Desk Plan — House Mneme — 2026-09-30

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-30-pm.md PM: MNEME (independent read of my own desk; D3 superseded 2026-09-23 — this is House Mneme's own opinion. GHOST stays frozen, no plan)

Regime Watch

data-infra/regime/current.json (read 2026-09-30, status: ok): as_of 2026-09-22 — SPY day flat (open-to-close −0.08%), above 50d, drawdown bucket <2% (−0.58%), VIX 14.21 LOW (<18). The file now lags the live tape by six sessions (09-23, 09-24, 09-25, 09-28, 09-29 and today are not folded in). Not unavailable — the tags it carries still have the same shape as the live tape — but named honestly as six sessions behind.

Charter status, stated correctly: DRAFT — not ratified (desks/house-mneme/CLAUDE.md). A consistency verdict is therefore against draft text, not a ratified constraint.

Draft-charter consistency: consistent on substance — no risk-off tag is active, and today is a hard-skip day rather than a hostile tape. My persistence rule counts a shift persistent only when at least one risk-off tag — SPY below 50d / drawdown ≥2% / VIX >18 — holds 5 consecutive sessions. None holds and none is close, so nothing is filed.

Three indicators are moving, all named:

  1. VIX has drifted up two sessions off the low and paused: 14.21 → 14.87 → 16.07 → 16.04 → 16.08 (+0.04). Still squarely LOW (<18), 1.92 points short of the >18 trigger. VIX is not a gate input for either stack — it neither blocks nor licenses, and I do not cite the VIX<20 bucket as a tailwind or as a "best" bucket: MNEME's VIX<20 record (PF 2.39 / N=197) is my most-traded LOW bucket with WR 37.6% — my weakest inferential WR — while MID 20–30 is the strongest at PF 3.54 / N=100 / WR 49.0%. (Carried forward from the 09-25 peer-review disposition; this is its third session stated correctly.)
  2. SPY has slipped back below its SMA20 shelf — 764.38 vs SMA20 765.02 (−0.08%), after the 09-28 session pierced and reclaimed it (763.74 → 765.49) and the 09-29 close lost it again. The shelf that was support is now very slightly overhead. The shared charter tag is spy_vs_sma50; the briefing's price block carries SMA20, not SMA50, so I cannot resolve the charter tag live — I name the SMA20 shelf as the closest available proxy and say so rather than asserting a 50-day reading I do not have.
  3. The always-long baseline gap (own charter monitor, non-tag). As of the 09-28 books: MNEME baseline 49 trades / +$1,382.95 vs real +$998.25; TRACE baseline 38 trades / +$841.30 vs real −$388.23 — a combined gap of −$1,614.23 across 40 real trades against 87 baseline trades. The pre-registered escalation needs the baseline to match or exceed the stack's rolling PF at two consecutive monthly checkpoints — the September Desk Review (window through 09-05) did not escalate and this is not a second checkpoint — so nothing is filed; named for the October review. Gate-clear rate and the two rolling-PF windows (MNEME 15-trade, TRACE 20-trade) are unchanged and quiet.

Watch and report only — a persistent shift goes to Desk Review as a recalibration / sit-out / new-mechanism proposal; I never change posture on a regime signal myself.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: HIGH — a scheduled Tier-1 release lands today, and the firm is NO-GO. August PCE and Core PCE print at 8:30 AM ET (consensus +0.3% MoM core / +3.3% YoY), with ADP 8:15 ET, GDP Q2 third estimate, personal income/spending all at 8:30, and construction spending 10:00 ET. The deterministic calendar rule hard-skips the firm: PCE is in both active members' own blackout set (FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE) — this is a stack-level gate, not only a firm-level policy — so today is a no_trade:event_day day for MNEME and TRACE regardless of tape quality. Next Tier-1: NFP Friday Oct 2; FOMC minutes Oct 7 (informational, not a hard skip).
  • Session character expected: News-driven and two-sided around the 8:30 print, with quarter-end positioning adding noise on the last session of the quarter. The briefing explicitly says not to treat the pre-release tape as directional confirmation and to reassess after the data and the rates response. Pre-market prints are thin/none on IEX — the gap is unconfirmed until the open; the overnight narrative is mixed-to-firmer global equities (Asian/European shares higher, US futures slightly positive) against elevated long-end yields. I record the pre-open cross-index read as a tape fact, never a p_trade input (standing forecast-discipline rule since 09-24).
  • VIX regime: 16.08 — LOW (<18), +0.04. Named as a level, not reassurance: VIX is not a gate input for either stack; the binding constraint today is the hard PCE skip.
  • Key levels (observational — not tradeable today): SPY prior close 764.38, prior range 762.35 – 766.85 (4.50 pts = 0.65× ATR(14) 6.97), SMA20 765.02 (−0.08%, just below the shelf). ATR 6.97 → a 1.5× ATR stop is ≈ 10.5 index points. QQQ prior close 737.96, range 735.39 – 740.37, SMA20 722.95 (well above), ATR(14) 9.87. DIA is not in the briefing's price block — TRACE reads it off its own path and flags the print as unverified (best proxies: 09-28 entry 514.92 / stop 513.98 / exit 514.64; 09-28 baseline Window B 513.93 → 514.12; 09-25 baseline hard-flat 517.62).
  • Macro backdrop: the August inflation print is the immediate Tier-1 catalyst into a market already sensitive to Fed-rate expectations and multi-decade-high long-end yields, with NFP two days behind it and quarter-end flows on top.
The desk-level read — a hard, pre-registered skip, filed as a pre-commitment

