Desk Plan — House Vesper — 2026-09-24

Regime Watch

Read data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY), file refreshed 2026-09-23 21:25 ET, status: ok. as_of 2026-09-22 — one session behind today (09-23 not yet rolled in); treated as available-with-lag, not stale/missing, and flagged as such rather than substituted. Values: spy_day flat, spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08, spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (spy_drawdown_pct −0.58), spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, vix 14.21, vix_regime LOW (<18).

  • Which of my charter's indicators are moving: none. All three (spy_drawdown_bucket, vix_regime, spy_vs_sma50) sit in the same state as the last read. Today's live briefing is consistent with the lagged file: VIX 16.13 (up 0.95 off 15.18, still LOW <18), SPY 767.93 prior close above its 20-day SMA 765.26 (≈0.35% above), no drawdown of 5% or more anywhere on the board.
  • Consistency with the ## Regime Charter: consistent. The charter's own persistence rule — drawdown bucket 5-10% or worse, or non-LOW VIX, for five consecutive sessions — is at 0 of 5; the VIX tick-up to 16.13 is one non-persistent print inside the LOW band, and the <2% drawdown bucket is the bucket in which the backtest's overnight premium was +3.00 net bps (N=715). Nothing here proposes a recalibration, a sit-out or a new mechanism.
  • Charter status, stated plainly so it is not over-read: DRAFT — not ratified (desks/house-vesper/CLAUDE.md). Today is held to its drafted terms; it is not yet a ratified constraint, and no regime signal changes posture here by itself.
  • Sizing in tail terms (filed 2026-09-24, per the 2026-09-23 peer review — House Slack's critique, disposition acted). Slack was right that I had never derived the tolerance; −11.4% (2022) and −26.5% (COVID) are drawdown accounts, not a single-night tail figure. From the cleared backtest ledger (backtest_2026-07-12_daily.csv, N=1,759 cycles): worst historical overnight gap = 2020-03-13 → 2020-03-16, gross −1,102.97 bps (net −1,103.97 at the 1.0 bps cost); at 0.90 notional that is −9.93% of equity in one night. Next worst: −700.44 (2020-03-06→09), −649.69 (2020-03-11→12), −532.39 (2020-03-17→18), −410.50 (2024-08-02→05, the yen-carry unwind). Cross-checked against strategy_v1.md's stated tolerance: a −5% gap costs −4.5% of equity, a −10% catastrophic gap costs −9% — both survivable by construction because there is no leverage. The 90% size is a default (strategy_v2.md §Position Sizing: "why 90% and not less" is about not halving a thin edge), not derived from a tail figure; it is unchanged today and flagged for TEMPER or ZEUS rather than silently kept.
  • Watch-only. No indicator state changed; nothing in this section touches the order.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM. No Tier-1 (Bucket A clear; next PCE Sep 30, 6 days; then NFP Oct 2, FOMC Minutes Oct 7, CPI Oct 14, FOMC Oct 28). Rated off LOW by two live channels running simultaneously: (1) the long-dated yields / oil squeeze that did Wednesday's damage and has not reversed — 10-yr at its highest since 2007, 5-yr touched 5%, Brent back above $100 on a second consecutive up session; and (2) the Trump–Xi bilateral session in Washington, outcome pending — HIGH headline risk, explicitly two-sided and un-timeable, with the US reciprocal-tariff suspension lapsing Nov 10 and analysts expecting pageantry over substance. Today's own calendar is Tier-2/loud-but-light: 8:30 ET jobless claims (cons. 201K / prior 196K) + Q2 International Transactions, 10:00 New Home Sales (Aug), 11:00 KC Fed, and Costco (COST) Q4 FY2026 after the close (5:00 PM ET call). Firm-wide Scanner status GO.
  • Session character expected: Contained, two-tier, tech-led downside skew — direction explicitly unassigned. The briefing's shape is gap-down bias, tech-led, event-capped: futures lower across all three majors with the Nasdaq complex underperforming the Dow, AI/memory semis the weak leg, energy bid and the only green sector Wednesday — and it refuses to pre-assign index direction on a day whose live risk is a policy/rates/trade coin-flip. Last four sessions resolved at or inside ~1.0× ATR, so the base case is containment, not expansion. Expected sequence: the 8:30 claims / New Home Sales block sets the opening tone, then summit headlines govern the middle of the session; structure forms after the 8:30 dust settles. Explicitly noted, adopting it: do not read a quiet morning as confirmation of a clean summit outcome. Relevance to my mechanics: none — I am flat by 09:31 and never in the market while it is open. The character that matters to me is the overnight one.
  • VIX regime: 16.13 (+0.95 vs prior close 15.18) — LOW (<18), and the regime in which the overnight premium has historically accrued (HIGH-VIX bucket: +6.68 net bps, N=198). Logged by every stack that buckets it; never a gate for me (no VIX filter by design — considered and rejected in Phase 2). A methodology note on the level, not the state: 16.13 is the highest close in roughly a week and 1.95 VIX points above the regime file's 14.21 — the low-vol band is intact, but it is not the week's calmest print.
  • Key levels: SPY prior close 767.93, prior-day range 766.50–773.00, above SMA20 765.26, ATR(14) daily 6.92 — trailing ATR is not elevated, so on the briefing's own ±0.5% rule anything outside ~764.2–771.6 at the open would be a genuine gap, not noise. QQQ prior close 741.17, prior-day range 738.25–747.12, above SMA20 718.23, ATR(14) 9.49. Both legs sit above their 20-day SMAs, so the levels that matter today are yesterday's session extremes, not new volatility bands. My only levels are my own anchors: cycle 50's entry — 767.63 (Wed 09-23 16:00 auction-inclusive SIP close; 30.0902 shares, $23,098.17 notional, 90.0% of $25,664.63 equity — currently held, exiting 09:31 ET this morning) and tonight's 16:00 auction print (cycle 51's entry). The exit is temporal, not price-based. Anchor context so a few-bps gap is not misread: the 16:00 auction print (767.63) sat 3.907 bps below the consolidated close (767.93) — the designed anchor is the auction-inclusive SIP bar, not the reported close (P27).
  • Macro backdrop: A hawkish-Fed / high-yields regime with a live inflation transmission channel and a pending trade outcome — Chair Warsh hiked Sep 16 (first since 2023), the long end sits at multi-decade highs with October priced near a coin flip, the dollar is firm near eight-week highs, gold/silver are lower as real yields rise, oil is back above $100, and the summit's result is pending. Two prints now carry more weight than their tier implies: claims (Gov. Barr said Wednesday that labour risks have receded while inflation risks have increased, so a soft claims number reads as permission for more hikes and a hot one as the first crack in the hawkish case) and Costco after the close (the consumer's read on oil-driven input inflation).
  • The overnight window's own inventory (the only character I trade), both legs: Cycle 50's leg (Wed 16:00 → this morning's 09:31) carried the Xi-arrival evening, Meta Connect at 7:00 PM ET, the Asia/Europe session ahead of the bilateral, and Thursday's 8:30 ET claims + New Home Sales ~61 minutes before my exit anchor — a genuinely populated complement. Cycle 51's leg (tonight 16:00 → Fri 09:31) is again populated: Costco's Q4 print and 5:00 PM ET call land after my entry, the summit's outcome — or its state dinner and the overnight Asia/Europe reaction — is still pending, and Friday's 8:30 ET Advance Durable Goods + Michigan final print ~61 minutes before my exit. That is the honest basis for tonight's med conviction: a description of the width of the two-sided tail, not a size instruction and not a skip.

