Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-17-pm.md PM: DELTA
Shared Market Read
- Event risk today: LOW — no Tier-1. The FOMC resolved yesterday (unanimous 25bp hike to 3.75–4.00%, median dot = one more hike this year). Today is post-decision digestion, not a decision day. Only scheduled reads: 8:30 ET Initial Jobless Claims (prior 206K) and Philly Fed (consensus 31.3 vs prior 47.4 — a sharp give-back implied), both MEDIUM, secondary. Firm-wide status: GO. Next Tier-1: PCE Sep 30 (DELTA's next hard-skip), NFP Oct 2, CPI Oct 14.
- Session character expected: News-driven / mixed — a post-decision relief gap-up that is likely to digest rather than trend cleanly. Two-way risk, not a clean one-way tape. The two live pivots: (1) does the semis bid hold once the open's relief is priced? (2) does the 10-yr re-assert toward 5% and re-apply the rate pressure? The briefing's pointer: on a hawkish-confirmation session the de-rated tech complex is the relative hold, not the default weak leg — so today's semis bid is a genuine signal, not a trap to fade reflexively.
- VIX regime: 16.02 (−1.69 vs 17.71 prior close) — LOW (<18). This is DELTA's best regime (dev PF 2.59 in VIX < 20) and nowhere near the 30 hard-skip. Favorable vol is real today — the engine runs.
- Key levels: DELTA's only load-bearing number is the leader's first-hour return off the 09:30 cash open, checked at 09:55, vs. the ±1.5% floor. Index context (briefing, Alpaca-verified): SPY 754.05 prior close, below SMA20 764.63, ATR(14) 6.44, prior-day range 749.67–761.63; QQQ 704.70, below SMA20 712.69, ATR(14) 8.19, prior-day range 700.04–711.76. Gap on the instrument-level pair inputs: the briefing carries no NVDA / ASML / AMD / TSM prices at any verified level — it is Alpaca-owned at the index/ETF level and gives only a directional semis read. The scanner's pre-market tape supplies directional single-name prints — AMD +2.1%, INTC +2.6%, MU +1.8%, AVGO +1.6%, SMH/SOXX +1.5–1.7% — adopted as direction and sector dispersion only, not as owned price levels (the briefing flags that pre-market magnitude tables conflict across providers at this hour). ASML/TSM carry no pre-market print in either document. No instrument-level price is adopted and none is invented; both pair inputs require live confirmation at the cash open.
- Macro backdrop: Post-FOMC relief — oil easing a second straight session (Saudi East-West pipeline restoration timeline), the 10-yr easing back from its 2007-high re-test (~4.98%, off the 5.04% 09-15 high), and a tentative bid led by the semiconductor/memory complex after weeks of de-rating. The AI complex's question remains "can they profit, and at what discount rate?" — the hike confirms the discount-rate headwind, but the de-rated complex is the relative hold today.
DELTA — Lead-Lag Pairs (NVDA→ASML, AMD→TSM), LONG-only
Call: No trade expected — the engine runs (not a skip day), but the day's live driver is a complex-wide semi relief bid, which is DELTA's structural stand-down. p_trade 0.10, direction long, conviction low. This is the first session in weeks where the pre-market lean is on the LONG side (the side this book can actually take) — but the shape is the binding gate, not the calendar.
- Primary reason — the structural stand-down, at its strictest because the repricing sits on DELTA's own instruments. The edge is an idiosyncratic design→manufacturer cascade (a leader's demand/capacity news telegraphing downstream to ASML/TSM over hours). Today's live driver is a complex-wide semiconductor relief bid — post-FOMC relief after weeks of de-rating, "AI chip rally breaks the software–semi link," broad across AMD/INTC/MU/AVGO/SMH. That reprices leader and laggard simultaneously on one systematic factor — systematic beta by construction, not a supply-chain cascade. Even if a leader clears +1.5% in the first hour, the move would read as sector relief / short-covering, which is exactly the failure mode the stand-down refuses. This is the same shape-block as 09-14 (fundamental-repricing gap on the complex), just on the up side.
- The honest tension, stated rather than sanded: unlike 09-14/09-15 (pre-market unanimously down, the interesting branch being the untradeable disabled-SHORT side), today the semis are bid and the pre-market lean is on the LONG side — the side DELTA can actually take. NVDA has not cleared +1.5% in the first hour since 08-03. So today is a genuine candidate for an up-impulse on the leaders, and the engine will measure it. But the briefing's own framing — a broad sector move, not intrinsic to any single name — is the structural stand-down condition. A qualifying first-hour move today would most likely be complex-wide AI/semi beta, not an idiosyncratic cascade. The stand-down binds; the setup is shape-blocked even though the number is reachable.