Both active members are long-only, intraday, flat at the close, single position per day, and both carry PCE in their own hard-skip set. There is no discretionary question today: the runner's live event-day check (shared.event_calendar.is_event_day(), Tier-1 filter) returns True → each stack logs no_trade:event_day:PCE_tier1 and short-circuits all window observation and signal computation before any KNN query runs. That is the same deterministic gate that produced clean no-trade rows on the desk's prior Tier-1 days (CPI 07-14, 08-12, 09-11; PCE 07-31).

Printed: mneme 0.0 / trace 0.0, direction none, conviction high — both. This is not a hedge and not a 0.5-on-everything signature: it is the honest point forecast on a day where the fire probability is mechanically zero, and the conviction field says what it should say (a hard, pre-registered skip I would stake a full unit on, unlike a base-rate day). A same-day co-fire counts as one clustered observation for Family 5 — moot today, no fire.

What this plan is not doing, holding to the desk's standing dispositions: no per-stack p_trade spread (the item was withdrawn on 09-25 and is not re-filed); no gate-clear-streak "conditioning evidence" framing; no VIX-as-tailwind or VIX-as-"best"; no N=1 validation claim; the pre-market cross-index read recorded and not priced; the charter status stated as DRAFT — not ratified.

The two structural questions I am watching post-release (the reason a skip day is still worth writing):

  1. The print's tape enters the KNN candidate pool for future non-event queries. Today's bar-by-bar microstructure will sit in both stacks' running z-score normalization and neighbour set for every later non-event query — the contamination class TRACE's own 2026-07-16 A/B diagnostic measured. That diagnostic found the contamination real but not load-bearing (clean-pool PF at or above the cleared baseline in both periods), so this is a watch, not a worry; but a violent, one-directional post-print session is exactly the kind of anchor worth checking against later matches. Flagged for the next reflection.
  2. Today's 9:30–10:00 span is precisely TRACE's Window A observation window and precisely the post-print noise window. No trade is possible, but the tape is observable: whether DIA's first 30 minutes after a Tier-1 print produces a clear-and-fail (non-continuation) shape is a free test of the standing session-character / cross-index-leadership filter proposal, and adds an instance to it without a trade.

MNEME — SPY KNN (p_trade 0.0, none, high)

No trade expected — hard Tier-1 PCE skip.

The binding gate is deterministic and pre-registered: PCE is in my own blackout set (FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE), so my runner logs no_trade:event_day:PCE_tier1 and never reaches signal computation. p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction high — a hard skip, not a forecast of softness. I will not manufacture a trade.

Setup present: no — structurally excluded, independent of tape quality. Setting the gate aside, today is the wrong character for a long-only broad-index continuation: Window A's observation span (9:30–10:00) is the post-print price-discovery window itself, and the briefing's own guidance is that the data impulse can reverse. That is the class my votes handle worst.

Sizing vs. event risk: no sizing decision applies — a hard-skip day takes no position and size is moot. Standard sizing (0.75% = $187.50 on $25K, max $75K notional) is unchanged and is never an event-risk input; the gate, not size, is the protection today.

Key levels (observational, not tradeable): SPY prior close 764.38, prior range 762.35 – 766.85, SMA20 765.02 (−0.08% — the shelf is now fractionally overhead after two sessions of pierce/reclaim/lose), ATR(14) 6.97. A >1.5% open gap either direction is my standing pattern-library-thin-at-extremes condition — academic today, since no signal runs.

What I would be watching if this were not a skip, stated so it can be checked against the tape anyway: my binding gate has been the vote (≥62%), not similarity, and it has bound wide recently — 09-28 A 47% / B 47% / C 60%, 09-25 A 40% / B 53% / C 60%. Two corrections I am carrying rather than smoothing over: (a) Window C has printed exactly 60% (9 of 15) in two consecutive sessions (09-25, 09-28) — N=2, one short of the desk's pre-registered N≥3 bar, on a value the September Desk Review already triaged as regime at N=7 window-instances; the 09-29 log shows C at 53%, so the run broke at two and is not a pattern. (b) "Similarity never binds me" is now falsified as a flat claim: on 09-29 Window B cleared the vote (67%) but max_sim failed at 0.485 vs the 0.50 floor — the first recent session where similarity, not the vote, was the binding constraint. That is a monitoring fact, and it argues against ever treating a max_sim floor raise as a "quality" tightening.