vesper — SPY (PM: VESPER)

Forecast: p_trade 1.0, direction long, conviction med.

Cycle state, stated explicitly because it is the load-bearing detail: I exit this morning's overnight position at the open and re-enter at today's MOC — no hold of mine spans the weekend. Cycle 50 (Wed 09-23 16:00 entry 767.63, 30.0902 shares, $23,098.17 notional, 90.0% of $25,664.63 equity) exits at today's 09:31 bar open — a real long trade booked today, which is why p_trade is 1.0 and not a judgment call. At 15:50 ET tonight I submit the MOC buy for cycle 51 at today's 16:00 auction-inclusive close, 90% of post-exit equity, held into Fri 09-25 09:31 — an ordinary Thursday→Friday carry. The weekend-spanning hold is Friday's cycle 52 (Fri 16:00 → Mon 09:31), not today's business; nothing I do today is held across a weekend.

On conviction, stated plainly so it cannot be misread as a skip or a de-risk: VESPER has no signal gate, no event filter and no skip logic — the overnight hold is taken every session, so p_trade is 1.0 by construction both legs. The med is not doubt about whether the trade happens (that is certain) and it is not permission to size down: it is the honest ex-ante discount on the width of tonight's two-sided tail, earned on the same grounds as yesterday's and not on yesterday's outcome. The meds this desk has used — six of 45 prior plans (09-11 CPI carry, the 09-14/15/16 FOMC sequence, 09-22, 09-23) — were all nights whose complement of the trading day was genuinely populated; every macro-silent night has been high. Tonight qualifies: Friday's 8:30 ET Advance Durable Goods + Michigan final print inside the hold, Costco Q4 after the close (a consumer read-through that arrives post-entry), and a summit whose outcome is still pending — a resolution headline is un-timeable and moves either way, and the tape's tech-led weak leg is the leg a hawkish rates read presses hardest. A 16.13 VIX (off 15.18) and a genuinely two-sided headline channel are what a wider tail looks like; a wider tail is what the premium is paid for, not something to hedge by fiat.

Cycle 50's own resolution belongs to this morning, and its content was as advertised. It was held at standard 90% into a populated night — Meta Connect, the Xi arrival, and claims + New Home Sales 61 minutes before the exit — and whatever the 09:31 print shows, it is logged as one draw, not a finding. An unconditional stack has no elegant story about a single night; my mean over 49 completed cycles is +6.0544 net bps/day (SD 48.356, SE 6.908 → ~0.42 SE above the 3.151 replication anchor) with a realized net range of −122.77 to +114.89 bps and a win rate of 57.1% (28/49) — not my benchmark, by design: WR on a drift edge is a coin flip.

  • Setup present: Yes — by design, always. There is no setup to wait for and no condition that would suppress one. Both legs answered unconditionally at the standard anchors.
  • Session-character fit: Perfect by construction — the stack is never in the market while it is open, so today's gap-down-tech-led opening skew, the 8:30 claims dust, and the mid-session summit headline window cannot touch me. Flat by 09:31. The character that matters is the overnight one, read above.
  • What today's MEDIUM changes about the order: nothing. No event-calendar skip (considered and rejected in Phase 2, strategy_v2.md §Entry Rules 5), no conditioned sizing, no direction flip, no early entry, no skip (rules 4 & 5). Any conditioning would have to first beat the unconditional baseline in a Bench study — none exists — without destroying the ~250 obs/yr validation velocity. The cleared sample (n=1,759) held every FOMC, CPI, NFP, PCE, expiry and rebalance night by construction. Tonight is an ordinary draw from the same distribution, and the risk is the premium.

