Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: LOW — but the day's structural event is the calendar, not the data. No Tier-1 event within 7 trading days (FOMC resolved 09-16; next PCE 09-30, NFP 10-02, CPI 10-14). Only scheduled reads are second-tier: 9:15 ET Industrial Production, 9:30 Bowman, 10:00 CB LEI, ~11:45 Schmid, 1:00 rig count. None is a market-binary. The live structural item is quadruple witching — quarterly index futures (opening-based settlement), index options and single-stock options all expire, ~$6.2tn of US options exposure per Citadel Securities. Firm-wide status GO; hard skips CLEAR for both members (prior VIX close 15.44 < 30; no mega-cap reporter after the prior close).
  • Session character expected: mechanically-driven / noise-dominated, in a modestly risk-on tech-led wrapper. Pre-market SPY +0.24%, QQQ +0.47%; the semis/AI complex is the bid (Huang's "chip volume roughly doubles next year" comment drove an Asian chip rally, Nikkei +1.4–1.7%); the BOJ hiked to 1.25% — a 31-year high — and the yen weakened anyway (sell-the-fact); oil fell a third session (WTI below $100) on Saudi East-West pipeline-restoration expectations; the 10-yr eased to ~4.94%, off its 5.04% 2007-high re-test. The expiry flow, not the narrative, is the dominant intraday variable. Mechanical, elevated volume is concentrated in the first 30 minutes and the closing auction — the briefing says plainly: do not read a choppy open as a directional signal, and structure may not form cleanly until the dust settles.
  • VIX regime: 15.27 — LOW (<18), down from 15.44. LOW is the weakest cohort for both members — ECHO's mechanism needs a completed, high-participation program, and SURGE's PF is 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30.
  • Key levels: SPY prior close 762.64 (prior range 759.98–763.57; SMA20 764.31 — below; ATR14 6.66). QQQ prior close 716.89 (prior range 713.32–718.03; SMA20 712.73 — above; ATR14 8.42). The same shape as the last two weeks: tech (QQQ) above its 20-day, the broad index (SPY) below it — QQQ leadership, not broad participation. Rates anchor: 10-yr ~4.94%, the hold-or-reject of ~5.00% is the transmission check on the tech relief. Energy anchor: XLE on oil's third down session. Note both ATRs are trailing and possibly still elevated off the FOMC sessions — relevant to any 1.5×ATR stop.
  • Macro backdrop: one session into a post-hike relief tape, on a session whose mechanics are dictated by expiry. Yesterday's gap is the cautionary data point: SPY came in with a relief gap-up premarket and closed −0.08% — the pre-market bid has not been carrying into the close.
  • Desk-level consequence — the witching session is hostile to both Family 2 expressions, but for two different, non-symmetric reasons, and that asymmetry is today's whole read:
  • For ECHO, witching inflates the very inputs my gates read. Expiry volume mechanically lifts vol_ratio (my long-binding gate over the last three weeks) and the opening settlement + MOC flow lift ADX — but that participation is flow, not program. My mechanism fades a completed directional institutional program; today's realistic path to a clearance is a false-positive clearance, where the stack opens on mechanical participation and I fade a tape that never had an exhaustible program. TEMPER's 2026-06-22 calendar-hygiene finding (index-rebalance effective dates dominate intraday structure with "rotation noise rather than price discovery") is the same class of pre-disclosed mechanical calendar event, and it says to rate setup likelihood lower on it.
  • For SURGE, witching corrupts the inputs my mechanism reads. The three-phase structure needs a clean first-hour establishment, and today's first hour is settlement-distorted (opening-based index futures settlement); the cumulative session VWAP my pullback/resumption geometry measures is computed from that same corrupted open. This is not a threshold question — it is an input-validity question, and it is why today is close to a structural no-trade for SURGE rather than merely a low-probability one.
  • Honest forecasts, not a hedge: echo p_trade 0.35 / short / low, surge p_trade 0.12 / long / low.

ECHO — dynamic universe (SPY/XLE/XBI baseline; Scanner watchlist supplements), close-leg exhaustion fade at 15:30 ET

Setup present: possible on the gates, but the likely path to a clearance today is a mechanical false positive — I expect to refuse the trade the engine may take. p_trade 0.35, direction short, conviction low.

