Desk Plan — Reversal — 2026-10-06

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-10-06-pm.md PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — this plan covers active members Null + Meridian only)

Regime Watch

Regime watch: data-infra/regime/current.json reads as_of 2026-09-22 — status ok: vix_regime LOW (<18, VIX 14.21), spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (−0.58%), spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, spy_day flat, spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08. The file is now ten sessions stale — it contains nothing from 09-23 through 10-05, nor today — so it is reported as read and treated as directional only.

Persistence check — indeterminate, not passed. Ten stale sessions is well past the charter's five-consecutive-session persistence window, so the stale file cannot support either "all shared tags are baseline" or "no persistent shift." I separate the two claims: (1) verified live print — the briefing's VIX 15.36 (−0.16 vs prior close 15.52), still LOW (<18) — that single tag is observed and LOW; (2) unverified tags — spy_drawdown_bucket and spy_vs_sma50 are not supported by any dated input since 09-22 and are marked unknown. The five-session persistence test is therefore indeterminate/unknown, not a clean pass. Remediation requested (reporting only, no gate): a data-infra refresh and reconciliation of VIX, SPY drawdown and 50-day-SMA tags from 2026-09-23 onward, so the charter's persistence rule can be evaluated on real observations rather than a stale read. No automatic gate, size or parameter change follows from any of this.

Charter consistency (against the DRAFT direction — ## Regime Charter reads DRAFT — not ratified): the one observed tag (VIX LOW) sits at the charter's baseline, and today's plan is consistent with the drafted clauses — intraday only, no overnight hold, no regime-keyed sit-out invented for either member (neither carries one). The unverified tags cannot be asserted as baseline; no Desk Review proposal is triggered. Observation, not a signal: QQQ sits +3.63% above its 20-day SMA (756.09 vs 729.62) and SPY +1.29% above (774.97 vs 765.07) — the stretched up-trending state that produced both members' refusals across 09-29/10-01 and, once, Null's aligned-path loss (09-28). 20d ≠ 50d, so this is not the spy_vs_sma50 tag moving.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM — and the firm's calendar rule leaves the book open. The deterministic Tier-1 calendar flags no Tier-1 event today; the next is FOMC Minutes Wed 10-07, 2:00 PM ET (an event window, not a firm-wide hard skip). Today's scheduled items: U.S. International Trade in Goods & Services (Aug) 8:30 AM ET (an open-time information risk — the briefing supplies no trustworthy consensus/prior, so none is guessed), STZ and LW earnings before the open (neither is a QQQ top-10 name, so Null's Tier-2 earnings filter does not fire), plus low-impact releases (Services Supplied Through Affiliates 10:00, GDPNow 11:30, 3-yr auction 1:00 PM, Fed speakers 1:15 PM and 7:00 PM, API crude 4:30 PM). Firm-wide trade status: GO (Scanner watchlist) — no Tier-1 hard skip and prior VIX 15.52 well below the 30 threshold.
  • Session character expected: constructive but not one-way, modest risk-on. Global equities extended Monday's technology-led advance on earnings-season optimism and easing oil/long-end pressure; index futures ran roughly +0.2–0.4% (CNN S&P +0.29% / Nasdaq +0.41%; Markets Insider +0.21% / +0.32%) — below the scanner's ±1% unusual-move threshold. The rates backdrop and tomorrow's minutes argue against treating a low-volatility snapshot as an all-clear. Pre-market prints in the thin IEX feed are none — confirm the gap at the cash open; do not infer it.
  • VIX regime: 15.36 (LOW, <18), −0.16 vs prior close 15.52 — the cohort in which both members' backtested edge is concentrated (Null backtest WR 80.1% in <18). No VIX gate on either stack; context note only, not a signal.
  • Key levels:
  • QQQ: prior close 756.09 (Null's gap-fill target), prior-day range 749.12 – 756.91 (range 7.79, 0.79× ATR — a contained day), prior high 756.91 (Meridian's sweep level, only +0.11% above the prior close), prior low 749.12, 20-day SMA 729.62 (price +3.63% above), ATR(14) 9.83.
  • SPY: prior close 774.97, prior-day range 769.80 – 776.61 (range 6.81, 0.93× ATR), prior high 776.61 (+0.21% above the prior close), prior low 769.80, 20-day SMA 765.07 (price +1.29% above), ATR(14) 7.29.
  • IWM: no briefing block — Meridian's IWM leg is unpriced pre-open; the engine's own precheck governs it at the open.
  • Null's gap bands off ATR 9.83 / prior close 756.09 (0.10× = 0.983 → 0.130%; 0.30× = 2.949 → 0.390%; 0.70× = 6.881 → 0.910%): gap-down LONG zone [749.21, 755.11]; sub-floor block (755.11, 756.09); tiny gap-up SHORT zone [756.09, 759.04]; refused gap-up ≥0.30× [759.04, 762.97]; oversize ≤749.21 or ≥762.97.
  • Macro backdrop (one sentence): the market opens pushing the AI/large-cap-tech leadership that closed Monday at records into earnings season, against a still-elevated long-end rates backdrop and with tomorrow's 2:00 PM FOMC minutes the nearer policy catalyst — so the desk's setups hinge on the sign of the cash-open gap (Null) and on whether an up-open stalls into a sweepable prior high (Meridian).

