Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-15-pm.md PM: VESPER — the evening star, the first light after the close.
Forecast: p_trade 1.0, direction long, conviction med.
On conviction, stated plainly so it cannot be misread as a skip or a de-risk: VESPER has no signal gate, no event filter and no skip logic — it takes the overnight hold every session, so p_trade is 1.0 by construction (cycle 43's exit books a real long trade this morning; cycle 44 opens tonight at 90% notional). med is not doubt about whether the trade happens — that is certain — and it is not permission to size down. It is the honest ex-ante discount on the quality of tonight's two-sided tail, and this is the third consecutive med (09-11 CPI-carrying, 09-14 FOMC−2d, now FOMC−1d); the desk's prior 37 plans were all high. The reason it is not high tonight is concrete, not atmospheric: the expected overnight dispersion is wider than a typical night — a pre-decision drift into a live binary with no Fed speakers left to shape it, a US macro print landing inside the window, and an active complex-wide repricing gap with a live headline channel. The reason it is not low is the desk's own record: the pre-event night is the premium's native habitat (the +36.33 bps PCE-eve hold of 08-25), and the phase's largest single-night win (+88.47 net bps) and its 4th-worst loss (−74.01) are adjacent cycles, both held at standard 90% with no skip and no conditioning. Do not import any other stack's skip logic here — VESPER has none to import.
Setup present: Yes — by design, always. There is no setup to wait for. Cycle 43 (Mon 09-14 16:00 entry 760.71, 29.93210 shares, $22,769.65 notional, 90.0% of $25,299.61 equity — open in the ledger) exits at the 09:31 bar open THIS morning, pricing the AI/semis repricing gap, the ten-year's break above 5.00%, and any Hormuz headline. At 15:50 tonight VESPER enters cycle 44 at the 16:00 auction-inclusive close, 90% of post-exit equity, held into Wed 09-16 09:31 — one observation, by rule. Both legs answered unconditionally.
Correcting the framing where it is mechanically wrong — and then answering the question anyway. The run brief for today frames tonight's hold as one that "straddles the FOMC decision and presser." It does not, and it structurally cannot. The decision lands 2:00 PM ET Wednesday — intraday. VESPER is flat by 09:31 every session and re-enters at 15:50/16:00, so no 2:00 PM release can ever sit inside a VESPER window: the stack's exposure surface is precisely the complement of the trading day. Tonight's cycle 44 (Tue 16:00 → Wed 09:31) closes 4 h 29 min before the print, and the presser follows the print. The same is true of next Tuesday's, and of every FOMC night in the validated sample. The decision-exposed carry of this phase is the Wednesday-night hold (Wed 09-16 16:00 → Thu 09-17 09:31) — that one carries the full post-decision + dot-plot + presser repricing overnight, and it is the phase's highest-information carry. It is not tonight's, and it is not a reason to touch tonight's.
What is genuinely inside tonight's window — stated precisely, because magnitude is the only thing the calendar can change here:
How the FOMC's next-open gap interacts with the overnight-risk-premium edge — the substantive question, answered directly. The premium is a session-structure edge: it is paid on the boundary itself (MOC 16:00 → next 09:31), harvested ~250 times a year, and measured as net bps/day, never as a win rate — on a drift edge WR is coin-flip by nature. The FOMC therefore interacts with the edge through exactly two channels: (1) magnitude — an event binary widens the overnight distribution on both sides, which raises variance without touching the mean; and (2) skew — pre-event positioning can bias the sign of one night's gap. Neither channel changes the mechanism, and the stack's own evidence says the event nights are inside the distribution, not a separate one. The 2018–2024 Phase 2 sample that cleared this strategy (n=1,759, gross 4.151 / net 3.151 bps/day) held every FOMC, CPI, NFP and PCE night by construction — an event skip was considered and rejected in Phase 2 (strategy_v2 §Entry Rules 5) precisely because the premium's habitat is the night the market is closed. Against that, the live record: the desk's deepest loss (cycle 34, −78.41 net bps) and its largest win (cycle 41, +88.47 net bps — the CPI-carrying Thursday-night hold, an event night the plan explicitly refused to skip) are adjacent cycles, both at standard 90% size. And cycle 41's +88.47 is not the resolution of a decision-exposed window either: the two-sided event carry — the one that receives the decision — is the Wednesday night into Thursday 09:31. So the honest answer to "does the FOMC warrant an event-aware size/direction adjustment tonight?" is: no — because the decision is not in tonight's window, and what is in it is the ordinary pre-decision drift the premium is paid to carry. Conditioning on it (a skip, a size-down, a direction flip) is not available to me: any conditioning must first beat the unconditional baseline in a Phase 2+ Bench study without destroying the ~250 obs/yr validation velocity — none has earned that, and no such study exists.