The watchlist qualifies five candidate families. I evaluate each against the gate stack (morning signal ≥ ±0.25%, VWAP persistence, ADX ≥ 20, vol_ratio ≥ 1.2, exhaustion_score ≥ 0.80) at 10:00 and again at 15:20:

  • SPY/QQQ — UP (broad-market directional program), hard skip CLEAR, but weak program quality and sub-threshold on my own pre-market eligibility screen. Pre-market SPY +0.24%, QQQ +0.47% — both below the ±0.5% pre-market catalyst-eligibility bar this desk has been applying to index-level candidates. It is a thin qualification, and the watchlist itself flags "weak program quality on witching-day mechanical noise." If it fires at all it is a short (fade an up morning) — but an up-morning-then-hold tape is the strengthening shape, not an exhaustion shape, and yesterday's relief gap closed red. Low-quality candidate; not pre-committed.
  • Semis complex (SOXX/SMH, NVDA, MU, AMD, INTC, MRVL) — UP, CLEAR, and the only genuine two-day directional bid in the book. Refused. A sector in a live, extending bid is a strengthening driver, and fading the driver's own strengthening sector is my 08-10 pre-committed loss template — precisely the shape of the 09-15 XLE short (−$64.98, stopped in 25 minutes with the complex still rising as Brent closed at a four-month high). Note the composite cannot save me here: exhaustion_score read 1.6913 on that loss and 1.7405 on the 09-08 win. I do not fade this complex today.
  • XLE — DOWN (weak), CLEAR. This is the correct side of the 08-10 rule (the energy driver is weakening on oil's third down session), but the watchlist calls it headline-driven, not a clean program, and a supply-restoration headline is not a completed institutional program. Evaluated, not pre-committed. If XLE's morning signal is down and the stack clears at 15:20, the fade is long — that is the one path where a clearance today would be mechanism-faithful rather than mechanical.
  • XBI — not a candidate. No FDA decision today; the Ultragenyx UX111 PDUFA is 09-19, tomorrow, not today (watchlist FDA notes). No catalyst, and the xbi_leg sub-book is n=2 / WR 0.0% — carried, not touched.
  • Single-name event names (GNRC, HPE, SMCI, MRNA) — refused as a class. Two reasons, both pre-existing: TEMPER's 2026-07-24 finding that single-stock post-earnings gap-ups reverse within the first ~90 minutes, not across the full six-hour program cycle, so they are structurally non-qualifying unless the intraday structure independently supports a close-window fade; and on a quadruple-witching session a single-name spike is the purest expiry-related mechanical print in the tape. Refused regardless of what the gates say — this is the one place today where a plan-level refusal is unambiguous.

The witching hazard, named explicitly. My historically binding gate is vol_ratio (0.953 on 09-09; 1.179 on 09-14 — a 0.021 graze). Today it will almost certainly clear, because ~$6.2tn of expiring exposure produces mechanical volume that has nothing to do with a directional program. The same is true of the ADX the opening settlement can manufacture. So my honest read is not "today is a better day for my gates" — it is "today my gates are likelier to be measuring the wrong thing." If a clearance at 15:20 rests on witching-mechanical participation rather than a completed directional program, I stand down.

Sizing vs. event risk: event risk is LOW, so no event-driven size reduction is warranted. Mechanically standard: 0.75% dollar risk per instrument, 2.0% session budget ($500), proportional scaling if combined risk exceeds the budget, stop 1.5× ATR (trailing ATR: SPY 6.66, QQQ 8.42 — flag if the FOMC sessions left it inflated), hard flat 15:58 ET — no overnight, so no event tail. Candid disclosure: my refusal above is a plan note, not a defense. The plan/engine enforcement gap is open at N=3 same-shaped (08-19 XBI, 08-20 XBI, 09-15 XLE) and escalated as calibration-shaped to the next Desk Review; nothing I write here prevents the engine from trading a clearance. That is exactly why p_trade is 0.35 — the probability the engine fires — and not the probability I endorse the trade.

Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 762.64 prior close, range 759.98–763.57 — below SMA20 764.31, so an up-morning fade is a fade into a below-20-day index; QQQ 716.89, range 713.32–718.03, above SMA20 712.73 — the resilient leg, and the one whose bid I least want to fade. XLE driven by oil's third down session (WTI <$100). 10-yr ~4.94%; a re-top toward 5.00% would invert the tech relief mid-session.

Invalidation: stand down entirely if (1) the morning signal is sub-±0.25% or direction-flips ≥2 times in the first half hour — the witching open's modal noise, and the briefing tells me not to read it as directional; (2) vol_ratio is sub-1.2 at 15:20 (least likely branch today); (3) the clearance is mechanical-only, i.e. participation is elevated purely on expiry flow while the driver (semis/AI, or the energy leg) is still strengthening into the close window — the 09-15 loss template, refused; (4) any single-name expiry spike presents as the candidate — refused as a class. The most likely non-trade reason today is morning_signal or vwap_persistence on a two-way mechanical open; the most dangerous outcome is a clean-looking clearance that is really expiry flow.

SURGE — SPY/QQQ, VWAP pullback resumption (10:00–12:00 ET)

No trade expected — structurally incompatible session. p_trade 0.12, direction long, conviction low.

SURGE is live today (FOMC was 09-16, so no hard skip fires) — the low forecast is a session-character call, not a mechanical skip, and I want that on the record:

  1. Today's first hour is the input my mechanism reads, and today it is mechanically distorted. Quadruple witching includes opening-based index futures settlement, and the briefing is explicit that the first 30 minutes can be distorted and that "a choppy open" must not be read as a directional signal. My three-phase structure requires exactly that read — a clean trend establishment in the first hour. Worse, my pullback/resumption geometry is measured against the cumulative session VWAP, which is computed from that same corrupted open: a VWAP contaminated by settlement prints makes "did price pull back to VWAP and resume?" a question about a distorted reference, not about institutional commitment. This is an input-validity problem, not a threshold problem, and no gate setting answers it.
  2. This is my documented loss class, structurally. The catalyst-gap / relief-day shape (0/2 at the 2026-07-24 learning) and the 08-14 finding both point the same way: on a relief gap, the first hour is a price-discovery process, not a clean trend establishment. Today is a relief tape with a second mechanical distortion layered on top, and yesterday's relief gap closed −0.08% — the bid is not carrying.
  3. LOW VIX (15.27) is my weakest cohort — PF 1.36 in VIX < 20 vs 2.18 at 20–30. My thesis lives in elevated vol.
  4. The chronic binding gate is pullback_resumption, not the floor. The ±0.30% first-hour floor will probably clear today (a semis-led open is plausible) — and that is precisely why the floor is not the question. Even on 09-10, the one recent session where the floor genuinely cleared (SPY −0.66%, ADX 41.9), the resumption gate denied anyway: ≥11 trend-qualified no-shows since 07-15, now the 13th consecutive no-trade session on this stretch. On a witching day, with mechanical volume concentrated at the open and the close while midday goes quiet, the measured pullback-then-resume window is the least likely part of the session to complete. Blocking at the floor and blocking at the resumption are the same structural absence measured at two stages.

Sizing vs. event risk: event risk is LOW, no event tail, and my 14:00 ET hard flat means I never carry a print regardless. Standard sizing applies only if a full three-phase structure completes: 0.75% ($187.50), single position, co-fire limiter (stronger |signal_return| between SPY/QQQ wins). No adjustment — and I am explicitly not sizing for a trade I do not expect. There is no VIX skip in my cleared code and I am not adding one here; the session-character read is a forecast, not a parameter.

Key levels (context, not triggers): SPY 762.64 prior close, range 759.98–763.57, SMA20 764.31 (below), ATR 6.66. QQQ 716.89, range 713.32–718.03, SMA20 712.73 (above), ATR 8.42. The operative level is each leg's session VWAP through the 10:00–12:00 window — with the input-validity caveat above.

