Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: HIGH — but with the same two-day framing DELTA has already absorbed: the FOMC decision + SEP + dot plot + presser is TOMORROW (Wed Sep 16, 2:00 PM ET). The two-day meeting begins today, yet no release lands today (Step-4 flags Tier-1 within ~2 days; at a 1-day lead on a decision, not minutes, literal-HIGH is the honest call). The FOMC is DELTA's next hard-skip — it closes Wednesday's session, not today's. Today's own US macro is light (Empire State + ADP weekly). Firm-wide status: GO, but direction capped into the binary. Calendar-clean is not setup-clean — today the setup is blocked by shape, not calendar.
  • Session character expected: Two-tier de-risk, fundamental-repricing gap — the tech/semi complex gapping down HARD on named catalysts while energy gaps up. This is the second consecutive session where the semis, not the broad tape, are the epicenter. Overnight: a Chinese state-backed firm began mass-producing a key chipmaking tool (DUV litho) — a fresh ASML-specific catalyst on top of the sector de-rate; the memory/storage complex (SK Hynix, MU, SNDK, AMD) is gapping down on a Korea spillover; the 10-yr broke above 5% (highest since 2007) layering a discount-rate shock onto the AI-capex-return doubt. The briefing is explicit: this is repricing, not a catalyst-adjacent dip, and it names lead-lag (DELTA) as confounded by a complex-wide semi repricing — DELTA's own structural stand-down.
  • VIX regime: 17.24 (+0.14) — LOW (<18), DELTA's best-performing regime (dev PF 2.59 in VIX < 20) and far under the 30 hard-skip. Favorable vol level is moot today — the shape is the binding constraint, exactly as it was yesterday.
  • Key levels: DELTA's only load-bearing number is the leader's first-hour return off the 09:30 cash open, measured at 09:55, vs the ±1.5% floor. The briefing carries per-instrument semi pre-market data today (NVDA ~−2.9%, AMD >−7%, ASML −7.25%, MU −5.3%, SNDK −13%, LRCX −9.0% per the scanner) — all on the DOWN side. SPY 760.75 prior close (below SMA20 766.06), QQQ 709.24 (below SMA20 714.61). The pair inputs still require live confirmation at the cash open; the directional read is unambiguous: the entire complex is gapping down into DELTA's untradeable (disabled-SHORT) side.
  • Macro backdrop: A rates- and oil-dominated, stagflation-tilted tape into a ~90-92% hike-priced FOMC — 10-yr at a 19-year high, Brent >$107 on the shut Hormuz bypass, and the AI complex's question hardened from "will they spend" to "can they profit, and at what discount rate?" Both blades of the long-duration repricing (cash-flow doubt + discount-rate shock) are sharp at once, and they are hitting DELTA's exact instruments.

DELTA — Lead-Lag Pairs (NVDA→ASML, AMD→TSM), LONG-only

Call: No trade expected — the day's live driver is a fundamental-repricing gap sitting directly on DELTA's own complex (NVDA, ASML, AMD, TSM all named and gapping down hard), so the structural stand-down applies at its strictest, and the pre-market direction points wholly at the disabled-SHORT branch. p_trade 0.04, direction none, conviction high. This is not a hedged maybe: the engine will run (today is not a hard-skip), but the shape that would have to appear for a clean LONG is at its structural floor.

