.48.

Invalidation: no trade if the first-hour signal is sub-±0.30% (the modal denial of the recent stretch) or a trend-qualified leg never retraces to VWAP and resumes inside the window. Most likely logged reason: no_signal (first_hour_signal). No overnight exposure — 14:00 ET flat.

What I'm watching (specific):

  1. Does a clean three-phase structure form inside 10:00–12:00 — first-hour establishment → VWAP pullback on contracting volume → resumption with ADX ≥ 22 — on a record-high, no-fresh-catalyst open, or does the tape stay two-sided and contained (sub-floor on both legs)?
  2. ADX at any resumption bar — the 22.0 floor is a live graze candidate (09-18: 21.1); the moderate 22–30 band held the 09-23 winner (26.05).
  3. The first_hour_signal 0.27–0.30% band — already-escalated (2026-09 Desk Review Pattern #5, N=5; the 09-05 diagnostic found floor 0.0025 unlocks zero new trades because the downstream pullback/resumption price-path requirement independently blocks those days). No re-open.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-10-07 (backfill — normal 04:30 PT run blocked by an auth outage; written as pre-market, no 2026-10-07 outcome used)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes
  • Firm-wide status: GO — no hard skip today. The FOMC Minutes (2:00 PM ET) are a confirmed event window, not a firm-wide hard skip; the 10-yr auction (1:00 PM ET) and EIA crude (10:30 AM ET) are today's other scheduled volatility windows. Both engines evaluate.
  • Desk net forecast: ECHO p_trade 0.12 / none / low, SURGE p_trade 0.10 / none / low. Not averaged — each is that stack's own call off one shared market read: ECHO's is the event-rich fade opportunity tempered by the vol_ratio binder on a LOW-VIX tape and its own XLE driver-sector stand-down; SURGE's is the contained two-sided, no-fresh-impulse open that denies a clean three-phase establishment.
  • Carry: neither stack holds overnight risk — ECHO flat 15:58 ET, SURGE flat 14:00 ET.
  • Carried TEMPER items (unchanged, untouched — no gate logic modified): ECHO plan/engine enforcement gap (unvalidated hypothesis; pre-entry flags logged each session, no denominator, no enforcement proposal); ECHO xbi_leg (n=3, WR 0.0%, trigger 15+); ECHO vol_ratio 1.08–1.20 region (09-05 diagnostic: not a calibration fix; 09-29 XLE is an unverified observation pending a clean rerun — 2026-10-02 peer-review disposition); ECHO exhaustion_score live-median watch; SURGE ADX 22.0 floor / re-tune watch; SURGE event-day skip diagnostic (resolved MIXED 2026-08-01; NFP cohort bimodal); SURGE 2023 PF 0.95 watch; SURGE short-side net negative (live 8 shorts 4W/4L −$127.35 vs 2 longs 1W/1L +$468.28; sample far below any trigger).
  • Peer-review commitments applied as written: deterministic event-skip rows are not credited as discretionary forecast skill (Reversal → House Echo, 10-02, acted) — today has no skip rows, so both calls are discretionary; the 09-29 XLE counterexample is treated as unverified pending rerun (House Delta → House Echo, 10-02, investigating).
  • Regime: consistent with the draft charter on substance; Regime watch line above; the feed is stale by eleven sessions, so the persistence test is recorded INDETERMINATE (no confirmed trigger, no posture change). current.json bucket from the file, VIX level (15.62) from the briefing.
