Desk Plan — House Delta — 2026-09-28

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-28-pm.md PM: DELTA (independent read of my own desk — D3 superseded 2026-09-23; this is House Delta's own opinion, not a blend)

Regime Watch

data-infra/regime/current.json (read 2026-09-28, status: ok): as_of 2026-09-22 — SPY day flat (open-to-close −0.08%), above 50d, drawdown bucket <2% (−0.58%), VIX 14.21 LOW (<18). The file now lags the live tape by four sessions (09-23, 09-24, 09-25 and today are not reflected). It is a dated read, not a stale-missing one — I name it as behind the tape rather than writing unavailable, which is the convention my last three plans used.

Consistency with House Delta's ## Regime Charter (desks/house-delta/CLAUDE.md) — consistent; no non-baseline tag is active. The charter still reads DRAFT — not ratified, and I am held to it either way. Walking my charter's own indicator list (item 5) against the file and today's live tape: spy_drawdown ≥ 5% — no (<2% at the file's read; nothing in today's backdrop implies a 5% drawdown); vix_regime MID or HIGH — no (LOW; the file's 14.21 and today's live 16.40 both sit inside LOW (<18)); spy_vs_sma50 below 50d — not measured: the file's dated tag says above 50d (as of 09-22) and today's briefing carries SPY above its SMA20 (765.34) but no current SMA50 level, so proximity to that tag is unmeasured, not "close" — same honesty note as my 09-25 plan. Nothing in today's plan changes posture: long-only, intraday, flat by 15:30, one position.

Two readings worth naming precisely, neither a shift:

  1. VIX moved up on the day, materially, and it is still the favorable bucket. 16.40 vs 14.87 prior close (+1.53, +10.3%) — the largest one-day step in the series I have been tracking (14.14 → 15.18 → 16.13 intraday → 15.67 → 15.36 → 14.87 → 16.40). It remains 13.6 points below my 30 hard skip and inside LOW (<18), my best-backtested LONG bucket (my own tabulation: VIX < 18 PF 2.22, n=62; 18–28 PF 1.62). A jump of this size is the first live evidence of the transition I have said I would watch, but it is one reading, not a persistent shift: my persistence rule needs the same non-baseline tag for 5 consecutive sessions, and the tag is still baseline (LOW).
  2. The constructive baseline survived the weekend in the file's terms, and the briefing's own framing is that today challenges it rather than reverses it. SPY and QQQ both closed 09-25 above their SMA20s (765.34 / 720.88) and the briefing says the shock "challenges that constructive baseline rather than establishing a confirmed trend reversal."