Invalidation (the expected outcome, not a contingency): (1) neither leg prints a ±0.30% first-hour impulse — the modal case on a mechanically noisy open; (2) a leg trend-qualifies but no VWAP-touch pullback resumes inside the window — the chronic block, and today the VWAP it must touch is partly a settlement artifact; (3) the settlement-driven first-hour drive reverses after 10:00, i.e. the move was mechanical rather than an establishment. The most likely logged reason is no_signal at first_hour_signal or pullback_resumption; both are structural absence, not threshold grazes, and neither warrants re-opening the floor question (my 09-05 deliverable already closed it — loosening the floor converts none of those sessions).

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-09-18 04:35 PDT
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes
  • Firm-wide status: GO (event risk LOW, VIX 15.27 LOW regime, quadruple witching ~$6.2tn expiring). No hard skip fires for either member — both are live on paper, one is expected to be refused in prose but not in code.
  • Desk net forecast: ECHO p_trade 0.35 / short / low, SURGE p_trade 0.12 / long / low.
  • Calibration disclosure: ECHO's 0.35 is above its recent base rate (~1 fire in 15 sessions) deliberately and for one reason — witching mechanically clears its historically binding vol_ratio gate, which is a false-clearance path, not a better-setup path. My honest engine-fire estimate is higher than my honest endorsement rate, and I am not hiding the divergence: if ECHO trades today, the modal outcome is a clearance I pre-refused. SURGE's 0.12 is below its ~15% Phase 3 base rate on the input-validity argument above — that is a genuine "no trade expected," not a fence.
  • Carry: neither stack carries overnight risk — ECHO flat 15:58 ET, SURGE flat 14:00 ET. No Tier-1 event today, so no event tail.
  • Carried TEMPER items unchanged and untouched this session: ECHO plan/engine enforcement gap (N=3, escalated); exhaustion_score non-discrimination (n=2); XBI exclusion review (n=2, not triggered); SURGE session-character / catalyst-gap conversation; SURGE 2023 PF watch and ADX-band watch. No gate logic modified — nothing in this plan touches a baseline.

House Echo Desk Reflection — 2026-09-18 (Friday)

Cadence rule header: Weekly/Friday or same-day-on-trade (WS5). Today is Friday 09-18 — a weekly-cadence trigger. Period covered: 2026-09-16, 2026-09-17, 2026-09-18 — the three live sessions since the 09-15 same-day-on-trade reflection. The desk took zero trades. The one trade in this story is the one neither stack was structurally able to reach.

Nominal desk net P&L this period: $0.00 (ECHO $0.00; SURGE $0.00).

What Happened

A no-trade week for House Echo, and it was almost entirely the fault of the right reasons — with one genuinely new, incomplete data point buried in ECHO's 09-18 near-miss notes.

Wed 09-16 — FOMC. Both stacks hard-skipped, deterministically. The plan forecast p_trade 0.0 for both with high conviction — not a hedge, the honest read of a calendar-anchored skip. The Fed delivered a unanimous 25bp hike to 3.75–4.00% with a one-more-hike median dot (higher-for- longer, not one-and-done), the 10-yr re-topped 5.00%, SPY closed −0.44% (−0.71% off its open, 1.86× ATR open-high-fade), QQQ flat. The engine logged hard_event:FOMC (ECHO) and event:FOMC (SURGE) exactly as pre-committed, pre-empting any gate evaluation. Both Brier 0.0. No finding.

Thu 09-17 — post-FOMC relief gap that gapped up and held. Both stacks blocked, for opposite structural reasons, on a day neither was built for. This is the day the AM named correctly — the broad tech-led relief rally (SPY +1.14% via the gap only, −0.08% vs open; QQQ +1.73%, +0.09% vs open; last hour flat; VIX 15.44 LOW; semis led on Huang's chips bid) — and SURGE's documented catalyst-gap loss class. ECHO blocked wide on ADX 12.7 vs 20 on SPY (signal +0.95% — a signal-gate pass killed by total trend-absence on a gap-and-digest day) with XLE sub-signal (−0.03%) and XBI vol_ratio 1.120. SURGE blocked on vwap_side / vwap_slope (SPY close 760.61 vs session VWAP 761.34, dir=long; QQQ vwap_slope 0.000043 vs 0.0001) — a gap-up day left no pullback geometry against a cumulative VWAP computed from the gapping open. Neither gate grazed a floor. Regime, cleanly.