Monitors check (direct run — run live for this plan, 2026-09-24):

  • Mechanism watch: GREEN — n=2,190 overnight pairs, last exit 2026-09-23; trailing-250 +6.308 bps/day, trailing-500 +4.178 bps/day vs the 0.655 kill floor (~9.6× / ~6.4× above); full-sample +4.106. ==> OK: premium intact. No DEGRADED flag. Cycle 49's −13.32 gross night moved the trailing windows toward the floor by a hair (+6.414 → +6.308; +4.240 → +4.178) and left them roughly an order of magnitude clear. Stated so the read is not over-read (filed per the 2026-09-23 peer review, Reversal/Wicker, disposition acted): +6.308 is not "the premium." The full-sample mean is +4.106 and my live 49-cycle mean is +6.054; the honest expectation is reversion toward ~4 bps/day, and either one of those windows could fall back toward it without the mechanism being impaired. The kill floor sits ~9.6× below.
  • Early-warning tier — evidence attached, proposal only, floor untouched (Wicker's second point, disposition investigating, advanced one step here). Wicker was right that a hard floor with no expectation band cannot flag a decay from +6.4 to +2.0. I computed the in-sample distribution of trailing-250 before proposing any N (backtest_2026-07-12_daily.csv, 1,510 trailing windows off 1,759 cycles): median +3.578, p10 −2.314, p5 −3.126, p1 −5.155, min −8.201, max +20.668. Critically, 45.2% (682/1,510) of in-sample windows sat below the 3.151 anchor, in 22 runs whose lengths were [1, 4, 5, 30, 6, 2, 3, 2, 18, 108, 1, 1, 9, 9, 1, 5, 14, 1, 10, 16, 432, 4]. So "trailing-250 below the anchor for N consecutive sessions" with N ≤ 28 (the p90 run) would have fired routinely inside the validated sample and flagged behaviour the strategy is cleared to endure — the same error the old −18% review trigger made. The only runs above 30 are 108 and 432, both in the 2021-22 stretch. My read: if this tier is worth having, N must be set well above the observed p90 run (order 60-100+), and it would then have flagged essentially the 2022 regime alone. Filed to TEMPER with this distribution attached; nothing here changes the kill rule, the floor, or any gate. No alert today: +6.308 is ~2.0× the anchor.
  • Execution-cost SPRT: CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST (sticky since obs #8, 2026-07-27; flagged: []), n=49, LLR +18.375. Simulation only — fills price at the anchors, shortfall ≡ 0; decision-relevant only against real broker fills. No realized-cost breach on record: cycle 49 realized 0.9988 bps against the ≤ 1.0 bps/day budget, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0. Cycle 50's exit rolls in at today's 16:30 ET refresh.
  • Edge SPRT: CONTINUE — formal-only; cannot decide at realistic samples (~18.6 yr). CONTINUE is not evidence of edge, and that honesty label cuts against reading any single night — mine included, and now including the last four at the identical 90% — as evidence of anything.
  • Plan calibration, cited correctly this time: 45 scored sessions (intelligence/plan-calibration.csv, all rows p_trade 1.0 / long / Brier 0.0). Per the 2026-09-23 peer review (House Slack and Reversal, both independently), that perfect Brier is vacuous for an unconditional stack — p_trade is 1.0 by construction, so the desk cannot miss. It is no longer cited here as evidence of calibration or skill. The scored-session count is the only information in it.

Continuity note for the desk record: 49 completed cycles, cumulative net +$664.63 (gross +$776.22, commissions $111.58), mean +6.0544 net bps/day. Recent cycle outcomes: 44 +23.55 / 45 +114.89 (record win) / 46 −18.31 / 47 +127.70 / 48 +23.38 (+10.12 net bps) / 49 −33.11 net (−14.32 net bps). Cycle 50 (Wed 09-23 16:00 entry 767.63 → Thu 09-24 09:31) exits 09:31 ET this morning, and cycle 51 enters tonight at standard 90% into a Thursday→Friday carry. The 08-07 dispatch hole and the 09-02 reflection gap remain the only record gaps.

Invalidation: None structural. An unconditional strategy has no invalidation condition by design. The kill discipline is the mechanism watch on market data (trailing-250 and trailing-500 < 0.655 bps/day gross → TEMPER review), checked daily, not resolvable intra-session, and not conditional on claims, New Home Sales, Costco, the summit, oil, the Fed, the 10-yr or the semis. Tonight's cycle 51 has no skip trigger by design (rules 4 & 5) — it carries today's close regardless of what the summit lays down or what Friday's 8:30 releases do to the tape. If Friday's 09:31 open gaps against cycle 51, I take and log it; that is the price of the premium. A 2022-regime drawdown (≈ −11.4% on equity at 0.9 notional) is within tolerance and is not a kill signal; the −26.5% COVID drawdown (2020-02-12 → 2020-03-23, 8-month recovery) is inside the validated sample; the worst single night in that sample cost −9.93% of equity at today's 90% (tail-terms line, Regime Watch). The only stand-downs are force-majeure (closing-auction failure, account/regulatory constraint, exchange halt) — none indicated.

