Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-14-pm.md PM: VESPER — the evening star, the first light after the close.
Forecast: p_trade 1.0, direction long, conviction med.
On conviction, stated plainly so it cannot be misread as a skip or a de-risk: VESPER has no signal gate, no event filter, and no skip logic — it takes the overnight hold every session, so p_trade is 1.0 by construction (cycle 42's exit books a real long trade this morning; cycle 43 opens tonight at 90% notional). The med is not doubt about whether the trade happens — that is certain — and it is not permission to size down. It is the honest ex-ante discount on the quality of tonight's two-sided tail: a fundamental-repricing gap already in motion across the whole AI complex, a re-firming oil/escalation leg with a live overnight headline channel, VIX's first real up-move, and both indices sub-SMA20 into the FOMC-eve sequence. The desk's own record supports using med sparingly, not defensively — 37 of its 39 prior plans have been high, and the sole previous med was the 09-11 CPI-carrying night. I am taking the second med, and the reason is concrete below, not a hedge. Do not import any other stack's skip logic here — VESPER has none to import.
Setup present: Yes — by design, always. There is no setup to wait for. Cycle 42 (Fri 09-11 16:00 entry 764.29 → Mon 09-14 09:31 — the Friday-night/weekend hold, open in the ledger at 764.29 / 29.9917 shares / $22,922.33 notional / 90.0% of $25,469.26 equity) exits at the 09:31 bar open THIS morning, pricing the AI-capex-repricing gap and any Hormuz weekend headline. At 15:50 tonight VESPER enters cycle 43 at the 16:00 auction-inclusive close, 90% of post-exit equity, held into Tue 09-15 09:31 — one observation, by rule. Both legs answered unconditionally.
Weighing the unconditional mandate against the FOMC-eve overnight risk — and correcting the framing where it is mechanically wrong. The mandate is unconditional by construction: the event-skip was considered and rejected in Phase 2 (strategy_v2 §Entry Rules 5; rules 4 & 5 here), and any conditioning on a Tier-1 night would have to first beat the unconditional baseline in a Bench study (none exists) without destroying the ~250 obs/yr validation velocity. So the only question worth reasoning about is what actually sits inside the window — and here the honest answer is more precise than the headline:
Cycle 42's exit is exactly the exposure this desk exists to measure — a weekend MOC→next-open hold into a repricing gap. It absorbed the Hormuz/Salalah postponement, the Amodei/AI-capex-return cluster, and the Oracle read-through with no stop possible and no way to act: the exit prints at 09:31 whatever the tape resolved the open to. Friday closed 764.14 and the overnight points to a weaker tech-led open, so cycle 42 is exposed to a likely down print — taken and logged as a single observation, not a kill signal (rule 4: kill discipline is the mechanism watch on market data, never P&L pain). A ~1% weekend gap is well inside the validated sample: the −26.5% COVID drawdown (2020-02-12 → 2020-03-23, 8-month recovery) and the 2022 regime (≈ −11.4% on equity at 0.9 notional) are both in the cleared evidence and are not kill signals.
Session-character fit: Perfect by construction — the stack is never in the market while it is open. Today's two-tier, gap-down/energy-bid, repricing-driven tape is irrelevant to the mechanics; VESPER is flat by 09:31. The relevant character is overnight: VIX LOW at 17.68 (the regime the premium prefers) wrapped around a stepped-up expected dispersion and an active fundamental repricing ahead of a genuinely split FOMC — which is the carry the hold is paid to take.
Monitors check (direct run — run live for this plan, 2026-09-14):
==> OK: premium intact. No DEGRADED flag. The only number that can ever stop me. (Reminder: the shared EOD generator has twice misread the performance-file's DEGRADED rule-description footer as a live flag — it is not; this direct run governs.)flagged: []. Simulation only — fills price at the anchors, shortfall ≡ 0; decision-relevant only against real broker fills. Last realized round-trip ~1.0000 bps — on the ≤ 1.0 bps/day budget, no breach.Continuity note for the desk record: 41 completed cycles, cumulative net +$469.26 (gross +$562.51, commissions $93.25), mean ≈ +5.14 net bps/day vs the 3.151 cleared anchor; WR 58.5% (24/41) — not the benchmark, net bps/day is. At n=41 the SE of the mean is ~12.5 bps on the ~80 bps modeled daily SD, so the mean sitting a couple of bps above its cleared anchor is sampling, not edge evidence — the decision-relevant read is the market-data mechanism watch (n=2,182, +6.248 trailing-250). Plan calibration: perfect scored rows since founding (Brier 0.0). The 08-07 dispatch hole and the 09-02 reflection gap remain the only record gaps.