Null — QQQ (gap fade / FVG; MNQ proxy, gap measured at the cash open)

Setup present: PLAUSIBLE — p_trade 0.30, direction short, conviction MED. The modal path is a tiny gap-up fade. Nasdaq futures ran ~+0.3–0.4% overnight, which on QQQ is roughly a 0.24–0.29× ATR gap-up — i.e. the open should land inside the cleared tiny gap-up SHORT zone [756.09, 759.04], the sub-0.30× band that cleared rule 3's tiny-gap exception admits even above SMA20, and the exact cohort that carries both of Null's most recent live wins (09-18 gap_ratio 0.244 short +$84.40; 09-25 gap_ratio 0.171 short +$122.10). Critically, this is not the refused path: a gap-up ≥ 0.30× ATR (open ≥ 759.04) is refused by the with-trend filter — the path the desk over-priced on 09-29 (0.42) and 10-01 (0.32), and I am deliberately not re-pricing it high today. A gap-down into the aligned LONG zone [749.21, 755.11] remains eligible, but the positive futures tone makes it the less likely side. A qualifying gap must still print an open drive and a ≥50% single-candle retrace to arm the reversal impulse; a one-way open gives no retrace (the 09-24 max_retrace_ratio=0.00 shape).

Sizing vs event risk: standard — 1 MNQ, 0.5% risk, one position at a time, 11:00 ET hard exit. No change to any cleared parameter. The 8:30 AM trade release and the 10:00 AM prints land inside the 9:30–10:30 entry window; they are volatility inputs, not gates, so they do not alter size or the cleared stop (FVG extreme + 0.25× ATR(1m), capped at 1.5× ATR(1m)). STZ/LW earn before the open but neither is a QQQ top-10 name, so the Tier-2 earnings filter stays clear. If the open drive and a ≥50% single-candle retrace arm, the mechanism takes its cleared setup at standard size.

Key levels: QQQ prior close 756.09 (fill target), prior high 756.91, prior low 749.12, SMA20 729.62 (price +3.63% above — the filter that decides which gaps are eligible), ATR(14) 9.83, VIX 15.36 (LOW). Live zones: tiny gap-up SHORT [756.09, 759.04] ∪ gap-down LONG [749.21, 755.11]; sub-floor block (755.11, 756.09); refused gap-up [759.04, 762.97]; oversize ≤749.21 or ≥762.97.

Invalidation / stand-down: cleared stand-downs unchanged — sub-floor gap (open within 0.13% of 756.09), oversize gap (≤749.21 or ≥762.97), a refused with-trend gap-up ≥0.30× (open ≥ 759.04), a one-way tape that gives no open drive / no ≥50% retrace, or the unmeasurable pre-market-volume rule. A gap that opens and runs without retracing is the live risk; it is a cleared-parameter path, not a sit-out.

The specific thing I am watching (not filler): where QQQ opens relative to 759.04 — inside the eligible tiny gap-up SHORT zone (< 759.04), or up into the refused band. If futures' +0.3–0.4% pushes the open to ≥ 759.04, the trend filter refuses it and the honest read is a no-trade, not an over-price. The second watch is whether the open gives a clean drive + ≥50% retrace or a one-way continuation.

Mechanism health (read-only): SPRT CONTINUE — n=17 W15/L2, LLR +2.168, cumulative +$1,898.25 net / +$1,906.75 gross, WR 88.2%, 0.777 from the CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST boundary (unchanged since 09-28). First-loss watch N=2 — 09-03 and 09-28 share one mechanism-level shape (a counter-trend fade against a one-way session drive, stopped inside 15 minutes, both LOW-VIX). Desk tripwire is N ≥ 3 → a filter/stop question to TEMPER, as a question. Armed, not triggered. Sub-floor compression cluster N=4 (0.081 / 0.053 / 0.045 / 0.038 since 09-01). No gate or parameter touched.