Own-desk charter watches: rolling 6-month PF reads 1.648, alert OFF — carried as the demonstrated instrument finding (a fixed trailing-180d window holding the whole book is cumulative PF under another name, and the on/off state is one trade's gross P&L against a fixed loss base); no escalation filed on the OFF print. Per-pair PF: AMD→TSM n=11, WR 45.5%, PF 1.346 (above 1.0 for the first time, no recovery declared), NVDA→ASML 2W/0L, +$264.42. Watch and report only — a persistent shift becomes a Desk Review proposal (recalibration / sit-out / new-mechanism), never an automatic change, and I touch no gate.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: HIGH (briefing rating) — but no Tier-1 release today. The schedule is genuinely light: 10:30 ET Dallas Fed Texas Manufacturing (Sep, prior 11.6) and all-day T-bill auctions (3/6/52-week), both LOW impact; the briefing explicitly excludes a MarketWatch average-hourly-earnings line as a date error. The HIGH rating is event risk in the geopolitical/rates sense, not the calendar sense — the weekend broke the Iran/Hormuz relief case (Trump rejected Iran's seven-day proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, crude rebounded), with oil and long-end yields up and the market marking down near-term de-escalation odds. The next hard skip is PCE Sep 30 (2 days), then NFP Oct 2 (4 days), CPI Oct 14, FOMC minutes Oct 7 (event window only, not a hard skip), FOMC decision Oct 28. Firm-wide status GO; prior VIX close 14.87 << 30; regular Monday session. Nothing on this calendar stands my stack down by rule — HIGH is a caution, not one of my four hard skips.
  • Session character expected: news-driven, headline-sensitive, two-tier, with a gap-down bias led by rate-sensitive growth. Nasdaq futures were reported weaker than S&P futures as oil and yields climbed, so the visible weak leg is high-duration tech — which is directly my instrument complex, since ASML, TSM, NVDA and AMD are all high-multiple semis. The briefing is explicit that the desk should not promote the pre-open tier polarity into a directional base case: "don't pre-assign the session's direction or tier polarity on this policy/geo coin-flip," and it wants the gap's extension-or-reversal resolved by the opening structure. I take that instruction literally, because it is exactly the read my mechanism depends on. Energy (XLE) is the relative-strength leg; my complex is the relative-weak leg — the adverse assignment for a LONG-only lead-lag book.
  • VIX regime: 16.40 LOW (<18), up 1.53 on the day. LOW is my best backtest bucket and is the dispersion condition my mechanism needs; it carries no direction. A VIX that keeps stepping at this rate is the one thing that would move my regime tag, and it is nowhere near a tag change yet.
  • Key levels (index context only — I do not trade the indices): SPY prior close 771.35, prior-day range 766.32 – 772.26, SMA20 765.34, ATR(14) 6.83; QQQ prior close 744.44, prior-day range 739.67 – 745.84, SMA20 720.88, ATR(14) 9.44. Trailing ATR is not elevated, so an open outside roughly ±0.5% (SPY ~3.9 pts = 0.57× ATR; QQQ ~3.7 pts = 0.39× ATR) is a genuine gap rather than noise. Yesterday's session extremes are the first real gap tests — QQQ 739.67 and SPY 766.32 as the range lows to lose, QQQ 745.84 / SPY 772.26 as the range highs to reclaim.
  • Macro backdrop: the weekend removed the de-escalation option that Friday's tape was pricing, leaving the same two pressures that have dominated the last two weeks — crude higher on Hormuz supply risk and long-end yields higher near multi-decade highs — pressing on the most rate-sensitive part of the market, with PCE Wednesday and payrolls Friday making this a high-information week and the lived Iran headline a two-sided coin-flip rather than a signed outcome.
  • Documented data gap (carried, and load-bearing today): neither firm input carries an instrument-level price print for any of my four legs. The briefing's chip line gives % moves only (NVDA −0.85% and INTC −3.82% appear as a watchlist pre-market mover snapshot, unverified and undated), and the watchlist's own QQQ snapshot (737.83, −0.90%, investing.com) is flagged stale/asynchronous. I therefore adopt no pre-market level for NVDA, ASML, AMD or TSM, treat the snapshot gap as indicative, unconfirmed, and confirm all four pair inputs live at the 09:30 cash open. That is not a formality today: the size of the gap is the single input that decides which branch of my mechanism is even reachable, and I am refusing to price it off an undated widget rather than inventing a number.

DELTA — Lead-Lag Pairs (NVDA→ASML, AMD→TSM), LONG-only

Call: p_trade 0.10, direction long, conviction low. Setup present unlikely, and I want to say why in the mechanism's own terms rather than as a mood. My signal is a leader's first-hour return off the 09:30 cash open, read at 09:55, versus ±1.5%: NVDA ≥ +1.5% → buy ASML at the 10:00 bar (primary, edge-carrying cell), AMD ≥ +1.5% → buy TSM (secondary). A leader ≤ −1.5% is my disabled-SHORT branch (ENABLE_SHORT = False) — no trade by rule, not a missed LONG, and it is the ledger's modal down-tape outcome (10 of 49 scored sessions). Today's pre-open state assigns my complex to the weak leg of a risk-off, yield-and-oil-driven tape with an explicit gap-down bias, which is the shape that produces the untradeable branch far more often than the tradeable one. Firing a LONG today requires a leader to be up ≥1.5% within the first 25 minutes against that backdrop.

Why 0.10, stated against my own bucket arithmetic. intelligence/plan-calibration.csv, my rows, as of today (49 scored days, 9 fires, unconditional realized fire rate 0.184, mean forecast 0.181 — the series is now near-calibrated on the mean):

p_trade bucketscored plan daysfiresrealized fire rate
0.00–0.101200.000
0.12–0.151440.286
0.18–0.251320.154
0.30+1030.300
all4990.184

0.10 sits at the top edge of my 0.00–0.10 bucket, whose realized rate is 0.000 on 12 days — so I am knowingly pricing above my bucket's realized rate, and I owe the honest reasons, exactly two, both named: (1) the mirror of the pre-consumed gap. My window starts at the 09:30 print, so a gap-down leader whose decline is spent at the open can print a positive first-hour read and fire — that is precisely what happened on 09-24 (a gap-down that round-tripped into a +2.56% first-hour read, firing my largest Phase 3 trade, +$406.84), and it is the single most plausible route to a trade today because the pre-open bias and my required sign point the same way only through a reversal; (2) the headline is genuinely two-sided. An Iran/de-escalation headline landing inside the first hour flips oil, yields and high-duration tech fast, and a headline-driven reversal is the second mechanical route to a ≥+1.5% first-hour clear. If neither appears — the base case — I expect no trade, and 0.10 is the honest price of the two upside routes existing at all. I am not pricing this off Friday's tape, off the pre-market gap-bias narrative, or off the recent 3-of-4 session fire cluster: the four fires in the 0.12–0.15 bucket are a bucket fact, not a licence to lift the number on a tape whose pre-open shape points at the untradeable branch.

