Desk Plan — Reversal — 2026-09-17

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-17-pm.md PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — this plan covers active members Null + Meridian only)

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: LOW — and for the first time in a week, the event gate does NOT fire. The FOMC resolved yesterday (Sep 16, unanimous 25bp hike to 3.75–4.00%, one-more-hike dot). No Tier-1 event today or through Sep 24 (next: PCE Sep 30, NFP Oct 2, CPI Oct 14). Firm-wide status is GO. Both active members' is_event_day() checks return clean — this is a live, tradeable session for the desk, the first since 09-15 (09-16 was the deterministic FOMC skip). The only scheduled reads are 8:30 ET Initial Jobless Claims (prior 206K) and the Philly Fed (consensus 31.3 vs prior 47.4 — a sharp give-back implied) — both MEDIUM, neither a market-binary.
  • Session character expected: post-FOMC relief digestion — two-way risk, not a clean one-way tape. The briefing is explicit: a relief-gap-up open that is likely to digest rather than trend cleanly. The two live pivots: (1) does the semis bid (AMD/INTC/MU/AVGO/SMH all higher premarket) hold once the open's relief is priced? (2) does the 10-yr re-assert toward 5% (off the 5.04% 2007-high re-test, easing to ~4.98%) and re-apply the rate pressure? The briefing's own Reversal line is the honest read: do not pre-assign overall direction on a digestion day — the de-rated tech complex is the relative hold, not the default weak leg, so today's semis bid is a genuine signal, not a trap to fade reflexively.
  • VIX regime: 16.02 (LOW, <18) — down −1.69 from the prior close (17.71), the biggest single-day drop in the stretch. LOW-VIX is historically both members' strongest cohort (Null's backtest WR 80.1% in the <18 bucket; Meridian's edge is concentrated in the same regime). Today the cohort logic actually runs — the event gate is open.
  • Key levels:
  • QQQ: prior close 704.70 (Null's gap-fill target), prior-day range 700.04–711.76, 20-day SMA 712.69 (below SMA20 — QQQ has closed sub-SMA for a third straight session), ATR(14) 8.19. Null's in-band gap band: ±0.82 to ±5.73 pts. Meridian's sweep level (prior high) 711.76.
  • SPY: prior close 754.05, prior-day range 749.67–761.63, 20-day SMA 764.63 (below), ATR(14) 6.44. Meridian's sweep level (prior high) 761.63.
  • Pre-market: no QQQ/SPY print is available (thin IEX at 07:00 ET) — the implied futures read is +1.15% (QQQ) / +0.87% (SPY), semis-led. That is the reliable directional read; confirm the actual gap at the cash open — the magnitude is the whole ballgame for Null today.
  • Macro backdrop: the hawkish confirmation (one-more-hike dot) reinforced the rates headwind that drove the late-August de-rate; the tape is trying to find post-decision footing with oil easing a second straight session (Saudi East-West pipeline restoration timeline) and the 10-yr off its 2007-high re-test. One sentence: a firm-wide GO on a relief-digestion day — both mechanisms are live, both are structurally biased toward the fade side, and the honest desk call is that the setup is possible but not likely, with the gap size (Null) and the prior-day range / sweep completion (Meridian) as the binding gates.

Null — QQQ (gap fade / FVG; MNQ primary)

Setup present: POSSIBLE, not likely — the relief gap-up is the wrong shape for the fade. p_trade 0.25, direction short, conviction low. Null's event gate is clean today (FOMC was yesterday), so the session opens and the gap is actually measured — the first live measurement since 09-15.

The binding gate is the gap-size filter, and today's implied gap is the problem:

  1. The implied gap is oversize. Futures read +1.15% on QQQ ≈ +8.1 pts against ATR(14) 8.19 → gap_ratio ≈ 0.99× ATR, above the 0.70× ceiling. A relief gap-up of this magnitude is the population v2 exists to exclude — it is a genuine post-decision bid, not a thin-overnight manufactured imbalance. The 09-10 (1.149×) and 09-14 (1.492×) sessions are the recent precedent: oversize gaps blocked cleanly, and neither was tradeable.
  2. The direction, if it fires, is short. QQQ is below SMA20 (712.69), so the trend-alignment filter permits only gap-up fades (short). A gap-up fade is the correct structural side — but only if the gap lands in-band (0.1–0.7× ATR). At +0.99× it is out of band by construction.
  3. The honest read: for Null to trade today, the cash-open gap must print materially smaller than the futures imply — roughly +0.1% to +0.7% (≈ +0.8 to +5.7 pts). That is a real possibility on a digestion day (the open often gaps less than the pre-market futures), but it is not the base case. The base case is an oversize relief gap that blocks on gap_filter.

Sizing vs event risk: standard — 1 MNQ, 0.5% risk, one position at a time, 11:00 AM ET hard exit. No event risk to size against today (LOW, no Tier-1). If the gap is in-band and the reversal impulse forms, take the standard fade; do not upsize on the LOW-VIX cohort — the digestion character argues for the standard 1-contract, not conviction sizing.

Key levels: QQQ prior close 704.70 (fill target), prior high 711.76, prior low 700.04, SMA20 712.69, ATR(14) 8.19; in-band gap ±0.82 to ±5.73 pts. The gap must print inside that band for the setup to be live.