Session-character fit: Perfect by construction — the stack is never in the market while it is open. Today's two-tier, semis-down/energy-up/cyber-bid, repricing-driven tape is irrelevant to the mechanics; VESPER is flat by 09:31. The relevant character is overnight: VIX LOW at 17.24 (the regime the premium prefers), wrapped around a stepped-up expected dispersion, a same-window macro print, and an active fundamental repricing ahead of a genuinely live FOMC — which is the carry the hold is paid to take.
Monitors check (direct run — run live for this plan, 2026-09-15):
==> OK: premium intact. No DEGRADED flag. The only number that can ever stop me. (Reminder: the shared EOD generator has three times misread this monitor's readout — the 09-08 rule-description-footer-as-flag, and the 09-14 polarity inversion — neither is a live flag; this direct run governs.)flagged: []. Simulation only — fills price at the anchors, shortfall ≡ 0; decision-relevant only against real broker fills. Last realized round-trip ~1.0000 bps — on the ≤ 1.0 bps/day budget, no breach.Continuity note for the desk record: 42 completed cycles, cumulative net +$299.61 (gross +$395.16, commissions $95.53), mean +3.2551 net bps/day — essentially on the 3.151 cleared anchor; WR 57.1% (24/42) — not the benchmark, net bps/day is. At n=42 the SE of the mean is ~7.5 bps on the live realized SD of 48.38 bps (~12.3 bps on the ~80 bps modeled SD), so the mean traversing at-anchor → +5.14 → at-anchor over the last three filings is sampling, not decay; the decision-relevant read is the market-data mechanism watch (n=2,183, +5.796 trailing-250). Last six cycles: 37 −6.05 / 38 −10.61 / 39 −29.46 / 40 −60.15 / 41 +88.47 / 42 −74.01. Plan calibration: perfect scored rows since founding (Brier 0.0). The 08-07 dispatch hole and the 09-02 reflection gap remain the only record gaps.
Invalidation: None structural. An unconditional strategy has no invalidation condition by design. The kill discipline is the mechanism watch on market data (trailing-250 and trailing-500 < 0.655 bps/day gross → TEMPER review), checked daily, not resolvable intra-session, and not conditional on the FOMC, the dot plot, the presser, Retail Sales, oil, Hormuz or the semis. Tonight's cycle 44 has no skip trigger by design (rules 4 & 5) — it carries the pre-decision drift regardless. If this morning's 09:31 open gaps against cycle 43, VESPER takes and logs it; that is the price of the premium. A 2022-regime drawdown (≈ −11.4% on equity at 0.9 notional) is within tolerance and is not a kill signal; the −26.5% COVID drawdown (2020-02-12 → 2020-03-23, 8-month recovery) is inside the validated sample. The only stand-downs are force-majeure (closing-auction failure, account/regulatory constraint, exchange halt) — none indicated.
What I am watching: (1) Cycle 43's 09:31 exit print vs entry 760.71 — the Monday-night hold into the semis-led gap; no pre-assigned direction, either branch is one observation, not a finding. (2) Tonight's 16:00 auction print for cycle 44 — the Tuesday-night hold into Wed 09-16 09:31, at standard 90% unconditionally, carrying the pre-decision drift into day two of the FOMC meeting and Retail Sales (Aug) 8:30 AM Wed inside the window; no skip, no sized-down de-risk. (3) The Wednesday-night hold (16:00 Wed → 09:31 Thu) — the phase's genuinely decision-exposed carry, receiving whatever the 2:00 PM print, the dot plot and the presser do to the overnight tape; that is where this week's real informational content sits, and it is priced by tomorrow's plan, not today's. (4) The mechanism watch stays live-green (trailing-250 +5.796 / −500 +4.230 vs 0.655) — the only number that can ever stop me. After 09:31, flat and idle until 15:50 — doing exactly nothing, which is the discipline.

Plan reference: desks/house-vesper/plans/2026-09-15-plan.md EOD briefing: dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-15-eod.md PM: VESPER — the evening star, the first light after the close.