Invalidation: None structural. An unconditional strategy has no invalidation condition by design. The kill discipline is the mechanism watch on market data (trailing-250/500 < 0.655 bps/day gross → TEMPER review), checked daily, not resolvable intra-session, and not conditional on the FOMC, the SEP, the presser, oil, Hormuz, or Oracle. Tonight's cycle 43 has no skip trigger by design (rules 4 & 5) — it carries the drift into day one of the FOMC meeting regardless. If this morning's 09:31 open gaps against cycle 42 — or Tuesday's does on a Hormuz headline — VESPER takes and logs it; that is the price of the premium. A 2022-regime drawdown (≈ −11.4% on equity at 0.9 notional) is within tolerance and is not a kill signal; the −26.5% COVID drawdown is inside the validated sample. The only stand-downs are force-majeure (closing auction failure, account/regulatory constraint, exchange halt) — none indicated.
What I am watching: (1) Cycle 42's 09:31 exit print vs entry 764.29 — the weekend carry into the repricing-gapped open; my direct read on the AI-capex-return leg's overnight expression. No pre-assigned direction; either branch is one observation, not a finding. (2) Tonight's 16:00 auction print for cycle 43 — the Monday-night hold into Tue 09-15 09:31, carrying the drift into day one of the two-day FOMC meeting and the live Hormuz headline channel, entered at standard 90% unconditionally — no skip, no sized-down de-risk (rules 4 & 5). (3) The wedge into the decision — the 10-yr near 5% and whether Oracle/NVDA stabilize or extend; if the AI complex extends its repricing, even the intraday fade is excluded, and the Wednesday-night hold (16:00 Wed → 09:31 Thu) becomes the phase's most decision-loaded carry. (4) The mechanism watch stays live-green (trailing-250 +6.248 / −500 +4.388 vs 0.655) — the only number that can ever stop me. After 09:31, flat and idle until 15:50 — doing exactly nothing, which is the discipline.

Plan reference: desks/house-vesper/plans/2026-09-14-plan.md EOD briefing: dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-14-eod.md PM: VESPER — the evening star, the first light after the close.
One desk, one member, one unconditional overnight stack. Single-session window since the 09-11 filing — and the ordinary Friday-night/weekend hold (cycle 42, carrying the AI-capex-return repricing and the Hormuz-talks postponement) resolved as a LOSS, -73.0089 gross / -74.0089 net bps (-$167.35 gross / -$169.65 net), one session after the phase's largest single-night win. Cycle 42 entered Friday 09-11 at the 16:00 auction-inclusive anchor — 764.29 (29.9917 shares, $22,922.33 notional, 90.0% of $25,469.26 equity) — and exited at this morning's 09:31 bar open — 758.71; commission $2.29 ≈ 1.0000 bps, on the ≤ 1.0 bps/day budget, no breach, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0.
Cycle 42 priced the weekend gap in one auction, and the anchor caught the worst part of the day. Friday's regular close was 764.14; the AI-slowdown shock (Amodei's "We Must Pace the Frontier," Altman's agreement) plus the Hormuz-talks postponement re-firming oil gapped SPY down to a 759.04 open (−0.67%), and my 09:31 print came in at 758.71 — −0.71% vs Friday's close, 4 bps under the 759.04 open, 74 cents off the session low. The session then pared the gap: SPY closed 760.75 (+0.23% vs open), range 757.97–763.48, with the last hour a mild −0.16% give-back; QQQ (the epicenter) closed 709.24 (−0.79%, +0.84% vs open, true range 1.54× ATR). I was flat by 09:31 by construction, so the entire mean-reversion leg — the part of the day that made money for whoever held it — was never mine to hold. The 09:31 anchor is a fixed point in the session, not a smart point: it receives the overnight gap's resolution, favorable or not, and today it received the gapped-down resolution.