What I am watching: (1) Cycle 50's 09:31 exit print vs entry 767.63 — the Wednesday-close carry, resolved on a pre-market of gap-down, tech-led futures with the summit pending; no pre-assigned direction, either branch is one observation, not a finding. (2) Tonight's 16:00 auction print for cycle 51 — the anchor itself, landing after the session's summit headline window and just before Costco's print; entered at standard 90% unconditionally. The only mechanical risk is a failed or erratic closing auction (a force-majeure stand-down class), not the price it prints. (3) Friday's 8:30 ET Durable Goods + Michigan final, inside my hold — printing ~61 minutes before my exit anchor, the single most concrete new exposure on tonight's leg. (4) The summit outcome and Costco after the close — both post-entry events, un-timeable, two-sided; a resolution or a consumer miss travels straight through my window in either direction. (5) The mechanism watch stays GREEN (trailing-250 +6.308 / −500 +4.178 vs 0.655 bps/day, ~9.6× / ~6.4× above) — the only number that can ever stop me, and the number I expect to revert toward ~4 rather than hold at 6.3. After 09:31, flat and idle until 15:50 — doing exactly nothing, which is the discipline.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-09-24 04:47 PDT
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes (vesper: p_trade 1.0, direction long, conviction med)
  • Cycle state: cycle 50 exits at this morning's 09:31 open; cycle 51 enters at tonight's 16:00 auction close at standard 90%; no hold spans the weekend (the weekend-spanning leg is Friday's cycle 52)
  • Mechanism watch confirms premium intact: yes — direct run 2026-09-24: trailing-250 +6.308 / trailing-500 +4.178 bps/day vs the 0.655 kill threshold (n=2,190 pairs, last exit 2026-09-23; full-sample +4.106) — GREEN, no DEGRADED flag; expected reversion toward ~4 stated, early-warning tier filed to TEMPER with the in-sample trailing-250 distribution (median +3.578; 45.2% of windows below the 3.151 anchor; longest run 432 sessions) and no floor change
  • Cost budget confirmed: no realized-cost breach; execution-cost SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST (n=49, LLR +18.375, flagged: []), edge SPRT CONTINUE (formal-only); cycle 49 realized round-trip 0.9988 bps, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0
  • Event risk today: MEDIUM — no Tier-1 (next PCE Sep 30, 6 days); live channels are the yields/oil squeeze and the pending Trump–Xi bilateral. Firm-wide Scanner GO; VESPER's cadence is unconditional and overrides the framing — the overnight hold is taken every session, size unchanged at 90%
  • Regime watch: data-infra/regime/current.json read (status: ok, as_of 2026-09-22, one session behind — available-with-lag, flagged not substituted): drawdown bucket <2%, VIX regime LOW, SPY above 50d. None of the charter's indicators moving; persistence rule at 0 of 5; plan consistent with the drafted charter (DRAFT — not ratified); sizing stated in tail terms (worst historical night −1,102.97 gross bps = −9.93% of equity at 0.9) with the 90% default flagged for TEMPER/ZEUS
  • Peer-review dispositions carried into this plan: tail-terms sizing line (added); vacuous Brier no longer cited as calibration (done); stale "desk-blind" line (dropped); early-warning tier advanced with a computed N basis, no floor change (filed to TEMPER)

House Vesper — Desk Reflection — 2026-09-24

Plan reference: desks/house-vesper/plans/2026-09-24-plan.md EOD briefing: dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-24-eod.md PM: VESPER — the evening star, the first light after the close.

What Happened (desk level)

One desk, one member, one unconditional overnight stack. Single-session window since the 09-23 filing. Cycle 50 — the ordinary Wednesday→Thursday carry I entered Wed 09-23 16:00 at the auction-inclusive anchor 767.63 ($23,098.17 notional, 30.0902 shares, 90.0% of $25,664.63) — resolved this morning as a LOSS: exit print 763.935 at the 09:31 bar open, −$111.18 gross / −$113.49 net (−48.1352 gross / −49.1352 net bps), commission $2.31 = 1.0001 bps. The trade booked a real long (the "hit"), and at −49.14 net bps it is the 7th-worst of the 50 completed cycles — the 22nd losing draw, and the second consecutive loss after cycle 49's −14.32.

The sharpest content of this session is the mirror image of yesterday's, and it is the honest half of the temporal-exit account. Cycle 50's exit (763.935 at 09:31) landed −0.0164% versus the day's open (764.06) — essentially on the open — $0.685 above the session low (763.25, printed inside the first quarter-hour) and −0.4373% BELOW the eventual close (767.29). Yesterday the exit sat +0.5964% above the close and preserved the day's give-back; today the exit sat at the session's low point and the trading day then bought the gap back (SPY +0.42% off the open, QQQ +0.81% off its open, both settling to roughly flat: SPY −0.08%, QQQ −0.01%). The overnight leg itself carried the Xi summit evening (truce extended two months to Jan 10), the post-close Meta Connect keynote, the Asia/Europe session before the bilateral, and Thursday's 8:30 ET releases inside the hold ~61 minutes before my exit (claims 197K vs 201K cons.; New Home Sales 684K vs ~615K cons., a strong beat). The gap-down open came from the yield/oil squeeze the briefing named — 10-yr ~5.12%, 30-yr at its 2004-era high, Brent back above $100 — and the afternoon's Reuters Hormuz phased-deal report plus dip-buying is what carried the recovery that happened entirely after my exit. The move I missed today is the move I was structurally flat for, in the other direction. Stated once, without a strategy implication: a hold-to-the-consolidated-close variant would have exited 767.29 for about −4.43 bps gross (−5.43 net) instead of −49.14 — 43.7 bps better on this night, and 59.6 bps worse on the previous one. That sign flip across two consecutive sessions is not a finding about either exit rule; it is what a two-sided draw looks like, and it is why my exit is defined by the clock (P27, 09:31 bar open) and not by the day's path.

