Desk Plan — House Mneme — 2026-09-22

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-22-pm.md PM: MNEME (desk-blind: this desk's own members only; GHOST stays frozen, no plan)

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM — no Tier-1 event (Bucket A clear through 09-29; next Tier-1s PCE Sep 30, NFP Oct 2, CPI Oct 14, FOMC Minutes Oct 7), and no 8:30 AM print — but two live vectors run all day. (1) A heavy hawkish-regime Fedspeak slate: Hammack 8:50 AM, Williams (permanent voter) + Barr + Paulson clustered 10:05–10:10 AM, Barkin 1:00 PM, Hammack again 2:00 PM, with the 10-yr ~4.95–4.97% and 30-yr ~5.28% already near multi-decade highs. (2) The geopolitical/diplomatic clock: Trump addresses the UN General Assembly today with a possible Iran sideline meeting, oil whipsawing two-way around $100 Brent, and the Trump–Xi summit Wednesday Sep 24. Today's only US release is the Richmond Fed Mfg Index (10:00 AM, second-tier). Firm-wide status GO — no Tier-1, VIX LOW, normal Tuesday session; neither active member hard-skips today (MNEME/TRACE blackout set = FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE only).
  • Session character expected: Contained, two-tier, direction unknown — headline-driven chop into the afternoon. Pre-market character is gap-up bias, tech-led (S&P futures up modestly, Nasdaq-100 up more, semis leading), but the durable shape is AI/tech leadership against a broad tape capped by rates and energy. Per the briefing's standing coin-flip discipline I do not pre-assign a one-day polarity: on a Fedspeak/geopolitical coin-flip day the honest call is contained, two-tier, direction unknown — the refusal, not a lean, is the posture. The briefing's own intraday implication is explicit: cleanest structure in the morning window; headline-driven chop into the afternoon.
  • VIX regime: 14.81 — LOW (<18) (−0.06 vs 14.87). LOW VIX is each active member's best-backtested regime (MNEME VIX<20 PF 2.39; TRACE VIX<20 PF 2.46). VIX is not a gate input for either stack — a LOW print on a GO day means vol does not block; structure quality does, and today's structure-quality risk is headline-driven mid-morning/afternoon chop, not vol.
  • Key levels: SPY prior close 773.52, prior range 766.04–774.89, SMA20 764.65 (well above — a change from the below-SMA20 profile of 09-18), ATR(14) 7.12 (elevated off yesterday's ~1.9× ATR move; a 1.5× ATR stop is ~10.7 index points). QQQ prior close 741.41, range 727.84–743.22, SMA20 714.65 (above), ATR(14) 9.50 (~2.3× ATR day yesterday). DIA is not in the briefing's price block — TRACE reads it from its own path (09-21 entry 517.24; prior fires 514.97 on 09-18). Cross-asset: Brent two-way around $100 (Hormuz-reopening headlines vs Trump's Iran warnings), 10-yr ~4.95–4.97%, 30-yr ~5.28%, USD/JPY ~157.7 (soft yen, BOJ hike read as not hawkish enough).
  • Macro backdrop: A macro-silent Tuesday whose tape is set by a resurgent AI-optimism bid carried from Monday's tech-led rally (Meta Muse read-through lifting the AI/chip complex), against a broad tape held back by oil back above $100 and long-end yields near multi-decade highs — with the whole session exposed to Fedspeak and UNGA/oil headlines.
The desk-level structural read — a favorable shape with a headline-clock hazard sitting inside the exact window TRACE trades

Yesterday (09-21) was a genuinely big, high-fidelity trending-up, tech-led day (SPY +1.56%, QQQ +2.78%, both 1.9–2.3× ATR) on which TRACE fired Window A and won (vote 80%, max_sim 0.9318, HARD_FLAT +$185.60) and MNEME stood down on the vote gate (best read C:60% vs 62%). The 09-21 reflection's own conclusion is the one I carry into today: both members' gates are regime-correct and behaved per design; this desk's recurring, documented error is planning-level — it persistently under-forecasts fire probability on GO / LOW-VIX / no-Tier-1 days. That error is now on record twice (09-18: 0.20/0.12 → both fired, Brier 0.64/0.7744; 09-21: TRACE 0.18 → fired, Brier 0.6724). I am not repeating it a third time. Three specific things frame today:

  1. The macro shape is the same GO / LOW-VIX / no-Tier-1 configuration, and it is the second consecutive tech-led gap-up morning. The 06-22 rebalance-diffusion learning was explicitly re-scoped on 09-21 to be conditional on the absence of a live directional catalyst — and today there is a live directional catalyst (AI/chip momentum carried from Monday, semis among pre-market leaders). So I do not apply any rebalance/fidelity downgrade today (no rebalance today anyway) and I do not re-import yesterday's pessimistic framing.
  2. The shape fits TRACE's live win template. Stacking all of TRACE's Window A fires: the two wins (07-09, 09-21) were both continuation HARD_FLATs on trending days; all six losses were stop-outs on non-continuation tapes. A tech-led gap-up morning on an above-SMA20 index is the trending-continuation condition — the same condition that produced its strongest-ever signal yesterday.
  3. But the day's headline clock lands inside Window A's execution window, which is a genuinely new hazard. TRACE's Window A enters at 10:00 and the Williams/Barr/Paulson cluster fires 10:05–10:10 — five minutes after entry. On 09-18 an A fire stopped out in 45 minutes; a hawkish read on that cluster can do the same in five. This is a risk note, not a stand-down: it does not suppress a legitimate gate-clearing fire, it tempers how far I raise the number and it caps conviction.

Net: both stacks are LIVE and eligible (GO, LOW VIX, no hard skip, no Tier-1 for 7 sessions); neither is structurally incompatible with the day. The shape is favorable to both mechanisms — TRACE's A-window continuation template is genuinely on, MNEME's anchor (Window B) reads the clean morning structure the briefing names. What caps conviction is the mid-morning/afternoon headline clock (Fedspeak cluster + UNGA/oil tape), not the mechanism. A same-day co-fire would count as one clustered observation for Family 5 significance, as always.

MNEME — SPY KNN (p_trade 0.30, long, low)

Live, warm, and well-calibrated — I stood down correctly on 09-21 (Brier 0.09, my cleanest stand-down forecast of the stretch), and the shape in front of me today is better than yesterday's for the window I trust. No hard skip; LOW VIX is my best regime (VIX<20 PF 2.39); SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST (24 trades, +$1,046.75, LLR +4.432). Setup present: possible, not likely. My binding gate remains the vote (≥62%), not similarity — on 09-21 sims cleared the 0.50 floor on A/C (0.819/0.760) while every vote ran sub-bar (33/47/60, the closest a single 2pp graze), and the same pattern has held on 09-14/09-15/09-17. What needs to align today is a window whose vote clears 62% on clean post-open structure.

  • Window A (9:30–10:00 observe, 10:00 enter): a 6-bar vector built on a gap-up tech-led open is a narrower read than I'd like, and the 10:05–10:10 Fedspeak cluster lands immediately inside A's trade window — I don't want an A fire today, but if the gate produces one I take it as-gates-dictate and log it honestly.
  • Window B (anchor, 10:00–12:00 observe, 12:00 enter, hard flat 16:00): the one I want. The briefing names the cleanest structure in the morning window; B reads exactly that stretch and enters at noon, before the 1:00 PM (Barkin) and 2:00 PM (Hammack) headline block. It is also my anchor (holdout PF 3.76) and the window that produced my 09-18 win. This is where today's trade, if any, should come from.
  • Window C (flagged, holdout PF 1.25): not a lean; treated with extra scrutiny as always.

Sizing: standard 0.75% ($187.50 on $25K) — no adjustment. Event risk is MEDIUM but the risk is a headline clock, not a scheduled binary inside my windows; there is no event-risk reduction to make, and conviction is low, so no increase. MAX notional $75K unchanged.

Key levels: SPY prior close 773.52; prior range 766.04–774.89; SMA20 764.65 — SPY is now comfortably above its 20-day (unlike 09-18/09-21), so the structural tell has flipped from "reclaim" to "hold." Holding the 766.04 prior-range low keeps the continuation intact; a decisive break of 766.04 with a hawkish Fedspeak read and oil firming is the fade tape. ATR(14) 7.12 → a 1.5× ATR stop is ~10.7 index points.

Invalidation: if SPY gaps >1.5% at the open (gap-up overrun after a 1.9× ATR day), I stand down entirely. If the 10-yr re-tops 5.00% and snaps the semis bid, I stand down entirely. No gate is amended today; v5's parameter set is untouched.