Sizing vs. event risk: standard — 0.75% single-position risk, one position at a time, no parameter adjusted. HIGH event risk is geopolitical and rate-driven, not a scheduled binary, so it is not a hard skip; VIX 16.40 is 13.6 points below my 30 skip; and my hard 15:30 flat plus a 2.0× ATR(14, 5-min) stop bound the exposure inside the session with zero overnight and zero weekend carry. I am not inventing a thin-tape size-down, a headline buffer, or a widened stop off a Monday-morning read — my own peer-review disposition tells other desks not to do that, and it applies to me first. Two mechanical notes that follow from the design rather than from caution: (a) with PCE on Wednesday morning, today is the first of two sessions before a hard skip — if a signal fires today it is a normal, fully-sized intraday trade that is flat long before PCE exists; (b) the Dallas Fed print at 10:30 ET lands after my entry bar and inside my holding window, so it can stop me out but cannot stop me in — no entry buffer is warranted, and I add none.

Session-character fit: poor-to-neutral — the worst assignment this series has offered, and it is a fit question, not a gate question. My mechanism needs a large idiosyncratic first-hour leader impulse that the laggard has not yet followed. A headline-driven risk-off gap-down with tech as the designated weak leg can supply impulse — but on the down side, which is untradeable by rule, and the briefing explicitly refuses to pre-assign whether the gap extends or reverses. What today does not supply is the precondition of the tradeable branch: a semi complex being bid and a leader moving up ≥1.5% off the open. That asymmetry is the whole reason 0.10 is at the bottom of my live range rather than at the 0.184 unconditional.

Key levels (mine only): the only load-bearing numbers are each leader's first-hour return off the 09:30 cash open, read at 09:55, versus ±1.5% — NVDA ≥ +1.5% → buy ASML (primary, edge-carrying, live 2W/0L +$264.42 — unseen since 2026-08-03, ~8 weeks); AMD ≥ +1.5% → buy TSM (secondary, n=11, WR 45.5%, PF 1.346). NVDA ≥ −1.5% or AMD ≥ −1.5% → disabled-SHORT branch → no trade by rule. Index gap-framing only: QQQ 739.67 / 745.84 (range), SMA20 720.88, ATR 9.44; SPY 766.32 / 772.26 (range), SMA20 765.34, ATR 6.83. Carried data gap: the non-firing pair's first-hour value is still unrecorded on traded days (the near-miss logger writes per-pair blocking notes only on no-trade sessions), so if today fires on one pair, the other pair's proximity to ±1.5% is unmeasured, not distant — a one-line logger fix I will not touch inside a planning task.

Invalidation / no-trade reasons (all binding today):

  1. Leaders opening down ≥1.5% = the disabled-SHORT branch → no trade by rule. This is the modal outcome for a risk-off gap-down tape (10 of 49 scored sessions carry no_trade:short_disabled), and today's pre-open bias points here first.
  2. Any intraday VIX ≥ 30 closes consideration (16.40 now, 13.6 points away).
  3. A gap-down leader that keeps extending rather than stabilising in the first 25 minutes — my window needs the leader moving up; a continued decline is neither a signal nor a bounce trade. I do not buy the laggard against a falling leader on any read.
  4. Hard skip PCE Sep 30 (2 days) — not today, but today is the last full session before the skip week narrows my window; NFP Oct 2 follows.

Watch items (informational only — not entry signals):

  1. Whether the semis' decline is spent at the open or extends. This is the entire swing factor in my 0.10: a QQQ/leader gap-down that stabilises and reclaims the opening range inside the first 25 minutes is the 09-24 template (positive first-hour read → LONG fires); a gap that extends with yields still rising is the 07-24/08-19 template (short_disabled, no trade). I will read the leader's sign, not the index's level.
  2. Whether energy-vs-tech leadership holds after the open. The briefing's own condition for the momentum read — "oil and Treasury yields must hold their overnight advance after the open" — is also the condition that keeps my complex as the weak leg. If that leadership stalls and tech reclaims, my window opens; if it holds, it does not.
  3. The leader-vs-basket residual, again the discriminator. On the 09-21/09-24 fires AMD's first-hour return net of basket was purely idiosyncratic (+3.36pp / +2.28pp vs SMH), while 09-22's win was sector beta (+0.08pp vs SOXX). Leader width does not separate outcomes at n=13 (the book's widest clear, +4.74%, lost). A broad complex bid riding the basket remains the stand-down shape; a leader-specific impulse is the confirming one. This is a read, never a trade trigger, and it is the same discriminator the split-honest read forces me to keep using rather than trusting the size of the clear.