Cycle 51 then opened at tonight's 16:00 anchor — the ordinary Thursday→Friday carry. Entry 767.09 at the 16:00 auction-inclusive SIP print, $22,996.03 notional (29.9783 shares, 90.0% of post-exit equity $25,551.14), held into Fri 09-25 09:31, at standard size, unconditionally (rules 4 & 5) — no skip, no sized-down de-risk, no special handling of a second consecutive loss. Anchor coherence note, filed so it is not re-derived as a discrepancy: tonight's 16:00 auction-inclusive print (767.09) sits 2.607 bps BELOW the EOD's consolidated SPY close (767.29) — the same sign and the same class of few-bps gap as the 09-22 (1.29 bps above) and 09-23 (3.907 bps below) prints. That is the designed anchor (P27): I trade the auction-inclusive 16:00 SIP bar, not the reported consolidated close. The anchor printed clean; the only stand-down class (a failed or erratic closing auction) did not occur.

Continuity for the desk record: 50 completed cycles, cumulative net +$551.14 (gross +$665.04, commissions $113.89), mean +4.9506 net bps/day vs the 3.151 anchor (SD 48.492, SE 6.858 → ~0.26 SE above), win rate 56.0% (28/50) — not the benchmark. Realized net range to date: −122.77 to +114.89 bps (unchanged — cycle 50 lands inside it). Cycle 50's −49.14 net bps pulled the realized mean from +6.0544 (n=49) to +4.9506 (n=50) and the win rate from 57.1% to 56.0% — the single largest one-cycle step in the realized mean this phase (−1.10 bps/day), and the pre-registered oscillation continuing on the loss side. Plan calibration: the 09-24 row is already scored clean (plan-calibration.csv: p_trade 1.0 → traded 1, direction long → long hit, Brier 0.0), the 46th scored session, all at Brier 0.0. Per the 2026-09-23 peer-review disposition this Brier is no longer cited as evidence of calibration (vacuous for an unconditional stack); the scored-session count is the only information in it. The 09-02 reflection gap and the 08-07 dispatch hole remain the only record gaps.

The Load-Bearing Question: What Was the Binding Gate This Period?

No gate bound this period — neither regime nor calibration in the terms the question defines them — and the one distance that did register a value printed at its boundary by construction, not by measurement. For an unconditional stack there is no setup gate to bind and no threshold to graze: the blocked= near-miss notes are empty by construction, always, and no p_trade gate was ever under consideration (p_trade 1.0, direction long, by design). Cycle 50's −49.14 net bps is an ordinary two-sided draw on the losing side, taken identically to the way the record win (+114.89) and every win around it were taken — one trade, standard 90%, no skip.

  • Mechanism watch (the only gate that can ever stop this desk) — direct run filed for this reflection (2026-09-24): GREEN, n=2191 overnight pairs, last exit 2026-09-24; trailing-250 +6.356 / trailing-500 +4.071 bps/day gross vs the 0.655 floor (~9.7× / ~6.2× above), full-sample +4.082. ==> OK: premium intact. No DEGRADED flag, nothing appended to monitor-flags.md, no TEMPER review. The two-window condition (P12) is not close: both windows would have to fall below 0.655. Cycle 50's −48.14 gross night moved the three statistics in different directions: trailing-250 rose (+6.308 → +6.356, a worse observation rolled out of the 250-session window), while trailing-500 fell (+4.178 → +4.071) and full-sample fell (+4.106 → +4.082). That is worth stating plainly: the trailing numbers are as much a window-roll artifact as they are a reading on tonight's draw — a loss can lift the trailing-250 and a win can leave it flat. The only thing that matters about the margin is its size, and it remains roughly an order of magnitude clear of the floor. One bad night does not threaten a kill gate that sits ~9.7× / 6.2× away.
  • Realized-cost check (the pre-registered execution budget, ≤ 1.0 bps/day round-trip) — printed at the budget: commission $2.31 on $23,098.17 notional = 1.0001 bps; the gross→net bps step is exactly 1.0000; roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0000. To four decimals this is at the ≤ 1.0 bps budget, not comfortably under it, and it is the highest print of the last eight cycles (0.9988 on 09-23, 1.0001 today). The honest structural note — this is the finding I am flagging this period, desk-scoped, in Learnings below: the check is arithmetically fixed at ≈1.0 bps by the simulator, not measured. agents/vesper/paper_trade.py L221 charges COST_BPS/1e4 × notional with COST_BPS = 1.0, so the daily cost line prints ≈1.0 bps of notional by construction (across all 50 cycles: min 0.9979, max 1.0021, mean 0.9999 — the ±0.002 spread is cent-rounding in the stored commission, nothing else), and shortfall is ≡ 0 because every fill prices at the anchor. In simulation the realized-cost distance cannot bind. It is decision-relevant only against real broker fills — the same honesty label the desk already carries for the execution-cost SPRT, and the same class as the "vacuous Brier" critique the desk accepted on 09-23. No realized-cost failure to fix — but no independent cost evidence either; stated rather than dressed up as a pass. No gate change, no re-sizing, and no unilateral tweak to the cost model (that is a TEMPER/ZEUS question if it is anything).
  • Execution-cost Gaussian SPRT (decision-capable — decision-relevant only against real broker fills): CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST, n=50, LLR +18.750 (sticky since obs #8, 2026-07-27), flagged: []. Simulation only — fills price at the anchors, shortfall ≡ 0.
  • Edge Gaussian SPRT (formal-only): CONTINUE, n=50, LLR +0.068, E[N] ≈ 4655.9 obs (~18.6 yr). CONTINUE is not evidence of edge — and that honesty label cuts against reading today's −49.14 as evidence of decay exactly as hard as it cut against reading the record +114.89 as evidence of edge.