One desk, one member, one unconditional overnight stack. Single-session window since the 09-14 filing, and the ordinary Monday-night hold (cycle 43, carrying the AI/semis repricing leg, the ten-year's break above 5.00%, and the live Hormuz headline channel) resolved as a small LOSS — -10.5165 gross / -11.5165 net bps (-$23.95 gross / -$26.22 net). Cycle 43 entered Monday 09-14 at the 16:00 auction-inclusive anchor — 760.71 (29.9321 shares, $22,769.65 notional, 90.0% of $25,299.61 equity) — and exited at this morning's 09:31 bar open — 759.91; commission $2.28 ≈ 1.0014 bps, on the ≤ 1.0 bps/day budget, no breach, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0.
This is the smallest-magnitude loss since cycle 38, and it is the FOMC-eve containment the plan forecast. SPY gapped barely — prior close 760.75, today's open 760.11 (−0.084%) — and my 09:31 print came in 759.91, twenty cents under the open (−2.6 bps). The session then traded a contained, tech-led, two-tier downside: SPY closed 757.42 (−0.44% vs prior close, true range 4.58 = 0.79× ATR(14)) on a range of 756.18–760.32; QQQ closed 704.60 (−0.65%, 0.76× ATR); the 10-yr touched ~5.00%, its highest since July 2007; Brent closed ~$109 (+3.4% on the day, ~+20% on the month) as the energy leg extended and was the day's bid; Empire State Manufacturing (Sep) printed 7.6 against a 14.1 consensus (prior 20.6) — a sharp growth-caution miss, inside the window as pre-registered. VIX 17.20 (+0.10) — LOW (<18). The EOD graded the morning's event risk, driver, regime, two-tier shape and containment all STUCK.
The anchor is a fixed point, and today it received the favorable end of the session — the exact mirror of one session ago. My exit print (759.91) landed within 41 cents of the session HIGH (760.32) and 2.49 above the close (757.42) — i.e. the tape sold off ~33 bps further after I was flat, and the whole post-09:31 leg was against a long. On 09-14 the same anchor received the gapped-down resolution and the recovery happened after 09:31 (exit 758.71, close 760.75 — 27 bps below the close). Two consecutive sessions, two opposite signs, both pure session geometry rather than anything the strategy can act on: the 09:31 print is a time, not a judgement. Logged, not a finding — N=2 in each direction, no pattern, no fix (see Learnings).
Cycle 44 then opened at tonight's 16:00 anchor — entry 757.66, $22,746.05 notional, 30.02145 shares, 90.0% of post-exit equity $25,273.39 (ledger verified) — the Tuesday-night hold into Wed 09-16 09:31, entered at standard size with no skip and no conditioned sizing (rules 4 & 5). The mechanical correction the morning plan made now matters for how this carry is read: the FOMC decision + SEP + presser lands Wed Sep 16, 2:00 PM ET — intraday — and I am flat by 09:31 every session and re-enter at 15:50/16:00, so no 2:00 PM release can ever sit inside one of my windows. Cycle 44 closes ~4 h 29 min before the print. What tonight's window actually contains is the pre-decision drift into day two of the two-day meeting and Retail Sales (Aug), Wed 08:30 AM ET — inside the window, ~1 hour before my exit. The genuinely decision-exposed carry of this phase is Wednesday night (Wed 16:00 → Thu 09:31), and it is priced by tomorrow's plan, not today's.
Continuity for the desk record: 43 completed cycles, cumulative net +$273.39 (gross +$371.21, commissions $97.81), ≈ +125.1972 net bps (gross ≈+168.1972), mean +2.9116 net bps/day, win rate 55.8% (24/43) — not the benchmark. Plan calibration: perfect since founding (Brier 0.0); the 09-15 row scores perfect.
Session context (desk-level, for the record): a FOMC-gated, sub-ATR positioning tape, not a repricing-to-conclusion day — second straight modest down close, last hour flat (+0.01%), no sector breakout, both indexes below their 20-day SMAs for a second session. Irrelevant to this desk's mechanics by construction (flat by 09:31); it mattered only in the level it handed my two anchors — 759.91 out, 757.66 in.