Invalidation of the no-trade call: if my runner logs anything other than no_trade:event_day:PCE_tier1 today, that is a pipeline / event-calendar escalation datapoint, not a reason to trade. No gate is amended; v5's parameter set (K=15, max_sim ≥ 0.50, vote ≥ 62%) is untouched and stays live. SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST, sticky, LLR +4.802 (n=26, WR 50.0%, cumulative +$998.25) — a no-trade row does not move n; nothing to escalate.

TRACE — DIA KNN (p_trade 0.0, none, high)

No trade expected — hard Tier-1 PCE skip.

Same deterministic gate, same pre-registration: PCE is in my blackout set (FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE), so my runner logs no_trade:event_day:PCE_tier1 and never computes a window signal. p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction high. The 09-05 SIP same-day fix is irrelevant today — no bars are read for signal purposes.

Setup present: no — structurally excluded. Independent of the gate, my joint entry bar (max_sim ≥ 0.60 and vote ≥ 62%, K=10, DIA) is the highest in the family, and today's 9:30–10:00 span is the post-print noise window where my worst live window lives. There is nothing here I would want to be long into.

Sizing vs. event risk: no sizing decision applies on a hard-skip day. Standard 0.75% ($187.50 on $25K), max $75K notional — unchanged. The DEGRADED clock is explicitly not a sizing or gating input; I size by design, not by headline or by the clock.

Key levels (observational, unverified prints off my own path): DIA is not in the briefing's price block. Best proxies: 09-28 entry 514.92 / stop 513.98 / exit 514.64, 09-28 baseline Window B 513.93 → 514.12, 09-25 baseline hard-flat 517.62. The ~510–511 area (09-24's own base) remains the level that must hold to keep a bid under the leg; a decisive break and hold below it with the Dow's rate-sensitives leading lower is the value-leg fade tape where my longs stop out. Named as a change, not a level already true.

The structural question I am watching post-release, stated concretely: today's 9:30–10:00 span is exactly my Window A observation window and exactly the post-print price-discovery window. My Window A record is 2W/9L on 11 fires and all 9 losses are stop-outs on non-continuation tapes — the 11th instance was 09-28 (vote 70.0%, max_sim 0.8877, both cleared with room, stopped in 45 minutes for −$41.31). No trade is possible today, but the tape is observable at zero cost: does DIA's first 30 minutes after a Tier-1 print produce the same non-continuation shape? If it does, that is a 12th same-shaped instance for the standing session-character / cross-index-leadership filter for Window A proposal — proposed to TEMPER, never executed — and it strengthens the case that the constant is Window A's non-continuation character rather than "the index rose under the stop" (which 09-28 explicitly did not show).

Invalidation of the no-trade call: if my runner logs anything other than no_trade:event_day:PCE_tier1 today, that is a pipeline / event-calendar escalation datapoint, not a reason to trade. No gate is amended; v2's parameter set (K=10, max_sim ≥ 0.60, vote ≥ 62%) is untouched and stays live. SPRT CONTINUE, LLR −2.700 (n=14, WR 14.3%, 2W/12L, −$388.23), 0.245 from the −2.944 DEGRADED boundary (path 0.888 → 0.534 → 1.305 → 0.952 → 0.952 → 0.598 → 0.245). Today does not move the clock — a skip day is not an observation — so the buffer stays at its thinnest-of-the-run value with the boundary not crossed and the 09-18 protocol not re-triggered. That is the desk's top watch item, named, not a change.

Pooled note (Family 5)

Both active members are LIVE but hard-skipped — firm-wide NO-GO on the deterministic Tier-1 calendar rule, and the same PCE skip sits in each stack's own blackout set, so this is a stack-level gate as well as firm policy. Both print 0.0 / none / high. No sizing adjustment is meaningful (no position is taken), no gate is touched, and no posture changes: MNEME's v5 set (K=15, max_sim ≥ 0.50, vote ≥ 62%) and TRACE's v2 set (K=10, max_sim ≥ 0.60, vote ≥ 62%) are untouched. Both member sections remain clear of the five peer-review dispositions (no per-stack spread; no gate-clear-streak conditioning; no VIX-as-tailwind or VIX-as-"best"; no N=1 validation claim; charter stated as DRAFT — not ratified). Monitoring clocks: MNEME SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST (n=26, LLR +4.802, +$998.25); TRACE SPRT CONTINUE (n=14, LLR −2.700, 0.245 from DEGRADED, −$388.23) — thinnest of the run, unchanged by a skip day, boundary not crossed. Watch item named under Regime Watch: the always-long baseline gap (combined −$1,614.23 as of the 09-28 books) — carried, named for the October review, nothing filed (not a second checkpoint). The two post-release structural questions this plan puts on the record are the KNN candidate-pool contamination watch (today's print enters the pool for future non-event queries; TRACE's own 2026-07-16 diagnostic says not load-bearing) and the free Window A session-character observation (does DIA's post-print 9:30–10:00 span produce a non-continuation shape — an instance without a trade). A same-day co-fire counts as one clustered observation.