Were the pre-registered kill/watch distances right for the session? Yes — and the session is a clean test of which distance is load-bearing, in the opposite direction to yesterday's. The plan pre-registered exactly two distances: the realized-cost budget (≤ 1.0 bps/day) and the mechanism-watch kill floor (trailing-250 and trailing-500 gross < 0.655 → TEMPER review), and it deliberately pre-registered no price-based watch — the exit is temporal, not price-based. Both were correct for the session: the kill distance was never within 6× of binding, and the cost distance was hit exactly — which, per the flag above, is what it does every session. The session also re-demonstrated why a price watch is the wrong instrument for this stack, from the other side: a stop or a "sell the close" rule would have exited better tonight (767.29 vs my 763.935). Yesterday the same rule would have exited worse by 0.60%. The distance that mattered today was again the temporal one — 09:31 versus 16:00 — and it is evaluated over 250 observations, not over whichever sign the last two nights happened to take.

The one honest calibration note, logged so it is not re-litigated as hindsight. The plan's med conviction was the ex-ante statement that tonight's two-sided tail was wider than a macro-silent LOW-VIX night, earned on Friday's 8:30 ET Durable Goods + Michigan final printing inside the hold, Costco Q4 after the close, and a summit whose outcome was still pending at entry. It was not a weak directional call, not a skip, and not permission to size down, and nothing about it changed the order. Cycle 50's loss was set before any of tonight's named content existed — it was a Wednesday-close carry into a night whose own inventory (Meta Connect, the Asia/Europe session, the 8:30 claims/New Home Sales block) resolved as a gap-down open that the trading day then bought back. The med's tail belongs to cycle 51, still open; its resolution tomorrow is one observation, not a finding — and two consecutive losses at the identical standard 90%, after four wins at the identical standard 90%, are still one arc, not a signal.

Regime Watch

Read data-infra/regime/current.json (ASSAY), file refreshed 2026-09-23 21:25 ET, status: ok; as_of 2026-09-22 — one session behind today; treated as available-with-lag and flagged, not substituted for. Values: spy_day flat (spy_open_to_close_pct −0.08), spy_drawdown_bucket <2% (spy_drawdown_pct −0.58), spy_vs_sma50 above 50d, vix 14.21, vix_regime LOW (<18). None of the three charter indicators (spy_drawdown_bucket, vix_regime, spy_vs_sma50) is moving, and today's live briefing is consistent with the lagged file: SPY closed 767.29, above its 20-day SMA 765.33; VIX 15.67 (+0.49 vs 15.18), still squarely LOW; no drawdown of 5% or more anywhere on the board. The charter's persistence rule is at 0 of 5 sessions, and <2% is the bucket in which the cleared backtest's overnight premium was +3.00 net bps (N=715). Charter status: DRAFT — not ratified (desks/house-vesper/CLAUDE.md) — I am held to its drafted terms, not a ratified constraint. Today's plan was consistent with it; watch and report only, nothing here changes posture.

Plan Accuracy (desk level)

DimensionRating (1–5)Notes
Event risk call4MEDIUM held. No Tier-1 (next PCE Sep 30, 6 days), and the plan named the two live channels precisely: the long-dated yields / oil squeeze (10-yr ~5.12%, 30-yr at its 2004-era high, Brent back above $100 — the exact squeeze that gapped the tape down) and the Trump–Xi bilateral, outcome pending, with its base case written as "signal of extension, not a settlement." Both printed as written: claims 197K (cons. 201K) and New Home Sales 684K (cons. ~615K) inside my hold, and Bessent's two-month truce extension to Jan 10 — pageantry, not settlement, moving nothing. One honest deduction, the same shape as yesterday's: like the AM briefing, I carried the Hormuz thread as part of the summit frame and did not name the Reuters phased-deal report as a standalone same-day catalyst — and that report, plus dip-buying, is what carried the afternoon's recovery (after my exit). Rated correctly, ranked imperfectly, again
Session character call4My character read — "contained, two-tier, tech-led downside skew, direction explicitly unassigned" — was mostly right and one leg wrong, in the same place as everyone else's. Containment held exactly: SPY true range 5.70 = 0.85× ATR(14), a sub-ATR session, VIX 15.67 LOW. The gap-down bias was right (SPY opened −0.50%). The direction refusal was right (the day resolved −0.08%, essentially flat). The pre-assigned tier polarity inverted for the second consecutive session — I carried the AM's "tech is the weak leg" and the Nasdaq was the best major (QQQ −0.01% vs Dow −0.31%), exactly as the EOD's PARTIAL grading finds. No cost to me: my only character surface is the overnight leg, and it took the gap-down open — which is the one part of the call that did not invert
Setup prediction5Unconditional — the only forecast is exit/entry placement, and both landed exactly where pre-registered: cycle 50 exited the 09:31 bar open at 763.935, and cycle 51 entered 767.09 at the 16:00 auction-inclusive close at standard 90% size ($22,996.03 notional / 29.9783 shares), held into Fri 09-25 09:31 — no skip, no conditioned sizing
Adjustments5None made — 90% notional, 16:00 auction-inclusive anchor, 09:31 exit, all standard. Sixth consecutive session of the same discipline with no drift: +114.89, −18.31, +55.54, +10.12, −14.32, −49.14 net bps — no de-risk "off a win," no re-size "after a loss," no special handling of the med conviction, and no reaction to the second consecutive loss. Cost realized 1.0001 bps — at the ≤ 1.0 bps/day budget line (see the flag in Learnings: it prints there by construction), roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0. No stand-down condition indicated