TRACE — DIA KNN (p_trade 0.35, long, med)

Live, eligible, and — unlike the last two plans — genuinely set up for the window that carries my book. No hard skip; LOW VIX is my best regime (VIX<20 PF 2.46); my 09-05 SIP data fix keeps delivering full three-window reads; SPRT CONTINUE (11 trades, −$264.84, 18% WR) with the DEGRADED clock RELIEVED (LLR −2.41 → −1.639, above the −2.944 boundary) — the 09-18 escalation is superseded and the clock is not active today. Setup present: likely — the highest I have called it this stretch, and deliberately so. The reasoning is explicit:

  1. The tape shape is my win template. All 8 of my Window A fires break down cleanly: the two wins (07-09, 09-21) were continuation HARD_FLATs on trending days; the six losses were stop-outs on non-continuation tapes. Today is a gap-up, tech-led morning with the S&P above its 20-day — the trending-continuation condition, and yesterday I posted my strongest-ever Phase 3 signal (vote 80%, max_sim 0.9318) into exactly this shape.
  2. My planning-level error is documented and I am correcting it. Sub-0.20 forecasts on GO/LOW-VIX/no-Tier-1 days busted twice running (09-18 Brier 0.7744, 09-21 Brier 0.6724) — both times I fired. This is the third consecutive session in that configuration and I fired on two of the three. A 0.35 is the calibrated response, not optimism.
  3. Two honest caps on the number. (a) DIA is the value/Dow leg on a tech-led day — the relative laggard, the same configuration that stopped out my 09-18 A fire. (b) The Williams/Barr/Paulson cluster fires 10:05–10:10, five minutes after my 10:00 Window A entry — a hawkish read can stop out an A position before the observation window has even played out (I stopped out in 45 minutes on 09-18). Neither is a stand-down; both are why this is 0.35 with med — not high — conviction.

Sizing: standard 0.75% ($187.50 on $25K) — no adjustment. The relieved DEGRADED clock is explicitly not a sizing or gating input (it neither suppresses nor forces a legitimate fire), and MEDIUM event risk is a headline clock rather than a binary inside my windows. MAX notional $75K unchanged.

Key levels: DIA is not in the briefing's price block — I read it off my own path (09-21 entry 517.24; 09-18 entry 514.97). DIA must hold its 09-21 session low to keep the continuation alive; a decisive break of it with the Dow's yield-sensitives taking the brunt is the fade tape. Watch whether the Dow's energy members (XOM/CVX) can offset those yield-sensitives with crude two-way around $100 — that offset is what lets DIA participate on a two-tier day at all. Watch IWM/DIA relative strength as the value-leg tell.

Invalidation: if DIA gaps >1.5% at the open, I stand down entirely. If the semis bid fades and the 10-yr re-tops 5.00% (the Dow's rate-sensitives take the brunt), I stand down entirely. No gate is amended today; v2's parameter set (K=10, max_sim ≥ 0.60) is untouched and stays live.

Pooled note (Family 5)

Both active members are LIVE and eligible on a firm-wide GO day, MEDIUM headline-driven event risk, no Tier-1 until PCE 09-30, and LOW VIX — each stack's best-backtested regime. Neither is structurally incompatible with the session, and today the shared shape (tech-led gap-up, S&P above its 20-day, clean morning structure, chop into the afternoon) is favorable to both mechanisms rather than degraded: TRACE's Window A continuation template is genuinely on for the first time in this stretch, and MNEME's anchor Window B reads the clean morning structure the briefing names. The one new, session-specific hazard is the mid-morning headline clock — the Williams/Barr/Paulson cluster at 10:05–10:10 lands inside Window A's execution window, and the 1:00 PM / 2:00 PM speakers plus the UNGA/oil tape chop the afternoon — which caps conviction (low/low) and is why TRACE is 0.35 rather than higher despite the best-fit shape. Forecasts sit deliberately above the two busted sub-0.20 prints (the desk's documented planning-level under-forecast error on GO/LOW-VIX days) and below a coin-flip 0.50, because the mechanisms are genuinely live but neither is a scheduled-binary day. A same-day co-fire counts as one clustered observation. Monitoring clocks: MNEME SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST (LLR +4.432); TRACE SPRT CONTINUE, DEGRADED clock RELIEVED (LLR −1.639) — TRACE's standing item is now the session-character / trending-fidelity conversation for Window A (propose, never execute), not a window or gate change. GHOST stays frozen (Phase 2, Decision D2) — no plan, no forecast. Next Tier-1: PCE Sep 30.