Neither regime nor calibration — no gate of this desk was grazed, and the period is again an ordinary draw from a two-sided distribution, this time a small one. For an unconditional stack there is no setup gate to bind and no threshold to graze: the blocked= near-miss notes are empty by construction, always, and no p_trade gate was ever under consideration (p_trade 1.0, direction long, by design). The only kill-capable gate this desk owns is the market-data mechanism watch, and after today's exit it reads LIVE and GREEN:
==> OK: premium intact.flagged: []. Simulation only — fills price at the anchors, shortfall ≡ 0. Cycle 43's realized round-trip was ~1.0014 bps (roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0) — on budget, on a small loss night exactly as on a win night. The period's genuine content is the magnitude, and it is the least remarkable reading in weeks. −11.5165 net bps is a −0.30σ realization on the live realized sample SD of 47.86 bps (−0.14σ on the ~80 bps modeled SD) — the FOMC-eve containment doing exactly what the morning read said a positioning tape does: no directional conviction, no cascade, both legs of the two-tier complex in their assigned places. The last eight cycles — 36 +42.13 / 37 −6.05 / 38 −10.61 / 39 −29.46 / 40 −60.15 / 41 +88.47 / 42 −74.01 / 43 −11.52 — are the distribution sampling itself, with tonight's print landing between the two extremes that now sit adjacent in the book.
The one desk-level number genuinely worth stating, and the reason it is still not a gate read: cycle 43 pulled the realized net mean from +3.2551 (n=42) to +2.9116 net bps/day (n=43) — 0.239 bps below the cleared 3.151 anchor, the first sub-anchor read of the phase (it sat 0.104 above after cycle 42). At n=43 the standard error of the mean is 7.298 bps on the live realized SD of 47.86 (12.3 bps on the ~80 bps modeled SD), so the mean is 0.03 SE below its anchor — the same instrument, one tick further along the oscillation the desk pre-registered on 09-09/09-10, now confirmed in the third direction: at-anchor → +5.14 → at-anchor → below. Three observations cannot distinguish a mean that oscillates around 3.151 from one that has stepped to 2.9; the sample cannot, and the desk will not pretend otherwise. The decision-relevant read remains the market-data mechanism watch — n=2184 pairs, trailing-250 +5.693 gross, 8.69× its floor — which has held through every oscillation of the P&L mean and is the only monitor whose degradation would be evidence rather than sampling. No threshold grazed, no gate bound → no tweak, no TEMPER conversation on any gate.
Operational note: no runner-starvation recurrence, and both trades.csv rows reconcile to the ledger exactly (exit cycle 43 at 09:31:00 on 759.91; position-open cycle 44 at 757.66 / $22,746.05). But the shared EOD desk-summary's VESPER line now asserts a DEGRADED mechanism-watch flag that does not exist — the fourth consecutive session of the same generator misread class, and the first time it has asserted a flag rather than merely inverting the wording (see Learnings — flagged).
| Dimension | Rating (1–5) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Event risk call | 5 | HIGH held exactly — the literal, forward-loaded rule on FOMC decision + SEP + presser Wed Sep 16, one day out (the two-day meeting began today with no release), and both legs the plan named live — the AI/semis repricing and the rates blade — were the session's drivers. The EOD graded event risk STUCK. The plan's one inside-window item arrived as scheduled and sharper than consensus: Empire State printed 7.6 vs 14.1 cons / 20.6 prior, the growth-caution confirmation. The plan also made the mechanical correction that today validates: no 2:00 PM release can ever sit inside a VESPER window; the decision-exposed carry is Wednesday night, not tonight's |
| Session character call | 5 | Irrelevant to this desk's mechanics by construction (flat by 09:31) — but honest: the plan called a contained, tech-led, two-tier de-risk (semis down, energy bid, rates the swing variable) and explicitly refused to pre-assign magnitude, treating the FOMC-eve tape as positioning rather than repricing. The tape resolved as exactly that: sub-ATR on both indexes (0.76–0.79×), VIX LOW at 17.20, last hour flat, semis leading down, Brent ~$109 (+3.4%) the day's bid, the 10-yr touching 5.00%. EOD graded character, driver, two-tier and containment STUCK; no tier inversion |
| Setup prediction | 5 | Unconditional — the only forecast is exit/entry placement, and both landed where pre-registered: cycle 43 exited the 09:31 bar open at 759.91, cycle 44 entered 757.66 tonight at standard 90% size (30.02145 shares, $22,746.05 notional), the ordinary Tuesday-night hold into Wed 09-16 09:31 — no skip, no conditioned sizing |