Overall plan accuracy: 4.5 / 5. Machine-scored: the 09-24 plan forecast p_trade 1.0 / long / med; cycle 50's exit booked a real long trade today (traded = 1), direction long → long hit — Brier 0.0, extending the perfect scored run to 46 sessions (plan-calibration.csv line: 2026-09-24,house-vesper,vesper,1.0,long,med,1,1,long,1,0.0). The scoring subtlety, restated for the third time: "direction hit" means the booked trade was long, as forecast — the score does NOT care that the long lost money, any more than it cared on the winning days. Calibration captures setup-firing fidelity, trivially perfect for an unconditional stack by design.

Learnings (desk level)

  • The temporal exit's sign versus the close flipped across two consecutive sessions (+59.6 bps preserved on 09-23, −43.7 bps forgone on 09-24) — which is the argument for a clock-based exit, not against it. Cycle 50's 09:31 print (763.935) landed essentially on the day's open (764.06, −0.0164%) and $0.685 above the session low (763.25, printed in the first quarter-hour), while the tape then recovered +0.42% off the open to close at 767.29. A "sell the close" variant is 43.7 bps better tonight and was 59.6 bps worse last night. Filed once as desk-record color; no strategy implication (rules 4 & 5 untouched, no conditional exit contemplated, and any such proposal would have to beat the unconditional baseline in a Bench study first).
  • [x] Flag for learnings.md (desk-scoped): the realized-cost check cannot bind in simulation — it is arithmetic, not measurement. agents/vesper/paper_trade.py L221 charges cost = COST_BPS/1e4 × notional with COST_BPS = 1.0, so every cycle's realized round-trip cost prints ≈1.0 bps of entry notional by construction (50 cycles: min 0.9979, max 1.0021, mean 0.9999; the ±0.002 spread is cent-rounding in the stored commission column) and roundtrip_shortfall_bps is ≡ 0.0000 because every fill is priced at the anchor. Today's print of 1.0001 bps therefore sits "at the ≤ 1.0 bps budget" for the same reason it sat at 0.9988 yesterday: the number is the cost model, not an execution result. This desk's pre-registered realized-cost distance is decision-relevant only against real broker fills — the same honesty label already carried by the execution-cost Gaussian SPRT — and it is the same class as the vacuous-Brier critique this desk accepted from the 2026-09-23 peer review. Requested disposition, never applied unilaterally: cite the line going forward as "no realized-cost failure to fix; no independent cost evidence in simulation" rather than as a check that passed, or give it a real-fill source before it is described as binding. No change to the cost constant, the budget, or any gate by this desk.
  • One small loss moved the three mechanism-watch statistics in three different directions, and the trailing-250 went UP. Cycle 50's −48.14 gross night took trailing-250 from +6.308 to +6.356 (a worse observation rolled out of the window), trailing-500 from +4.178 to +4.071, and full-sample from +4.106 to +4.082. The kill discipline is measured on market data, never on the night's P&L (rule 4), and the market data says premium intact — but the entry also says the trailing windows are window-roll artifacts as much as readings, so no single night, win or loss, is evidence about the mechanism, in either direction.
  • Check performed, nothing new filed beyond the item above. I checked backtest-agent/learnings.md before filing, per standing instruction. Two candidate items were examined and both declined: (1) the mechanism-watch silent-cache-fallback item (filed 2026-08-04) stays RESOLVED (2026-09-04) — today's direct run returns a live as-of-today read (n=2191, last exit 2026-09-24), so re-filing would be re-filing a closed item; (2) the EOD-generator mechanism-watch line item, last updated 2026-09-22, is unchanged today — the shared EOD desk-summary again makes no mechanism-watch assertion for this desk (a fourth consecutive omission, 09-21 through 09-24), so the eight-session false-escalation streak (09-08 through 09-18) stays broken in output. Stated honestly: the line is omitted, not corrected, and a fourth identical omission is not a new finding class. Standing convention unchanged: the direct daily run (filed each morning in the plan, and re-run for this reflection) governs; if the generator resumes asserting any mechanism-watch status for this desk, treat it as unreliable until a correctly-populated line is observed.
  • Record-keeping, self-caught, unchanged convention: the auto-generated performance/daily_2026-09-24.md again opens "No trade taken today" / Session P&L $0.00 even though its own cumulative line (n=50, +$551.14 net, WR 56.0%) correctly carries cycle 50's realized −$113.49 and reconciles to the ledger to the cent — and today's shared EOD desk-summary inherits it (VESPER | 0 (state)). On an exit day the exit leg books a real trade at 09:31 and cycle 51's position-open is a separate no_trade:position_opened row; the generator's "no trade" framing reads the open row, not the exit. Unchanged generator convention, not a new gap — the trades.csv row is the record. Also unchanged and not a data error: the perf log's SPY daily return prints N/A.
  • Operational: no runner-starvation recurrence; runner-health-2026-09-24.md verdict CLEAR (all ten runners completed). Both trades.csv rows reconcile to the ledger exactly (cycle 50 exit at 09:31:00 on 763.935; cycle 51 position-open at 767.09 / $22,996.03, open_position in state/position_ledger.json). Mechanism watch (GREEN, ~9.7× / ~6.2× floor, n=2191, live as-of today), execution-cost SPRT (CONSISTENT, n=50) and edge SPRT (CONTINUE, n=50) all ran clean.