House Mneme Desk Reflection — 2026-09-22

Plan reference: desks/house-mneme/plans/2026-09-22-plan.md EOD briefing: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-22-eod.md

Cadence Rule Header

Weekly / same-day-on-trade cadence. Today is Tuesday 2026-09-22 — a firm-wide GO day (no Tier-1 through 09-29, VIX 14.81 LOW), and both active members traded (MNEME Window B long SPY, WIN; TRACE Window A long DIA, STOP). Per WS5, a same-day-on-trade day triggers this reflection — and both members last reflected 2026-09-21, so this period is the single session Tue 09-22. Because both stacks fired on the same date, today's two trades count as one clustered observation for Family 5 pooled significance (per the desk's correlated-session rule). GHOST remains frozen (Phase 2, Decision D2) — no reflection.

What Happened

A co-fire day that split by index leadership: MNEME won the quiet tape, TRACE lost the laggard leg. Period outcome: MNEME WIN +$55.78 (Window B fire on SPY), TRACE LOSS −$82.08 (Window A fire on DIA). Desk net −$26.30 on 2 trades — one clustered Family 5 observation, not two independent ones.

The session was the contained two-tier day both plans called — and it was quiet. SPY closed 773.44 (−0.01% vs prior close, −0.08% vs its 774.09 open), true range 2.51 = 0.37× ATR(14) 6.77 — the EOD's "genuinely quiet session." QQQ closed +0.81% to a record Nasdaq close (27,243.24), the Dow fell 0.36% to 51,863.89, VIX eased to 14.21. The driver channel was oil: Brent broke back below $100 for the first time since Sep 9 on Iran/Hormuz de-escalation reporting, and the heavy Fedspeak slate produced no hawkish shock (Barkin hawkish in substance but read as a bounded mid-cycle path; 10-yr held ~4.96–4.97%). The EOD's morning-narrative grade is STUCK on all four graded dimensions — the AM's "contained, two-tier, direction unknown, refuse to pre-assign polarity" read was exactly the shape the tape delivered.

MNEME (SPY long, FIRED — WIN +$55.78): Window B fire at 12:00 — vote 66.7% (floor 62%), max_sim 0.5712 (floor 0.50), past_n 1529. Windows A (vote 46.7%, sim 0.8008) and C (vote 33.3%, sim 0.5167) did not signal. Entered 773.03, HARD_FLAT 773.61 @ 16:00, +$55.78. This is the first time the vote threshold has cleared since 09-18 after four consecutive sessions of sub-bar votes (09-14/15/17/21), and it cleared on MNEME's thinnest similarity margin of any Phase 3 fire (0.5712 vs 0.50 floor). The plan named Window B as "the one I want" — the anchor window reading the clean morning structure the briefing flagged — and Window B is what fired and won.

TRACE (DIA long, FIRED — STOP −$82.08): Window A fire at 10:00 — vote 80.0%, max_sim 0.9125 (well above the 0.60 floor), past_n 1749; Windows B and C also signalled, A's 80% vote carried the single-position selection. Entered 519.03, stop 518.16, STOP 518.46 @ 10:15 — a 15-minute stop-out, TRACE's fastest of Phase 3. The plan's second honest cap — "DIA is the value/Dow leg on a tech-led day, the relative laggard, the same configuration that stopped out my 09-18 A fire" — is exactly what happened. The plan's third named hazard (the Williams/Barr/Paulson cluster at 10:05–10:10, five minutes after entry) was not the cause: no hawkish shock arrived, and the stop came from the Dow's participation failure on a record-Nasdaq day.

The period's load-bearing finding is a controlled comparison neither member asked for. Both stacks fired on the same session-character configuration (a GO/LOW-VIX, tech-led, two-tier morning). TRACE's last two Window A fires are near-identical in fidelity and opposite in outcome:

SessionWindowVotemax_simOutcomeDuration
09-21A (DIA)80.0%0.9318HARD_FLAT WIN +$185.60held to 12:00
09-22A (DIA)80.0%0.9125STOP LOSS −$82.0815 min

Both cleared the gate decisively, as designed. The gates did not change. What differed was the tape — DIA's continuation held on Monday's broad trending-up day and never existed today on a day the Dow was the weak leg. This is the strongest single piece of evidence in either stack's live record that the desk's misses are session-character, not gate calibration: within the already-gated cohort, the vote and similarity values carry essentially no information about which session this is. TRACE's Phase 3 Window A record is now 2W/7L on 9 fires — all 7 losses stop-outs, both wins HARD_FLAT continuations.