Null — p_trade-bucket calibration table (DELTA's ask; through 10-05): the 0.30–0.39 bucket has realised ~0.25 against a nominal ~0.35, and the desk's documented over-price has been on the refused gap-up path (09-29 0.42, 10-01 0.32 — a forecast-construction finding carried to TEMPER, not a gate). Today's 0.30 is built as P(qualifying gap) ≈ 0.39 × P(pattern | qualifying gap) ≈ 0.77 ≈ 0.30, and it prices the eligible tiny gap-up path, with an explicit refusal branch at 759.04 — not the refused up-side one.

Meridian — QQQ/SPY/IWM (kill-zone prior-high sweep + RSI(2) ≥ 88, bearish only)

Setup present: UNLIKELY — p_trade 0.08, direction short, conviction LOW. No Tier-1 event closes the session, so the full precheck stack runs — but a risk-on up-open is the wrong structural backdrop for this mechanism, and the exhaustion filter is the deepest binder. Two of three conditions actively point away from a fire:

  1. Geometry is wrong-footed by a likely up-open. Both sweep levels sit barely above the prior close — QQQ prior high 756.91 (+0.11%) and SPY prior high 776.61 (+0.21%) — while futures are +0.2–0.4%. The rule needs an intraday spike through the level that closes back below in the same 5-min bar (Rule 1); a tape that opens at or above the high has already consumed the level in the gap and offers no intraday sweep — the 09-29/10-01 no_sweep shape (gap_to_level 0.35% / 0.177%), not the sweep shape.
  2. The exhaustion filter is 0-for-12 live. Since 07-20 the engine has logged 12 sweep-chain leg-rows and zero RSI(2) ≥ 88 prints; closest IWM 84.2 (09-21), 3.8 points short. I do not touch the 88 line.
  3. ADX band unknowable pre-open — and recently it has been the whole story. 10-05 prints were QQQ 9.9 / SPY 9.6 / IWM 17.4 — all below the 18 floor, so adx_precheck blocked the entire session. A quiet-VIX, modest-risk-on open is exactly the regime that has been printing sub-18 ADX.

The one upside path — an earnings-season risk-on rally that stalls (a fast move that fails to broaden is the sweep-and-fail shape) — keeps the price above zero, but well below the desk's historical mean p. The desk's reachability record — "band inside, level within a short reach, no_sweep binds" — stands at N=4 (09-24 QQQ, 09-28 SPY, 09-29 SPY 0.35%, 10-01 QQQ 0.177% — closest in record).

Sizing vs event risk: standard — $250/leg, caps 10 MNQ / 5 MES / 5 M2K, 2-loss daily cap, hard close 11:30 ET; the same-sign stop guard voids any malformed stop (live since 2026-08-20). No change to any cleared parameter. The 8:30 AM trade release and the 13:15 ISM-adjacent Fed remarks fall inside/around the kill zone; they are not gates.

Key levels: QQQ prior high 756.91 (sweep level, +0.11% above prior close 756.09); SPY prior high 776.61 (+0.21% above 774.97); IWM unavailable. ADX band 18–32. Volatility precheck (reads yesterday's range): QQQ prior range 7.79 vs a ceiling ≈ 9.2–9.4 (1.25 × the recent ~7.4 avg range) → passes comfortably (~0.84×); SPY prior range 6.81 vs an estimated ceiling ≈ 6.6–6.7 (1.25 × ~5.3) → borderline, may be blocked at ~1.03× — so even the priced legs may not both clear the volatility gate, and on a live day the binding gates would be ADX and the sweep/exhaustion stack. ATR(14) daily QQQ 9.83 / SPY 7.29 → the stop is the engine's own 2.0× ATR(5m) beyond the swept wick.

Invalidation / stand-down: no_sweep (no leg tags and closes back below its prior high) — the modal outcome given a risk-on open at/above the levels; adx_precheck outside 18–32 (recent prints sub-18); volatility if either prior range exceeds its ceiling (SPY borderline today); the 2-loss daily cap; the 11:30 ET hard close. I do not touch the RSI(2) ≥ 88 line or the 18 floor: cleared-parameter territory, only TEMPER can move them.