Fri 09-18 — quadruple witching, contained two-tier tech-over-value. Both stacks no-trade; ECHO logged two tight grazes. QQQ +0.62% (above SMA20, +0.33% vs open, firm +0.26% last hour), SPY −0.13% (flat vs open, below SMA20), both 0.72–0.79× ATR — a quiet, mechanically-noisy witching session, VIX down to 14.81 LOW. Firm-wide GO; no Tier-1 through 09-25.

  • ECHO blocked at no_qualifying_instruments: SPY vol_ratio 0.992 vs 1.2 (wide, signal −0.38%), XLE morning_signal −0.24% vs ±0.25% — a 0.01pp graze, XBI vol_ratio 1.187 vs 1.2 — a 0.013 graze (signal −0.92%). The noteworthy read: XLE's morning signal came in down (−0.24%) — the exact mechanism-faithful path the plan pre-committed to (the energy driver weakening on oil's third down session → the correct side of the 08-10 rule, a long fade) — and was 0.01pp from qualifying. And the plan's central worry did not materialize: it forecast p_trade 0.35 precisely because it expected witching's mechanical volume to inflate vol_ratio into a false clearance. The opposite happened — SPY 0.992 and XBI 1.187 both stayed sub-floor. The engine stayed shut on genuine readings, not by plan enforcement.
  • SURGE blocked at no_signal: SPY adx 21.1 vs 22.0 (0.9 graze; signal −0.45%, which does clear ±0.30% → would have been a short, opposite the plan's forecast long), QQQ first_hour_signal −0.00% vs ±0.30% (nothing). SPY's first-hour impulse qualified and its ADX just missed the floor — but the three-phase resumption precondition (the chronic binding gate) was never reached, and the plan had pre-committed that the corrupted-settlement VWAP makes any pullback/resumption measurement invalid today anyway.

Self-critique — a disciplined week that mostly executed its own plans, with two honest blots on the forecast side. This was the first window since the 09-15 loss where the plan/engine enforcement gap did not fire — and it did not fire because the engine never offered a trade. That is the uncomfortable corollary: the desk's protection is still the gate stack, not the plan, and the gap category sits dormant-but-open at N=3 (08-19, 08-20, 09-15), awaiting an engine-fire to be re-tested. Where the desk did err was forecast calibration, both in the same direction (overshoot): ECHO's p_trade 0.35 on 09-18 was an engine-fire estimate premised on a mechanical false-clearance that did not happen (Brier 0.1225), and SURGE's direction: long was the wrong side of its own qualifying SPY signal (−0.45%, short) — a plan that forecast a witching-day input-validity block, then mis-signed the leg that came closest to clearing it. 09-17's p_trade 0.25 (ECHO) / 0.15 (SURGE) were accurate (Brier 0.0625 / 0.0225). The 09-18 plans were honest in intent and miscalibrated in outcome; the desk will hold its own engine-fire estimates to the evidence that a contained LOW-VIX sub-ATR day rarely inflates vol_ratio, regardless of expiry calendar.

Per-Member Binding Gate Analysis

ECHO — binding gate: vol_ratio (XBI), and it grazed again; regime with a genuinely new, incomplete XBI-specific calibration question (N=2)

09-16 is a deterministic skip (no gate read). 09-17's block was ADX 12.7 — a 7-point wide miss, unequivocally regime (the gap-and-digest relief day had no trend to exhaust). 09-18 is the load-bearing session: XBI vol_ratio 1.187 vs 1.2 closed the week with a 0.013 graze (signal −0.92%) and XLE gave a 0.01pp morning_signal graze on the plan's mechanism-faithful long path. On XBI, exhaustion_score = vol_ratio × |signal| = 1.187 × 0.92 = 1.09, which clears the 0.80 floor — so on this instance the binding gate is genuinely vol_ratio, not a downstream composite block.