Both members' gates are REGIME-correct; the desk's planning-level error is being corrected, unevenly. The documented desk error — under-forecasting fires on GO/LOW-VIX/no-Tier-1 days — was the explicit reason both forecasts sat deliberately above the two busted sub-0.20 prints. The result is mixed and both halves are honest:

  • TRACE: corrected. 0.18 → 0.35 (med) was the calibrated response: it fired, direction hit → Brier 0.4225, a material improvement on 0.6724 (09-21) and 0.7744 (09-18). The mechanism's live fire capacity was not understated a third time.
  • MNEME: still under-forecast, in the quiet direction. p_trade 0.30 (low), fired → Brier 0.49, direction hit. On a 0.37× ATR day, after four consecutive sub-bar-vote sessions, 0.30 was too low — the honest number was nearer 0.45. MNEME carried the 09-18 raise correctly in kind but not in degree.
  • The plan's structural reads were the strong half. The two-tier/refuse-polarity call was right (EOD STUCK), MNEME's "Window B is the one I want" was right, TRACE's "DIA is the laggard leg, that is the stop-out configuration" was right — TRACE simply treated it as a conviction cap rather than as the expected failure path for the fire.

Combined desk P&L this period: −$26.30 on 2 trades (1 win / 1 loss). Desk cumulative now 37 trades, +$755.61 (MNEME 25 / +$1,102.53; TRACE 12 / −$346.92).

Event Risk vs. Expectation

  • Event risk MEDIUM — correct, and it never bound either stack. No Tier-1 (Bucket A clear through 09-29; next PCE Sep 30), no 8:30 print, no hard skip for either member. Both named vectors were live all day and both resolved without a shock: the Fedspeak slate (Hammack 8:50, Williams/Barr/Paulson 10:05–10:10, Barkin 1:00, Hammack 2:00) produced no hawkish surprise despite 10-yr ~4.96–4.97% and 30-yr ~5.26–5.30% sitting near multi-decade highs, and the UNGA/Iran clock moved toward diplomacy, taking Brent below $100. The EOD rates the event-risk call STUCK and "honest" — nothing named was over-stated, nothing material missed.
  • Session character — the plan's headline call was right; the leg-level detail was inverted. "Contained, two-tier, direction unknown" was confirmed exactly (QQQ +0.81% with a record Nasdaq close; SPY −0.01%; Dow −0.36%; both true ranges sub-ATR). The plan's "gap-up bias, tech-led" pre-market character was half right: SPY gapped up (774.09) and faded, QQQ gapped marginally down and trended up — and "cleanest structure in the morning, headline chop into the afternoon" described QQQ's path better than SPY's. That leg-level inversion is the small honest miss in an otherwise strong structural call, and it is the same shape as the EOD's own minor calibration note.
  • Invalidations — none triggered. No >1.5% DIA gap (TRACE's 519.03 entry was a modest continuation, well inside its stand-down); no >1.5% SPY gap; the 10-yr never re-topped 5.00% so neither member's stand-down condition fired; VIX stayed LOW. Both members were live and eligible all day.
  • Forward risk: the Trump–Xi summit is the week's live two-way coin-flip — with a date conflict the EOD explicitly did not resolve (the wire described it as "Thursday," while the AM and the 09-21 EOD carry Wed Sep 24); per the carry-forward date-verification rule the next AM must confirm it against a primary source before writing it as fixed. PCE Sep 30 is the next Tier-1. Brent is still ~+45% YoY after today's relief, so the oil/inflation channel this week's de-escalation relieved is not closed.

Per-Member Binding Gate Analysis

MNEME — binding gate this session: none — both gates cleared, and the trade won. REGIME, no calibration signal.

MNEME fired Window B on vote 66.7% (floor 62%) and max_sim 0.5712 (floor 0.50) — the first vote clear since 09-18, ending four consecutive sub-bar-vote sessions, and the thinnest similarity margin of any Phase 3 fire that cleared. Windows A (46.7%, sim 0.8008) and C (33.3%, sim 0.5167) stayed sub-bar on the vote.