Invalidation / stand-down: if the cash-open gap prints ≥ 0.7× ATR (≈ ≥ 5.73 pts) — the relief gap is real, not noise, and the fade thesis is void. Also stand down if the gap is < 0.1× ATR (sub-floor, no edge). The 11:00 AM hard exit is unchanged.

Mechanism health: SPRT CONTINUE — n=14 W13/L1, LLR +2.249, cumulative +$1,881.59, WR 92.9%. First-loss watch stays N=1 (the 09-03 trend-day fade remains un-clustered). Today is a live-measurement session — the first since 09-15 — and the SPRT population is untouched by a no-trade row.

Meridian — QQQ/SPY/IWM (kill-zone prior-high sweep + RSI(2) ≥ 88, bearish only)

Setup present: POSSIBLE, not likely — the relief gap-up is the right direction of backdrop, but the prior-day range and the sweep-completion gate are the binders. p_trade 0.20, direction short, conviction low. Meridian's event gate is clean today (FOMC was yesterday), so all three legs are evaluated — the first live evaluation since 09-15.

The mechanism needs an exhausted UP-push into a prior high (QQQ 711.76 / SPY 761.63) with RSI(2) ≥ 88, inside the ADX 18–32 band, then a spike-reject + bearish FVG. Today's relief gap-up is actually the correct directional backdrop for that push — a semis-led bid that drives price up into the prior highs is exactly the exhaustion Meridian fades. But two gates stand in the way:

  1. The volatility gate likely blocks both QQQ and SPY. The prior-day (09-16 FOMC) ranges were large: QQQ 11.72 and SPY 11.96. Against the 1.25×-of-20-day-average ceiling, these are the largest prior ranges in the recent stretch (09-15's 10.21 already blocked QQQ at a 6.51 ceiling). A prior range this size is the classic FOMC-session artifact — the 1.25× gate exists precisely to skip the day after a vol spike. This is the most likely binding gate today.
  2. Even if the volatility gate passes, the sweep-completion gate is the structural binder. Across 09-09 → 09-15 the desk logged the sweep completion (the exhaustion up-push itself) as the binding gate on four sessions, via three different blockers. A relief-digestion day that fades rather than trends may never push price into the prior high with RSI(2) ≥ 88 — the briefing's own warning is that the bid may not hold once the open's relief is priced.

Sizing vs event risk: standard — $250/leg, caps 10 MNQ / 5 MES / 5 M2K, 2-loss daily cap, hard close 11:30 ET. No event risk to size against today. iwm_leg remains n=0 (no qualifying setup since the 2026-08-20 expansion; honest live anchor near ~56%, not the 73.3% headline) — not a today driver, but IWM's prior range (smaller, small-cap character) is the leg most likely to pass the volatility gate if QQQ/SPY block.

Key levels: QQQ prior high 711.76, SPY prior high 761.63 (sweep thresholds); ADX band 18–32; prior ranges QQQ 11.72 / SPY 11.96 against their 1.25× ceilings. The sweep levels are the ones that matter — a gap-up that pushes into them with exhaustion is the setup.

Invalidation / stand-down: if the volatility gate blocks QQQ and SPY (likely) and IWM's prior range also exceeds its ceiling, the session is a no-trade by rule. Also stand down if the tape drifts away from the prior highs (a fade, not a push) — per the 2026-06-18 lesson, reachable-in-principle is not likely-to-be-reached; a level sitting above a directionless open is necessary, not sufficient.

Mechanism health: SPRT CONTINUE — n=3 W2/L1, LLR +0.222, cumulative +$385.22, WR 66.7%; spy_leg n=1 WR 100%; iwm_leg n=0. No boundary risk. Today is a live-evaluation session — the first since 09-15 — and the sweep-completion gate is the one to watch.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-09-17 (pre-market, ~04:32 PT / 07:32 ET)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for active members only (Null, Meridian): yes. Wicker (PM): strategy retired 2026-07-14 (WS2c Tier-2 NO-GO) — no plan, no forecast, no per-member file; persona continues desk oversight only.
  • Firm-wide GO; event risk LOW (FOMC resolved yesterday, no Tier-1 today). Both active members' event gates are clean — this is a live, tradeable session, the first since 09-15. Null p_trade 0.25 / direction short / conviction low; Meridian p_trade 0.20 / direction short / conviction low. Both are "possible, not likely" calls on a relief-digestion day — the honest forecast is that the setup is live but the binding gates (Null: gap size; Meridian: prior-day range / sweep completion) are likely to block.
  • Reconfirmation ledger: no open item gates today. Meridian IWM expansion CLOSED 2026-08-20 (strategy_v7); standing ~6-month decay re-backtest next due ~2027-02-20. Wicker's feed/session re-run remains the desk's highest-priority open reconfirmation (unchanged, not a today blocker).
  • Carried watch: Null needs the cash-open gap to print in-band (0.1–0.7× ATR) — the futures imply ~0.99×, oversize; a smaller-than-implied open is the only path to a live fade. Meridian needs a tape that pushes a leg into its prior high with RSI(2) exhaustion — the prior-day ranges (QQQ 11.72 / SPY 11.96) likely trip the volatility gate first, and the sweep-completion gate has been structurally absent for four sessions.