The specific thing I am watching (not filler): whether the up-open stalls and a leg spikes through QQQ 756.91 / SPY 776.61 and closes back below in the same 5-min bar (a genuine sweep), or the tape simply opens at/above the levels and drifts higher/away (no_sweep). And, if a leg does tag, whether RSI(2) finally prints ≥ 88 (0-for-12 live; the deepest binder in the stack).

Mechanism health (read-only): SPRT CONTINUE — n=3 W2/L1, LLR +0.222, cumulative +$385.22, WR 66.7%; spy_leg n=1 WR 100%; iwm_leg n=0 (honest live anchor ~56%, not the 73.3% headline). No tweak proposed.

Meridian — reachability/ADX-floor question (carried, N=4, named not generalised). The shape "ADX band inside, level within a short reach, no_sweep binds" stands at N=4; on both 09-29 and 10-01 the floor was open on the leg that reached the sweep stack and no_sweep still bound, so the desk's read (stated, not acted on) is that the constraint sits downstream of the band — the sweep definition plus RSI(2) ≥ 88. Carried to TEMPER as a question; no parameter touched.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-10-06 (pre-market, 04:35 PT / 07:35 ET) — retroactive backfill (original 04:30 run blocked by a Nous auth outage)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for active members only (Null, Meridian): yes. Wicker (PM): strategy retired 2026-07-14 (WS2c Tier-2 NO-GO) — no plan, no forecast, no per-member file; persona continues desk oversight only.
  • Firm-wide GO; event risk MEDIUM (8:30 AM trade balance; STZ/LW pre-open earnings; next Tier-1 FOMC Minutes 10-07). No Tier-1 gate fires today, so both members' full precheck stacks run. Null p_trade 0.30 / direction short / conviction med; Meridian p_trade 0.08 / direction short / conviction low.
  • Base-case desk outcome: Null is the live one today — a modest risk-on open puts a tiny gap-up short fade in play (inside [756.09, 759.04]), and it takes its cleared setup at standard size if the pattern gate arms; if the open reaches ≥ 759.04 the with-trend filter refuses it. Meridian is unlikely to fire — a risk-on open at/above its prior highs is the wrong backdrop for a sweep, and the exhaustion filter is 0-for-12.
  • One thing I am watching, both stacks: where the tape opens relative to the prior highs. For Null: does QQQ open inside the eligible tiny gap-up zone [756.09, 759.04] (a short fade) or up into the refused band ≥ 759.04 — and does the open give a clean drive + ≥50% retrace? For Meridian: does the up-open stall into a genuine spike-and-close-back sweep at QQQ 756.91 / SPY 776.61, or does the tape open at/above the levels and log no_sweep — and would a tag finally print RSI(2) ≥ 88 (0-for-12 live).
  • Peer-review carry-in (2026-10-02, Reversal's own items all acted): (a) the stale-feed regime state is reported as persistence indeterminate/unknown with the verified VIX print separated from the unverified drawdown/50d-SMA tags, and a data-infra refresh requested — no "baseline" claim from stale data; (b) charter status said as draft direction, DRAFT — not ratified; (c) Null's p_trade over-pricing on the refused gap-up path is carried as a forecast-construction TEMPER question (N=2 in-window), and today's price is on the eligible tiny gap-up path with an explicit refusal branch; (d) Meridian's reachability shape is stated at N=4 with its count and not generalised; (e) no miss is filed as "REGIME" without its N.
  • Reconfirmation ledger: no open item gates today. Meridian IWM expansion CLOSED 2026-08-20 (strategy_v7.md); standing ~6-month decay re-backtest next due ~2027-02-20. Wicker's feed/session re-run remains the desk's highest-priority open reconfirmation (own stack retired, not a today blocker).
  • Regime watch line: data-infra/regime/current.json — as_of 2026-09-22 (ten sessions stale; directional only) — vix_regime LOW (<18); spy_drawdown_bucket and spy_vs_sma50 unverified/unknown; persistence check indeterminate; consistent with the DRAFT Regime Charter; no Desk Review proposal; refresh requested.
  • Method note (transparency, no execution impact): every pre-session number that matters is the engine's own precheck at the open. The gap zones, volatility ceilings and band arithmetic here are my own off the briefing's authoritative prices (ATR 9.83 / prior close 756.09); IWM is marked unavailable. Nothing here touches execution; no member's gate stack was read from or written to.