  • The stretch's documented binding gate — the vote threshold (≥62%) — cleared today, and the trade worked. Over the stand-down stretch (09-14/15/17/21) votes ran 33–60% while similarity cleared or near-cleared; today the vote cleared and the mechanism did what it is built to do: it held a sub-ATR drift to hard flat for a win. This is evidence FOR the existing gate set, and there is nothing here to recalibrate.
  • The thin-similarity reading is monitoring, not calibration. MNEME's three lowest-clearing fires (0.5447 on 07-10, 0.5553 on 07-23, 0.5712 today) are all wins; the one near-floor loss is 0.5720 (07-13, Window B). At N=3–4 this is not an N≥3 same-shaped graze against one threshold — and to be explicit about the direction of the reading, it argues against ever treating a raise of the max_sim floor as a "quality tightening." The coarse similarity gate plus the vote threshold is where the selection lives (consistent with the clearance finding that within-cohort similarity spread is ~zero).
  • Forecast miss is the honest self-critique. p_trade 0.30 (low) → fired → Brier 0.49, direction hit. Correct in kind (raised for a GO/LOW-VIX day), insufficient in degree on a quiet tape after a run of sub-bar votes.
  • Window tally now spread across all three, which is worth stating plainly: live Window A 5W/4L (9), Window B 4W/4L (8), Window C 4W/4L (8). The anchor window (holdout PF 3.76) is running well below its backtest in live data — N=8, far below anything escalating, monitoring only, and today's B win plus 09-18's are the two most recent B fires (2 straight B wins).

Verdict: REGIME — both gates cleared as designed and the trade won. The vote threshold (the stretch's binding gate) cleared for the first time in five sessions on the thinnest similarity margin of the stretch, which is a monitoring observation and an argument against a similarity-floor tightening, not a calibration signal. No gate tweak; SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST strengthens to LLR +5.071. The miss is the plan's p_trade, which under-forecast a fire on a quiet tape (Brier 0.49).

TRACE — binding gate: the vote threshold (≥62%), and it did NOT bind — the gate cleared decisively and the trade still lost. REGIME — and this is the cleanest live proof yet that the stack's problem is session character, not gate calibration.

TRACE fired Window A on vote 80.0%, max_sim 0.9125 (floor 0.60) — its second-strongest Phase 3 signal, behind only yesterday's 0.9318 — and stopped out in 15 minutes at −$82.08. Windows B and C also signalled; A's vote carried the single-position selection.

  • The gate was not near its thresholds; it was blown out on both. Vote 80% vs a 62% floor, similarity 0.9125 vs a 0.60 floor. There is no plausible reading of this as a threshold graze, and therefore no calibration evidence of any kind — the pattern here is the opposite of a threshold being repeatedly grazed.
  • The controlled comparison is the finding. 09-21 (vote 80.0%, sim 0.9318) → HARD_FLAT win held to window end. 09-22 (vote 80.0%, sim 0.9125) → stop-out in 15 minutes. Same gate, same window, near-identical fidelity, opposite outcome. Within the already-gated cohort, vote and similarity do not discriminate outcome; the session's continuation character does. TRACE's Window A record is now 2W/7L on 9 fires — 7/7 losses stop-outs, 2/2 wins HARD_FLAT continuations on trending days.
  • The plan named the true hazard and mis-weighted its consequence. Cap (a) — DIA as the value/Dow leg on a tech-led day, "the same configuration that stopped out my 09-18 A fire" — is precisely what produced the stop; the plan treated it as a reason to cap conviction rather than as the expected failure path for the fire. Cap (b) — the 10:05–10:10 Fedspeak cluster five minutes after entry — did not fire as a hazard: no hawkish shock, yields contained. Index leadership/laggard structure was the binding session variable; the intra-window news clock was not.
  • The forecasting correction is real and should be credited. p_trade 0.18 → 0.35 (med) fired → Brier 0.4225, versus 0.6724 (09-21) and 0.7744 (09-18). The desk's documented planning-level under-forecast pattern on GO/LOW-VIX days did not repeat a third time. The fire was correct by TRACE's own rules, taken at standard 0.75% sizing, with the (relieved) DEGRADED clock correctly treated as neither a sizing nor a gating input.
  • DEGRADED clock: not activated, but the buffer is thin again. LLR −1.639 → −1.993, now 0.952 from the −2.944 boundary. The boundary was not crossed, so the 09-18 escalation protocol is not re-triggered — but one further same-size stop-out puts the stack within roughly a trade of it. At 12 trades, 16.7% WR against a 44.1% holdout WR, the fire-rate/session-character health of this stack remains the standing item.