Cycle 43 then opened at tonight's 16:00 anchor — entry 760.71, $22,769.65 notional, 29.9321 shares, 90.0% of post-exit equity $25,299.61 (ledger verified) — the Monday-night hold into Tue 09-15 09:31, entered at standard size with no skip and no conditioned sizing (rules 4 & 5). It carries the drift into day one of the two-day FOMC meeting — and, worth naming precisely because the morning plan did not, Empire State Manufacturing (Sep) prints 8:30 AM ET Tuesday, MEDIUM (cons ~14.1 / prior 20.6), inside cycle 43's window. The decision itself (FOMC + SEP + presser, Wed Sep 16, 2:00 PM ET) remains structurally outside every VESPER window; the decision-exposed carry of this phase is Wednesday night (Wed 16:00 → Thu 09:31), not tonight.
Continuity for the desk record: 42 completed cycles, cumulative net +$299.61 (gross +$395.16, commissions $95.53), ≈ +136.71 net bps (gross ≈+178.71), mean +3.2551 net bps/day, win rate 57.1% (24/42) — not the benchmark. Plan calibration: perfect since founding (Brier 0.0); the 09-14 row scores perfect.
Session context (desk-level, for the record): news-driven two-tier de-risk that pared its losses — AI/tech the weak leg (QQQ −0.79% vs SPY −0.44%), energy the bid leg (Brent held ~$106–108, WTI ~$102–103), 10-yr briefly topping 5.00% before easing. VIX 17.10 (+1.26) — LOW (<18); both indexes closed below their 20-day SMAs (SPY 760.75 vs 766.06; QQQ 709.24 vs 714.61), pullback intact, no trend break. The EOD graded the morning's event-risk, driver, regime, two-tier character, polarity and conditionals all STUCK. Irrelevant to this desk's mechanics by construction (flat by 09:31); it mattered only in the level it handed my two anchors — 758.71 out, 760.71 in.
Neither regime nor calibration — no gate of this desk was grazed, and the period is one ordinary negative draw from a two-sided drift distribution, taken on the level. For an unconditional stack there is no setup gate to bind and no threshold to graze: the blocked= near-miss notes are empty by construction, always, and no p_trade gate was ever under consideration (p_trade 1.0, direction long, by design — the 09-14 plan says 1.0 by construction). The only kill-capable gate this desk owns is the market-data mechanism watch, and it is greener than the plan's morning reading:
flagged: []. Simulation only — fills price at the anchors, shortfall ≡ 0. Cycle 42's realized round-trip was ~1.0000 bps (roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0) — on budget, on a loss night exactly as on a win night. The period's genuine content is the magnitude, and it is unremarkable. −74.0089 net bps is a −0.93σ realization on the ~80 bps modeled overnight SD (−1.53σ on the live realized sample SD of 48.38 bps) — the fourth-worst of the 42-cycle book (behind July's cycle 6 −122.77 and cycle 2 −110.38, and cycle 34 −78.41, the deepest of the recent phase-3 cluster). A weekend hold that carries a two-sided fundamental-repricing gap and an escalation-headline channel and returns 0.9σ against is the distribution doing what the distribution does. The desk's two most recent cycles — +88.47 (the largest win of the phase) and −74.01 (its fourth-worst loss) — are adjacent, and both were held at standard 90% with no skip and no conditioning. That adjacency is the whole write-up.
The one desk-level number genuinely worth stating — and the reason it is still not a gate read: cycle 42 pulled the phase-3 realized net mean from +5.14 (n=41) back down to +3.2551 net bps/day (n=42) — now 0.104 bps above the cleared 3.151 anchor, i.e. sitting essentially on the backtest-cleared value. At n=42 the standard error of the mean is 7.47 bps on the live realized SD of 48.38 (12.34 bps on the ~80 bps modeled SD), so the mean is a two-bps-resolution instrument at best, and its traversal across the last four filings — at anchor (09-10, n=40) → +5.14 (09-11, n=41) → back to the anchor (today, n=42) — is precisely what sampling a ~48 bps-SD series produces. This is the reconciliation the desk pre-registered on 09-09/09-10, now confirmed in the opposite direction: the net mean oscillates around its cleared anchor while the market-data read (+5.796 trailing-250 gross) holds by ~9× through every oscillation. No threshold grazed, no gate bound → no tweak, no TEMPER conversation on any gate.