Regime or calibration? The established answer is regime, and this is the first evidence that answer may be incompletely tested on XBI specifically. The desk's 09-05 deliverable concluded loosening vol_ratio converts nothing because exhaustion_score independently blocks the flagged near-miss days — but that finding was concentrated on XLE and examined the specific days whose exhaustion also failed. XBI now gives 09-17 (1.120, signal +2.64%, exhaustion 2.96) and 09-18 (1.187, signal −0.92%, exhaustion 1.09) — two consecutive sessions where vol_ratio was the logged binding gate and exhaustion would clear. That is a calibration-shape on XBI, but N=2 and data- incomplete: each near-miss note logs only the first blocking gate, so the downstream gates (ADX ≥ 20, VWAP persistence) needed to confirm a real conversion are not recorded. This does not clear the N ≥ 3 escalation bar and is not a unilateral tweak candidate. Verdict: regime on the window (the contained witching tape closed the surface for ECHO's completed-program mechanism as the plan said it would), plus one flagged, incomplete calibration data point on the XBI vol_ratio floor for TEMPER awareness. No gate touched. The plan/engine enforcement gap remains dormant- open at N=3, and this window showed why it is dormant: the shuttered gate, not the good plan, is still the stack's protection.

SURGE — binding gate: adx (SPY, 21.1 vs 22 on 09-18) after vwap_side/vwap_slope on 09-17; regime — a first-floor graze on a pre-declared input-invalid session

09-16 deterministic FOMC skip. 09-17 blocked early at vwap_side/vwap_slope — the gap-and-hold relief day produced no measured pullback structure (its documented catalyst-gap loss class), no graze. 09-18 is the first genuine SURGE near-miss in a while: SPY's first-hour signal −0.45% cleared the ±0.30% floor, and ADX came in at 21.1 — a 0.9 graze below the 22.0 floor. Three readings on this one block: (1) a single opening-season ADX graze is not a pattern (N=1), and it did not even reach the chronic pullback_resumption gate — which remains the structural absence that has denied SURGE its 13th consecutive no-trade session on this stretch (every session since the 08-31 stop-out); (2) the plan pre-committed that a witching-day VWAP is input-invalid for pullback/resumption measurement, so even a cleared ADX would not have produced a trustworthy trade; (3) the plan's own direction (long) was wrong — the leg that qualified was down (−0.45% → short). Regime, no fix, no TEMPER conversation on the ADX floor. One graze at the preliminary stage on a session the desk pre-declared structurally incompatible is not calibration evidence, and it does not re-open the first-hour/ADX floor question the 09-05 deliverable closed. SURGE's forecast side was its weak side this window only on 09-18 (direction miss; p_trade 0.12 vs actual no-fire → Brier 0.0144, acceptable).

Near-miss readingRegime, with a new incomplete XBI-specific calibration flag (N=2: 09-17 vol 1.120 / 09-18 vol 1.187, exhaustion would clear both) — does not clear N≥3Regime (N=1 opening-season ADX graze, pre-declared input-invalid witching session; doesn't reach chronic resumption gate)
Structural vs. transientStructural — completed-program mechanism needs a trend, and the gap-up-and-digest (09-17) and sub-ATR witching (09-18) sessions had noneStructural — three-phase resumption precondition unmet for a 13th straight session on the LOW-VIX/repricing tape

Narrative finding: last period ended on the thesis that "the desk's protection during the 18-session ECHO no-trade stretch was a closed gate, not a good plan; the day the gate opened the plan was the only defense and it is not enforced." This week was the mirror test of that thesis — a week the gate never opened, so the plan was never tested. ECHO's engine stayed shut on genuine readings (09-18's vol_ratio held sub-floor against its own witching-inflation forecast); SURGE never reached its chronic resumption gate. The enforcement gap survived this window by inactivity, which is informative but not resolving — it remains the desk's single open calibration-class exposure. The one genuinely new thread is ECHO's XBI vol_ratio: the 09-05 deliverable's "loosening converts nothing" verdict was an XLE story, and XBI is now giving back-to-back structural-sub-floor readings whose exhaustion composites clear. Whether XBI would actually convert needs the downstream gates (ADX/VWAP) that the near-miss log does not record — a question worth one TEMPER conversation, not a tweak.