Desk book state (carries forward, unchanged by today's plan). Cumulative +$566.45 across 13 LONG trades, 7W/6L, WR 53.8%, gross PF 1.648; SPRT n=13, LLR +0.976, CONTINUE (+1.969 to CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST, −3.920 to DEGRADED). NVDA→ASML 2W/0L, +$264.42 — the edge-carrying cell, starved ~8 weeks (unseen since 08-03), which is regime-shaped, not a gate problem (VIX < 18 is my best bucket and inside it the tape is quiet). AMD→TSM n=11, WR 45.5%, PF 1.346 — above 1.0 for the first time on three consecutive wins, no recovery declared (one of the three, 09-22, is measured sector beta); the 09-05 stop-calibration diagnostic read NO and remains pending TEMPER cadence-ratification via the 2026-09 Desk Review. Rolling 6-month PF 1.648, alert OFF (instrument artifact, above). SHORT re-enablement rejected 2026-07-15 — live gate stands; the governing path (30 LONG trades at PF ≥ 1.5) is at n=13, i.e. 17 trades from even being decidable. The stand-down argument (a complex-wide AI-chip bid reprices leader and laggard on one factor) stays live and provisional; withdrawal needs AMD→TSM PF > 1.0 at n ≈ 15+ (now n=11).

Operational item (desk-top, carried): runner-health-2026-09-25 recorded delta: completed, daily artifact present, state ok, and 09-24 was CLEAR — two consecutive clean sessions after six watchdog flags in September. But the ledger-freshness post-run check is still unwired, so a clean run is being observed by me, not verified by the pipeline, and the firm-wide 09-25 verdict was REVIEW on other desks (SURGE, TRACE) for the same failure class. My 0.10 is scored against trades.csv: if the watchdog trips, no row is produced and the forecast is graded against a pipeline absence rather than a tape outcome — a REVIEW state, never a strategy stand-down and never a near-miss.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-09-28 04:45 PDT (pre-open)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes (delta — p_trade 0.10, direction long, conviction low)
  • Briefing event risk confirmed: HIGH (geopolitical/rates, not calendar — no Tier-1 today); 10:30 ET Dallas Fed (prior 11.6) + T-bill auctions only; next hard skip PCE Sep 30 (2 days), then NFP Oct 2, CPI Oct 14, FOMC Oct 28; VIX 16.40 LOW (<18), up 1.53 vs prior close 14.87; SPY 771.35 / SMA20 765.34 / ATR 6.83 / range 766.32–772.26; QQQ 744.44 / SMA20 720.88 / ATR 9.44 / range 739.67–745.84; gap-down bias led by rate-sensitive growth, oil and long-end yields up after the weekend Iran/Hormuz breakdown; firm-wide GO; regular Monday session
  • Verdict: Setup present unlikely — p_trade 0.10, direction long, conviction low. The pre-open state assigns my complex to the weak leg of a headline-driven, yield-and-oil-pressured, gap-down tape, which is the shape that produces my disabled-SHORT (untradeable) branch far more often than a LONG clear: firing requires a leader up ≥ +1.5% off the 09:30 print against that backdrop. Two named upside routes justify pricing at the top edge of my 0.00–0.10 bucket (realized 0.000 on 12 days, i.e. I am deliberately above it): the mirror pre-consumed gap (a gap-down leader whose decline is spent at the open printing a positive first-hour read — the 09-24 case, +2.56% → +$406.84) and a two-sided Iran headline flipping oil/yields/tech inside my window. Standard 0.75% sizing, no parameter adjusted; hard 15:30 flat and 2.0× ATR(14, 5-min) stop bound all exposure inside the session. Binding gate = leader first-hour return at 09:55 vs ±1.5%; modal no-trade path = leader ≤ −1.5% → disabled-SHORT (10 of 49 scored sessions). Documented data gap: no instrument-level pre-market print for NVDA/ASML/AMD/TSM in either firm input (watchlist movers and the QQQ 737.83 snapshot are unverified/stale and adopted as no level) — the gap size is therefore confirmed at the cash open, not priced pre-open.
