agents/slack/state/position_ledger.json → open_position: null).Cycle phase today: no position open — day 0 of a cycle that has not started. Today is not an open day, not a hold day, and not a close day. It is a no-signal day, and today's action is: remain flat, log no_trade:no_signal.
Setup present: no. No trade expected — no cycle in flight, no exit due, and the entry leg is mechanically excluded at today's open. p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction high.
State-machine leg, stated plainly (this is the leg the desk is built to report). The ledger reads {"open_position": null}, so two of my three branches are dead on arrival: there is nothing held, therefore no hold-silently marker today, and there is nothing to close, therefore no close-and-log due. The only branch that could log a real trade is an entry at today's open, and it is gated by the run settling at the last completed close — the run ending 09-22's close, which is +0.69% (+0.6871%) against the ±4.97% flag. That is 4.28pp short — not a graze, a wide miss, and the widest side of the band (the up leg, +4.97%) is the only one anywhere near it. Today's open is closed mechanically.
What would have to happen at today's close to matter at all. An entry tomorrow (09-24's open, which would then exit 10-01's close) needs the completed run through today to cross: from 09-22's close of 287.21 against a base that rolls from 285.25 (09-15) down to 283.88 (09-16), the window's own roll already adds ~+0.48pp before a single tick of today's tape prints. A flat close (287.21) puts the reading at +1.17%. An up-flag needs a close ≥ 297.99 — a +3.75% session; a down-flag needs ≤ 269.77 — a −6.07% session. Those are not session ranges this tape produces on a calm, no-print, direction-unknown day. Note the mechanic honestly, and it is the lesson I have been restating since 09-11: the reading moves on window composition, not on the day's own move — a large session rolling off the back has travelled it 2–3pp on a sub-1% tape (the 09-16 FOMC reading deepened ~0.5pp off the roll alone). So I bound the roll, not just the level. Even so, neither composition path reaches ±4.97% from +0.69% in one session. My call: no flag settles at today's close.
Sizing vs. event risk: nothing to size today, and no override exists to apply. With p_trade 0.0 there is no notional, no entry window and no exit to adjust. The locked parameters stand unchanged: 15% of equity as fixed notional (≈$3,750 on the $25K account), single position at a time, no stop-loss, no profit target, no early exit — the 5-trading-day hold is fixed, not a design choice I get to revisit. Today's MEDIUM event risk has no purchase on the size and no role in the exit (strategy_v2.md Rule 6 — no event-day override by design). Had a flag settled, MEDIUM would still leave today's behaviour unchanged: event-day entries are inside my cleared envelope, not outside it (9 of the 68 validated trades entered on an event day, 8W/1L, +$580.07 net, worst −$36.20), and the COVID-tail-calibrated 15% exists precisely for the hold-spanning class this mechanism is built to run. It is moot: I am flat because I am unflagged, not flat because I am frightened.
Session-character fit: poor, and that is exactly why nothing fires. Today's template — contained, two-tier, direction-unknown, no gap bias, VIX 14.17, no US print, a contained morning and headline chop into the close — is the extent-suppressing character that has now produced 57 consecutive logged no-signal sessions since 07-02 (07-02 → 09-22; the duplicate 08-07 row remains flagged for cleanup). My gate needs a 5-day close-to-close run of ±4.97% in IWM; a macro-silent, low-dispersion session supplies neither sustained directional extremity nor the crash-scale single-session move required to manufacture one. The briefing's own flag cuts the same way: the rate-sensitive cyclical and consumer legs are the fragile side if Barr sounds hawkish with the 10-yr at 5% — a risk to name, not a direction to pre-assign, and for me an unhelpful one either way, since a one-day rate-sensitive sell-off that reverts is not a 5-day extremity print. I want the flag; I do not expect it.
Key levels and invalidation. The binding level is the ±4.97% 5-day run threshold, full stop; every other level is context. Measured structural refs: ~$284 floor / ~$300 ceiling (20-session closes 283.88–299.87, high 300.39). A decisive break of the floor is the realistic route to a down-flag (→ contrarian long); a genuine small-cap catch-up toward $300 would raise the first live up-flag of the quarter (→ contrarian short). Invalidation for today: none applies — flat, no entry reachable, no scheduled exit, nothing held into Barr, the buyback announcement, Xi's arrival or the flash PMIs. This is regime, not calibration: a range-bound IWM makes the ±4.97% threshold structurally unreachable; TEMPER's pre-registered 2026-07-24 read holds (range-bound IWM = structurally unreachable, expected behaviour, not edge degradation). SPRT at n=0, LLR +0.000, both boundaries (±2.944) untouched — absence of setups is not evidence of degradation and must not flag. No threshold tweak, no TEMPER escalation, no strategy revision, and no unilateral change to any script.
What I'm watching: (1) the run settling at today's close — the only number that matters, gating a possible 09-24 entry — bounded through the roll: from +0.69%, the sub-threshold path is overwhelmingly the base case, and a flat close already prints +1.17%; (2) Barr at 10:05 with the 10-yr within a whisker of 5% — the one live transmission channel into the small-cap/domestic-cyclical leg and therefore the only credible route to a sharp downside print, against a threshold I have not entered in 57 sessions; (3) the AI/rate two-tier tension itself — semis at record highs while the value/cyclical leg lags means the dispersion that would build a 5-day extent in IWM specifically is being absorbed elsewhere in the tape, the same composition problem that has suppressed my reading all quarter. Secondary: oil's sixth straight decline keeps the inflation-relief bid alive, and a break back above $100 Brent would flip the whole framing.
slack: p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction high)no_trade:no_signal (blocked=run_magnitude; gating run +0.69% vs ±4.97% = 4.28pp short; flat book, no 5-day cycle in flight; next entry window = Thu 09-24's open only if today's close crosses ±4.97%, which would exit the close of 10-01)No trades taken.