Verdict: REGIME (gate) — the vote threshold cleared decisively (the second-strongest signal of TRACE's Phase 3) and the trade still stopped out in 15 minutes, which is direct evidence the miss is session character and not calibration. No threshold to move and no unilateral tweak. The Window A quality conversation stays exactly as reframed on 09-21: a session-character / trending-fidelity filter — now with cross-index leadership as its sharpest named variable — never a change to the 9:30–10:00 window, K=10, or max_sim ≥ 0.60. DEGRADED clock de-activated but 0.952 away; watch.

Narrative finding — the same session tested both stacks and produced one clean, shared conclusion. On a contained, two-tier, 0.37× ATR day with no Tier-1 and no event shock, MNEME's gates cleared and its trade won; TRACE's gates cleared even more decisively and its trade lost in 15 minutes. The two halves point the same way: the desk's gates are correctly calibrated — MNEME's vote threshold had been the binding gate for four sessions and, the day it cleared, the mechanism paid; TRACE's gate was nowhere near any threshold and the loss came entirely from being long the day's weak index leg. The desk's real, recurring error remains planning-level: it under-forecast MNEME's fire on a quiet tape (Brier 0.49) after correctly correcting TRACE's on a volatile one (Brier 0.4225), and TRACE's plan kept naming the right session-character hazard (DIA as the laggard) while treating it as a conviction cap rather than as the expected stop-out path. Combined desk cumulative: 37 trades, +$755.61. Live TEMPER items: TRACE's Window A session-character/trending-fidelity conversation (now with cross-index leadership as the named variable), and TRACE's thin DEGRADED buffer.

Open TEMPER Items (Carried Forward / New)

  • TRACE — Window A session-character / trending-fidelity filter (carried from 09-18 via the 09-21 reframe; strengthened today). The 09-18 N=6 stop-out escalation was reframed on 09-21 from a window-quality concern to a session-character one (2W:6L, both wins trending-day continuations). Today strengthens that reframe from the losing side and adds a controlled comparison: two fires with vote 80%/80% and max_sim 0.9318/0.9125 produced a HARD_FLAT win and a 15-minute stop-out. Window A is now 2W/7L on 9 fires. Propose the TEMPER conversation be framed as whether a session-character / cross-index-leadership filter is appropriate for TRACE's Window A — with "is this instrument the day's laggard leg?" as the sharpest named variable — not a change to the 6-bar observation window, K=10, or max_sim ≥ 0.60. Filing is proposing; no gate edit here.
  • TRACE — DEGRADED clock: de-activated, buffer thin (carried from 09-21). LLR −1.639 → −1.993; distance to the −2.944 boundary is 0.952. The boundary was not crossed so the 09-18 escalation protocol is not re-triggered, but one further same-size stop-out restores near-activation. Underlying health unchanged and still the standing concern: 12 trades, 16.7% WR vs a 44.1% holdout WR.
  • TRACE — post-entry news clock vs. index structure (NEW, evidence-based). The plan's named mid-morning hazard (Williams/Barr/Paulson 10:05–10:10, five minutes after TRACE's 10:00 entry) produced no hawkish shock; the stop came from the Dow's participation failure on a record-Nasdaq day. Flag to learnings.md desk-blind: for session-character framing on this stack, index leadership/laggard structure is the higher-signal hazard than scheduled intra-window commentary.
  • MNEME — thin-similarity clears are not a quality signal (NEW, monitoring only). Three lowest-clearing Phase 3 fires (0.5447, 0.5553, 0.5712) all won; the single near-floor loss was 0.5720. N=3–4 is not an N≥3 graze pattern, and the reading argues against a max_sim floor tightening. Flag to learnings.md desk-blind as monitoring.
  • MNEME — SPRT. CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST, sticky, strengthening (LLR +5.071, 25 trades, +$1,102.53). Nothing to escalate.
  • MNEME — live window tally (monitoring, N=8 max). A 5W/4L (9), B 4W/4L (8), C 4W/4L (8). The anchor window (holdout PF 3.76) is running below its backtest live; B has now won two straight (09-18, 09-22). Far below any escalation bar — explicitly noted, not escalated.
  • Family 5 pooled validation. Today is a co-fire → one clustered observation, not two independent draws (desk rule). Pooled cumulative: 37 trades, +$755.61.
  • NEW learnings flag (desk-blind, own members only): the 2026-06-22 rebalance/catalyst-conditionality lesson from 09-21 is not re-litigated here — today had no rebalance — but today adds its own generalizable modifier: on a two-tier day, the member's instrument-vs-index leadership relationship was the binding session variable, and TRACE's stop was a DIA-laggard event rather than a headline event, even though the plan named the headline clock first.