  • Setup present: essentially absent, and shape-blocked even if a number prints. Today is not itself a hard-skip (today is not in the FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE set — the FOMC closes Wednesday), so paper_trade.py will evaluate both pairs at 09:55. But against DELTA's LONG-only gate the pre-market is unanimously down: NVDA ~−2.9%, AMD >−7%, ASML −7.25% — there is no clean up-fuel at the open whatsoever, so the plausible floor interaction is entirely on the disabled-SHORT (down) side, which is a no-trade by rule, not a missed LONG. NVDA has not logged a live LONG since 08-03; AMD→TSM is the degraded sub-book (n=8, WR 25.0%). A leader would need to reverse a hard gap-down and clear +1.5% up by 09:55 to even reach the LONG branch — a low-probability counter-trend event on FOMC-eve.
  • The blocking case — and today is the strongest version of it yet, worse than yesterday's: the overnight driver is a fundamental repricing of the semiconductor/AI complex on DELTA's own instrument set — ASML hit by a fresh name-specific catalyst (Chinese DUV litho mass production), memory/AMD by the Korea spillover, NVDA by the AI-valuation unwind, all on top of the 5% 10-yr discount-rate blade. DELTA's edge is an idiosyncratic design→manufacturer cascade (a leader's demand/capacity news telegraphs downstream to ASML/TSM over hours). A complex-wide AI-valuation unwind reprices leader and laggard simultaneously, on one systematic factor — so any qualifying first-hour move today would be complex-wide AI beta by construction, not a supply-chain cascade. The briefing reaches the same conclusion independently ("lead-lag (DELTA) stays confounded by a complex-wide semi repricing"). This stand-down binds harder than an ordinary macro day because the repricing sits on DELTA's own names, and it is the second consecutive session of the same shape.
  • Session-character fit: Poor — the worst-shaped session for this mechanism in weeks, and structurally identical to yesterday's stand-down. A news-driven, two-tier, fundamental-repricing gap on FOMC-eve is a macro/momentum tape, not a pairs-convergence tape. The AI/semi leg is repricing (continuation dead); the energy leg is a different complex entirely. The morning's first 30 minutes are gap-driven price discovery on a hard-down complex — DELTA's 09:55 leader measurement sits inside that discovery window, so even an attempted up-bounce would be gap-noise, not signal. The FOMC one day out caps directional conviction on top of the shape block.
  • Sizing vs. event risk: n/a if no trade; standard 0.75% single position if — contrary to expectation — a leader cleared AND the up-move read idiosyncratic rather than complex-wide. No size reduction is warranted for risk reasons: the book holds one position max, the hard 15:30 flat carries zero overnight/event exposure into Wednesday's binary, and VIX 17.24 LOW is DELTA's best regime. The binding constraint is frequency + shape, not risk-per-trade — there is nothing to trim on a session that is already shape-blocked at the gate.
  • Up-branch / calibration status (carries forward, unchanged): The 09-04 pre-registered flag — a third NVDA up-graze inside ~0.3pp turns regime into a TEMPER calibration question — is not advanced today. Today contributes no up-side signal evidence (the pre-market lean is hard down); the grazes stand at NVDA +1.23% (09-02), +1.02% (09-03), AMD +1.20% (08-31). No unilateral gate change. The binding constraint is the shape block, not any threshold graze.
  • Invalidation / no-trade reasons: (1) Leaders opening broadly down ≥1.5% on the semi-repricing gap = the disabled-SHORT side (LONG-only book) — by rule no trade, not a missed LONG (the 09-08 NVDA −1.55% no_trade:short_disabled and the 09-10 NVDA −1.44% are the templates). (2) A first-hour leader up-move that reads as complex-wide AI repricing (sector relief bid / short-covering) rather than an idiosyncratic supply-chain cascade — the structural stand-down, binding at its strictest today. (3) Any intraday VIX move to ≥30 closes consideration. Next hard-skip after today: FOMC Wed Sep 16.
  • Book state carries forward untouched: Cumulative −$442.33 across 10 LONG trades (4W/6L, WR 40.0%, PF 0.494, SPRT n=10, LLR −0.159, CONTINUE). AMD→TSM sub-book n=8, WR 25.0%, PF 0.191 stays queued for TEMPER (the 09-05 stop-calibration diagnostic read NO — widening the stop does not rescue that cell; signal/regime watch, not a parameter fix). NVDA→ASML clean cell 2W/0L remains the quality cell — but its trigger today is both low-probability and shape-blocked by the same complex-wide repricing on its own two names.
  • Watch items (informational only — no action today): (1) whether NVDA/AMD can decouple and build a genuine idiosyncratic first-hour up-impulse off a hard down-open — as opposed to riding a sector relief bid — the only path to a clean LONG, and one that reads as near-impossible into a one-day binary; (2) the semis' ability to stabilize intraday — the briefing's second blade-tell; stabilization re-opens fade fuel generally but does not by itself re-open DELTA's LONG (which still needs an idiosyncratic up-cascade), and a durable re-cascade excludes even the fade; (3) whether the gap presses semis into the disabled-SHORT branch, and — separately — the open event-day diagnostic run (skip disabled), still not performed, moderate priority.
  • Open operational item (desk-top, carries forward): the 09-09 observation hole persists — no execution row in trades.csv, no performance/daily_2026-09-09.md (the per-agent 60s run-trades watchdog skipped the stack 09-09/09-10; 09-10 was backfilled, 09-09 was not). It was the one session whose plan flagged the strongest pre-market up-fuel. A missing observation is not scored as a near-miss; the backfill and a ledger-freshness post-run check remain the fixes.