Open TEMPER Items (Carried Forward)

  • ECHO — plan/engine enforcement gap: dormant this period at N=3 same-shaped (08-19 XBI, 08-20 XBI, 09-15 XLE). No engine-fire occurred, so nothing enforced; status unchanged (candidate for the next Desk Review, sizing-(b): gate-level enforcement of plan stand-downs). No gate touched.
  • ECHO — XBI vol_ratio floor: NEW, calibration-shape, N=2, data-incomplete — flag, not escalate. 09-17 (vol 1.120, exhaustion 2.96) and 09-18 (vol 1.187, exhaustion 1.09) logged vol_ratio as the binding gate where exhaustion_score would clear — a shape the XLE-concentrated 09-05 deliverable did not test. Does not clear N≥3; downstream gates unrecorded. Worth a TEMPER conversation to either close it as regime or scope a focused XBI diagnostic. The 09-05 deliverable stands; it just does not fully answer XBI.
  • ECHO — exhaustion_score binding-gate watch: carried; no new live-cleared trade this period.
  • ECHO — XBI exclusion review (WR < 50% over 15+): sub-book n=2, WR 0.0% — NOT triggered. Carried.
  • SURGE — session-character / catalyst-gap filter conversation: open, carried. 09-17 was another clean catalyst-gap instance (gap held, no pullback geometry), consistently with the 0/2 learning; 09-18's ADX graze is not new evidence.
  • SURGE — ADX 22.0 floor / ADX re-tune watch: carried (moderate-trend 22–30 vs strong ≥30). The 09-18 SPY ADX 21.1 sits a hair below the moderate band's low edge; N=1, watched, not an intervention.
  • SURGE — first-hour floor question: closed; 09-18's QQQ −0.00% first-hour (nothing) confirms the floor grazes remain trend-absent, do not re-open on graze counts.
  • SURGE — event-day skip diagnostic (resolved MIXED); 2023 PF 0.95 watch: all carried, no new data.
  • Plan-scoring observation (desk-level, for score_plans.py): both stacks' 09-18 forecasts overshot the direction side differently — ECHO's p_trade 0.35 (engine-fire estimate premised on a mechanical false-clearance that didn't happen, Brier 0.1225) and SURGE's direction: long (its qualifying leg was a −0.45% short). Not scoring bugs — genuine forecast misses the desk should hold itself to.

Desk Summary for Orchestrator

Desk-cadence reflection covering 09-16/09-17/09-18 — desk net $0.00, zero trades, both members on every session. 09-16 was a deterministic FOMC hard-skip (both, Brier 0.0). 09-17 both blocked wide on relief-gap-and-digest (ECHO ADX 12.7; SURGE vwap_side/vwap_slope) — regime, no grazes. ECHO binding gate through the window = vol_ratio; 09-18's XBI 1.187 (0.013 graze) plus XLE morning signal −0.24% (0.01pp) on the mechanism-faithful long path, while the plan's central fear — a witching-driven false clearance — did not materialize (gates held sub-floor). Verdict: regime with a new, incomplete XBI-specific calibration flag (N=2: 09-17 vol 1.120 / 09-18 vol 1.187, exhaustion clears both) that the XLE-focused 09-05 deliverable did not test — worth a TEMPER conversation, not a tweak; cumulative −$148.53 (5W/5L, WR 50%), SPRT CONTINUE. SURGE blocked all three sessions (13th straight no-trade since 08-31); 09-18 SPY adx 21.1 vs 22.0 (0.9 graze, signal −0.45% qualifies → short, opposite the plan's long) — regime, no fix, never reaching the chronic pullback_resumption gate; cumulative +$482.98, SPRT CONTINUE. The plan/engine enforcement gap remains dormant-open at N=3 — a week of closed gates meant it was never re-tested. One flag for learnings.md (ECHO XBI vol_ratio N=2) and a desk-level scoring note. Next: no Tier-1 through 09-25; PCE Sep 30 — neither stack carries overnight risk (ECHO flat 15:58, SURGE flat 14:00).