Desk Summary for Orchestrator

House Mneme's 09-22 reflection covers the single co-fire session since the 09-21 reflection (both members traded → same-day-on-trade trigger; the two trades count as one clustered Family 5 observation). MNEME (SPY, Window B — WIN +$55.78): vote 66.7% cleared the 62% floor for the first time in five sessions (after 09-14/15/17/21 all sub-bar) on the thinnest similarity margin of the stretch (0.5712 vs 0.50), entered 773.03 @12:00, HARD_FLAT 773.61 @16:00 — both gates cleared, no binding-gate issue, and the thin-similarity reading argues against a floor tightening; SPRT CONSISTENT-WITH-BACKTEST strengthens (LLR +5.071, 25 tr, +$1,102.53), forecast under-shot at 0.30 → Brier 0.49. TRACE (DIA, Window A — STOP −$82.08): fired its second-strongest Phase 3 signal (vote 80.0%, max_sim 0.9125) and stopped out in 15 minutes — binding gate = the vote threshold, and it did NOT bind; the 09-21-vs-09-22 controlled comparison (80%/80% vote, 0.9318/0.9125 sim → win vs. 15-minute stop) is the cleanest live proof that the miss is session character, not gate calibration; Window A now 2W/7L (7/7 losses stop-outs, 2/2 wins trending continuation HARD_FLATs); the plan named the true hazard (DIA as the day's laggard leg — Dow −0.36% vs a record Nasdaq close) but the modelled one (10:05–10:10 Fedspeak cluster) never fired; forecast correction worked (0.35 → Brier 0.4225 vs 0.6724/0.7744 the prior two sessions); SPRT CONTINUE at LLR −1.993, DEGRADED not activated but only 0.952 away. Desk net −$26.30 on 2 trades; cumulative 37 trades, +$755.61. Event risk MEDIUM confirmed honest (no Tier-1; Fedspeak no shock; Brent below $100 on Iran/Hormuz de-escalation). Live TEMPER items: TRACE's Window A session-character / cross-index-leadership filter conversation (propose, never a gate edit) and TRACE's thin DEGRADED buffer. Next Tier-1: PCE Sep 30; week risk is the Trump–Xi summit with an unresolved date conflict (wire "Thursday" vs. desk carry Wed Sep 24 — confirm against a primary source). Both members live; GHOST frozen (Phase 2, D2).

  • Filed: 2026-09-22 15:45 PT (18:45 ET; desk reflection covering the single session Tue 09-22 since the 09-21 reflection)
  • Next session event risk: LOW — no Tier-1 (next Tier-1s PCE Sep 30 / NFP Oct 2 / CPI Oct 14; FOMC Minutes Oct 7). Live week risk: Trump–Xi summit — EOD flags a date conflict (wire "Thursday" vs. desk carry Wed Sep 24) that the next AM must confirm against a primary source.
  • GHOST: frozen (Phase 2, Decision D2) — no reflection written.
  • MNEME and TRACE per-member compatibility files written (agents/mneme/reflections/daily_2026-09-22.md, agents/trace/reflections/daily_2026-09-22.md).
  • Learnings flags (desk-blind, own members only — not edited into learnings.md by this desk): (1) TRACE — near-identical Window A fidelity, opposite outcomes (09-21 vote 80%/sim 0.9318 → win held to 12:00; 09-22 vote 80%/sim 0.9125 → 15-minute stop): within-cohort vote/similarity carries no outcome information; the discriminator is session continuation character, with cross-index leadership the sharpest named variable. Strengthens the standing proposal for a session-character / trending-fidelity filter for Window A — never a window/gate change. (2) TRACE — the post-entry news clock was not the binding hazard; the index leg was (no hawkish shock from the 10:05–10:10 cluster; the stop was a Dow-laggard event). (3) TRACE — DEGRADED distance thin again at 0.952, boundary not crossed, protocol not re-triggered. (4) MNEME — thin-similarity clears are not a quality signal (0.5447/0.5553/0.5712 all wins vs one 0.5720 loss): monitor, and do not treat a max_sim floor raise as a tightening. No gate edits anywhere: MNEME's v5 set (K=15, max_sim ≥ 0.50, vote ≥ 62%) and TRACE's v2 set (K=10, max_sim ≥ 0.60, vote ≥ 62%) are untouched.