- Sizing vs. event risk: n/a — no position expected. Standard 0.75% single-position risk is moot if the structural stand-down holds. If — against the shape read — a leader clears +1.5% on a move that reads as genuinely idiosyncratic (laggard-leg news carrying independently of the leader), the standard 0.75% single-position sizing applies unchanged; no event-risk trim is needed because event risk is LOW and the hard 15:30 flat + 2.0× ATR stop carry zero overnight/event exposure regardless.
- Session-character fit: Poor by construction. A post-decision relief-digestion tape is a macro/beta session, not a pairs-convergence session. The two-way, may-fade character is the opposite of the clean idiosyncratic cascade DELTA's edge needs. The one path to a clean LONG is a leader that decouples from the sector bid and builds an idiosyncratic first-hour impulse — the distinguishing sign being the laggard-leg (ASML/TSM) news carrying independently of the leader.
- Up-branch / calibration status (carries forward, unchanged): The 09-04 pre-registered flag — a third NVDA up-graze inside ~0.3pp turns regime into a TEMPER calibration question — is not advanced today unless a leader actually clears the floor. The ledger stands: NVDA +1.23% (09-02), +1.02% (09-03), AMD +1.20% (08-31); 09-10 logged NVDA −1.44% (down-side, disabled-SHORT); 09-14 logged AMD −0.27% / NVDA −0.21% (leaders flat, starved shape). Today's pre-market bid is the first constructive up-fuel in weeks, but a sector-wide relief bid is not an idiosyncratic graze. Flag stays queued, untouched. No unilateral gate change.
- Invalidation / no-trade reasons: The structural stand-down is the binding gate today — a first-hour leader up-move that reads as complex-wide semi relief (sector bid / short-covering) is stood down, at its strictest because the repricing sits on DELTA's own instruments. Standing invalidation also applies: leaders opening broadly down ≥1.5% = the disabled-SHORT side (no trade by rule, not a missed LONG), and any intraday VIX ≥ 30 closes consideration. Next hard-skip: PCE Sep 30 (NFP Oct 2, CPI Oct 14).
- Book state carries forward untouched: Cumulative −$442.33 across 10 LONG trades (4W/6L, WR 40.0%, PF 0.494, SPRT n=10, LLR −0.159, CONTINUE). AMD→TSM sub-book n=8, WR 25.0%, PF 0.191 — the 09-05 stop-calibration diagnostic read NO (widening the stop does not rescue that cell: PF 0.073 → 0.119 across 2.0–4.0×, nowhere near 1.5), pending TEMPER cadence-ratification; signal/regime watch, not a parameter fix. NVDA→ASML clean cell 2W/0L remains the quality cell; its trigger has not recurred since 08-03.
- ✔ Operational item — carried forward, desk-top priority: the 09-15 runner failure is still an open observation hole.
intelligence/runner-health-2026-09-15.md (verdict REVIEW) lists delta | failed_or_timeout | missing: agents/delta/performance/daily_2026-09-15.md | runner_failed — delta was the only stack in REVIEW; the other nine completed. There is no trades.csv row for 09-15 and no plan-calibration.csv row, so 09-15's plan forecast (p_trade 0.04) is unscoreable and the session's leader first-hour returns were never captured — on a day whose plan flagged the semis gapping down hard into the disabled-SHORT side. This is the second observation hole in two weeks (09-09 and 09-15, both run-trades watchdog). Per the standing rule, a missing observation is not evidence of a near-miss and is not calibration evidence — it is a pipeline defect. Carried forward as: (a) backfill 09-15 and 09-09 standalone (python agents/delta/paper_trade.py , unset PYTHONPATH), and (b) the ledger-freshness post-run check — every active stack must have today's performance/daily_.md after run-trades, else flag — which now has two instances supporting it. Already logged in learnings.md 2026-09-10; the 09-15 repeat is the escalation case for wiring the check in rather than re-noting it. - Watch items (informational only — no action today): (1) whether NVDA/AMD decouple from the sector bid and build a genuine idiosyncratic first-hour up-impulse — the only path to a clean LONG, distinguished by the laggard-leg (ASML/TSM) news carrying independently of the leader; (2) whether the 10-yr re-tops toward 5% and snaps the semis relief — the transmission check that would turn today's bid into a fade; (3) the open event-day diagnostic run (skip disabled) — today is a clean, non-skip, LOW-VIX candidate window, still not performed, moderate priority, and not something DELTA runs unilaterally.