Desk Summary (orchestrator-facing)

  • VESPER (SPY, unconditional overnight): cycle 50 — the ordinary Wed 09-23 → Thu 09-24 carry (entry 767.63, $23,098.17 notional) — exited this morning at the 09:31 bar open 763.935: a LOSS, −$111.18 gross / −$113.49 net (−48.1352 / −49.1352 bps), the 7th-worst of 50 cycles, taken at the same standard 90% as the record +114.89 and every win around it; realized cost 1.0001 bps, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0. Today the temporal exit cut the other way, and it is filed as such: the 09:31 print sat essentially on the day's open (764.06, −0.0164%) and $0.69 above the session low (763.25), −0.4373% BELOW the eventual close (767.29) — the gap-down open (yield/oil squeeze: 10-yr ~5.12%, Brent >$100) was bought back all day (SPY +0.42% off the open, QQQ +0.81% off its, both settling ~flat) and the afternoon's Reuters Hormuz phased-deal report did the rescuing, entirely while I was flat. Yesterday's exit preserved 59.6 bps above the close; today's sat 43.7 bps below it — the mirror. Cycle 51 entered tonight at 767.09 ($22,996.03 notional / 29.9783 sh, 90.0% of $25,551.14 equity — the ordinary Thu→Fri carry into 09-25 09:31), held unconditionally, no skip, no sized-down de-risk (rules 4 & 5); tonight's 16:00 auction print sat 2.607 bps below the consolidated close (767.29) — the designed anchor (P27), not a discrepancy. Monitors: realized-cost 1.0001 bps, at the ≤ 1.0 bps budget line — and flagged desk-scoped as arithmetic in simulation, not measurement (see Learnings); execution-cost SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST (n=50, LLR +18.750, flagged: []); edge SPRT CONTINUE (formal-only, not evidence of edge); mechanism watch GREEN — trailing-250 +6.356 / −500 +4.071 vs the 0.655 floor (n=2191 pairs, last exit 2026-09-24; ~9.7× / ~6.2× above), full-sample +4.082, premium intact — note the 250-window ROSE on a losing night (window roll), so trailing numbers are not a clean read on the night. Cumulative +$551.14 net over 50 cycles, mean +4.9506 net bps/day vs the 3.151 anchor — ~0.26 SE above, the largest single-cycle step in the realized mean this phase (−1.10 bps/day), continuing the pre-registered oscillation (not decision-relevant). Plan calibration perfect (Brier 0.0, 46 sessions, vacuous by design). Binding gate this period: none — neither regime nor calibration; no threshold grazed → no tweak, no TEMPER conversation on any gate, and one desk-scoped learnings flag on the realized-cost check's inability to bind in simulation.
  • Watching: (1) cycle 51's Fri 09-25 09:31 exit — the ordinary Thu→Fri carry (767.09 entry, held unconditionally at standard size), whose window contains Costco's Q4 beat (EPS $6.75, comps +9.4%) and after-hours reaction, the summit/Hormuz headline flow through Asia and Europe, and Friday's 8:30 ET Advance Durable Goods + 10:00 Michigan final ~61 minutes before the exit anchor; either branch is one observation. (2) The mechanism watch — trailing-250 +6.356 / −500 +4.071 vs 0.655, the only number that can ever stop this desk, with the standing expectation of reversion toward ~4 (full-sample +4.082). (3) The realized-cost check — now flagged: it prints ~1.0 bps by construction in simulation and can only ever bind against real fills; no breach on record, no independent cost evidence either. (4) Whether the EOD generator's mechanism-watch line returns or is corrected — a fourth consecutive omission (09-21/22/23/24), already on file; the direct daily run governs. No skip by design.

Reflection Filed

  • Filed: 2026-09-24 (EOD reflection run, 15:36 PDT)
  • Desk-blind rule: peer-review access per D3-superseded; no other desk's directory read or referenced in this reflection
  • Next-session event risk (from EOD briefing tomorrow's calendar): MEDIUM — no Tier-1 within the next ~2 days (next: PCE Sep 30, 6 days, alongside the Q2 GDP third estimate and Micron's FQ4; then NFP Oct 2, FOMC Minutes Oct 7, CPI Oct 14, FOMC Oct 28), but Fri Sep 25 carries Advance Durable Goods 8:30 AM ET (cons. −0.4%) and the Michigan final 10:00 AM ET, both printing inside cycle 51's hold, with Costco's Q4 beat and its after-hours reaction landing after tonight's entry. VESPER's cadence is unaffected regardless: cycle 51 (Thu 09-24 16:00 entry 767.09 → Fri 09-25 09:31) is held unconditionally at standard 90% size (rules 4 & 5) — no skip, no sized-down de-risk, and nothing about today's −49.14 (or the four wins before the two losses) changes the size of the next trade by a single share. The weekend-spanning leg is Friday's cycle 52 (Fri 16:00 → Mon 09:31), not tonight's.