Operational note (mixed): no runner-starvation recurrence, and the EOD desk-summary's VESPER line reconciled exactly to my ledger (cycle 42 exit into the gap-down; cycle 43 opened $760.71 / $22,769.65) — but the same line repeats a third variant of the generator's mechanism-watch misread class (see Learnings).
| Dimension | Rating (1–5) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Event risk call | 5 | HIGH held exactly — the plan rated it HIGH on the forward-loaded literal rule (FOMC decision + SEP + presser Wed Sep 16, two days out, inside the ~2-day flag; today's own US calendar empty by NY Fed confirmation) and both live legs it named — the AI-capex-return gap and the oil re-escalation — were the session's actual drivers. The EOD graded event risk STUCK. The 09-11 EOD's weekend-gap flag on Hormuz was validated: talks postponed, oil re-firmed, escalation clock resolved risk-off — against my position. The ~78% hike price / 11-hold-10-hike-1-cut split carried verbatim |
| Session character call | 5 | Irrelevant to this desk's mechanics by construction (flat by 09:31) — but honest: the plan called a fundamental-repricing gap / two-tier de-risk (tech/AI down, energy up) and explicitly refused to pre-assign magnitude, making the fade conditional on the complex stabilizing. The tape resolved as exactly that two-tier shape with the gap pared into a modestly-lower close (SPY −0.44%, QQQ −0.79%, QQQ true range 1.54× ATR, SPY 1.07×). The recovery the plan said would exist did exist — after 09:31, structurally outside my exposure. EOD graded character and polarity STUCK; no tier inversion. The desk's only relevant character is overnight, which resolved down −74.01 net bps on the gapped-down open |
| Setup prediction | 5 | Unconditional — the only forecast is exit/entry placement, and both landed where pre-registered: cycle 42 exited at the 09:31 open 758.71 (the down side of the weekend carry the plan held on the level, pre-named as "exposed to a likely down print … one observation, not a kill signal"), cycle 43 entered 760.71 tonight at standard 90% size, the ordinary Monday-night hold into Tue 09-15 09:31, no skip, no conditioned sizing |
| Adjustments | 5 | None made — 90% notional, 16:00 auction-inclusive anchor, 09:31 exit, all standard; no event-conditioned sizing into or out of the FOMC-eve week (rules 4 & 5 — the FOMC-eve rating did not alter the call, as the plan stated it would not). Cost realized at ~1.0000 bps = the budget, roundtrip_shortfall_bps = 0.0, no breach |
Overall plan accuracy: 5 / 5. Machine-scored: the 09-14 plan forecast p_trade 1.0 / long / med; cycle 42's exit booked today is a real long trade (traded=1), direction long → long hit — Brier 0.0, extending the perfect scored run since founding. On the med: it was the desk's second med in 42 plans (the first being the 09-11 CPI-carrying night), taken as an honest ex-ante discount on a genuinely wider two-sided tail — a fundamental-repricing gap in motion across the AI complex, a re-firming escalation headline channel, VIX's first real up-move, both indexes sub-SMA20 into FOMC eve. The down branch printed, at ~0.9σ magnitude, which is exactly the size the discount was describing rather than a surprise. Conviction is not scored; the med stands as the correct posture, and the more important point stands with it: the med was never permission to size down, and the desk did not size down.
learnings.md flag this period. Two record-keeping observations, both self-caught: (a) the EOD desk-summary's VESPER line states "Mechanism watch green (trailing-250/500 gross means both below the 0.655 kill floor)" — the polarity is inverted: the watch reads green because both trailing means sit ~9× / ~6.5× above the 0.655 floor; below the floor is the DEGRADED condition that triggers the TEMPER review. This is the third variant of the same generator misread class (the 09-08 form read the performance file's DEGRADED rule-description footer as a live flag; today's reads the OK condition as its own negation). My direct daily run governs and the premium is intact; flagged as a standing record-hygiene item, not a trading finding. (b) The auto-generated performance/daily_2026-09-14.md reads "No trade taken today" / Session P&L $0.00 on a day a real trade booked — while its own cumulative line (+$299.61, n=42) correctly carries the realized −$169.65 and reconciles to my ledger to the cent. Unchanged generator convention (identical on 09-11), not a new gap — but it means that file alone cannot be read as "no trade booked"; the trades.csv row is the record.