| Adjustments | 5 | None made — 90% notional, 16:00 auction-inclusive anchor, 09:31 exit, all standard; no event-conditioned sizing into the FOMC-eve night (rules 4 & 5 — the HIGH rating did not alter the call, the size, or the hold, as the plan said it would not). Cost realized at ~1.0014 bps = the budget, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0, no breach |
Overall plan accuracy: 5 / 5. Machine-scored: the 09-15 plan forecast p_trade 1.0 / long / med; cycle 43's exit booked today is a real long trade (traded=1), direction long → long hit — Brier 0.0, extending the perfect scored run since founding. On the med: this was the desk's third consecutive med (09-11 CPI-carrying, 09-14 FOMC−2d, today FOMC−1d), taken as the honest ex-ante discount on a genuinely wider two-sided tail — a pre-decision drift with no Fed speakers left to shape it, a macro print inside the window, and an active complex-wide repricing with a live headline channel. The small-magnitude down branch printed — 0.30σ, exactly the low end of what the discount was describing rather than a surprise — and the per-night resolution of a dispersion discount is not a score of the discount itself. Conviction is not scored; the med stands as the correct posture, and the more important point stands with it: the med was never permission to size down, and the desk did not size down.
+2.9116 net bps/day at n=43 vs the 3.151 cleared anchor: 0.239 bps below, 0.03 SE at SE ≈ 7.298. This is the third leg of the pre-registered oscillation (at-anchor → +5.14 → at-anchor → below) filed on 09-09/09-10, not a new mechanism and not a gate. What would make it matter is not the P&L mean at all: it is the market-data mechanism watch degrading alongside it (trailing-250 and trailing-500 gross < 0.655). That monitor is at +5.693 / +4.179 — 8.69× / 6.38× its floor, n=2184 — and it is the only number whose motion would be evidence rather than sampling. Kill discipline is measured on market data (rule 4), never on P&L pain and never on the distance of a mean to a backtest reference value.learnings.md flag this period, on a repeatable generator defect rather than a trading finding. Prior filings treated the shared EOD desk-summary's mechanism-watch wording as a standing record-hygiene item caught one-at-a-time. Today's line is the fourth consecutive session of the same-shaped misstatement and the first that asserts a DEGRADED flag — it reads "⚠️ mechanism_watch flagged DEGRADED on execution cost (trailing-250 and -500 … gross mean < 0.655 bps/day) → run mechanism_watch.py and route to TEMPER for review" on a direct run that returns ==> OK: premium intact with both trailing means 8.69× / 6.38× ABOVE the floor. Three defects in one line: (a) false DEGRADED assertion, (b) inverted polarity (the 09-14 variant), and (c) conflation of the market-data mechanism watch with the execution-cost SPRT — a wrong monitor named. N=4 consecutive (09-08, 09-11, 09-14, 09-15) is a repeatable, same-shaped defect, and a false DEGRADED flag is operationally live: it routes an unnecessary TEMPER review off a monitor that cannot read itself. [Flag for learnings.md: the shared EOD desk-summary generator has misstated the VESPER mechanism-watch status in four consecutive sessions (2026-09-08, 09-11, 09-14, 09-15), culminating in asserting a DEGRADED flag — attributed to the wrong monitor (execution cost) — on a day the direct run returns OK: premium intact. Same class, same desk, same misread shape: the OK condition rendered as its own negation and the market-data watch conflated with the execution-cost SPRT. A downstream operator acting on that line would route a TEMPER review for a gate that is 8.69×/6.38× above its floor. The stack's own direct daily run governs; the generator line should be treated as unreliable for this desk until fixed.]performance/daily_2026-09-15.md reads "No trade taken today" / Session P&L $0.00 on a day a real trade booked (cycle 43's exit) — while its own cumulative line (+$273.39, n=43) correctly carries the realized −$26.22 and reconciles to the ledger to the cent. Identical on 09-11 and 09-14; unchanged generator convention, not a new gap, but it means that file alone cannot be read as "no trade booked" — the trades.csv row is the record. The 09-02 reflection gap remains a prior open item.trades.csv rows reconcile exactly to the ledger.learnings.md: the EOD generator's mechanism-watch line has misstated this desk's monitor in four consecutive sessions and now asserts a false DEGRADED flag.
