Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: HIGH — FOMC decision + SEP + presser Wed Sep 16 (2 days out) is the week's pivot (Sep hike ~78% priced; Reuters poll split 11-hold/10-hike/1-cut). No Tier-1 TODAY, so this is a live GO session (firm status GO) — neither stack hard-skips today. But the decision 2 days out caps directional conviction into mid-week.
  • Session character expected: Fundamental-repricing two-tier de-risk — an AI-capex-return repricing gap (Amodei "pace the frontier" essay + OpenAI Astra pause + Oracle data-center-profitability read-through → Nasdaq-100 futures ~-1.7%, S&P ~-0.7%, Dow ~flat) layered with an oil re-escalation leg (Brent >$107 on Hormuz talks postponed, XLE bid). Not a clean single-directional tape: tech/AI down vs. energy/commodities up. This is a repricing gap, not a catalyst-adjacent dip — continuation edges go dark inside one (Catalyst-Gap Containment).
  • VIX regime: 17.68, LOW (<18) — up +1.84 from Friday's 15.84 but still LOW. Neither KNN stack gates on VIX (it is not an input), so it activates neither member. LOW-VIX sub-ATR tape suppresses the ADX-gated continuation edge generally.
  • Key levels: SPY prior close 764.14 (below SMA20 766.84, ATR14 5.57); QQQ prior close 714.89 (below SMA20 715.70, ATR14 7.71). DIA not in the briefing block — recent Phase 3 band ~$515–535 (08-27 $535.71, 09-09 $524.85). >1.5% open gap either direction is each stack's standing pattern-library-thin-at-extremes invalidation — SPY ~-0.7% and Dow ~flat on current futures, so neither is expected to trigger, but QQQ's concentrated -1.7% tells the two-tier story.
  • Macro backdrop: Stagflation-tilted, FOMC-gated week — oil re-escalating (Brent >$107, Saudi East-West pipeline ~7M bbl/d still shut), 10-yr near 5% (2023 high), and the AI capex boom under explicit return-on-spend scrutiny. The operative question flipped from "will they spend?" to "can they profit from what they spent?" — Oracle is the poster child.

Desk-level verdict: Both active stacks are long-only KNN continuation on SPY/DIA — the exact class that is structurally hostile to a fundamental-repricing two-tier divergence day. This is a live GO day (no hard skip), so neither is excluded by the gate, but the setup is genuinely weak for both: the repricing gap kills continuation, and the two-tier divergence (tech down / value-ish Dow mixed with energy up) is the documented weak-session class for Family 5. Forecast honestly low, not zero, and not manufactured — the mechanism can still fire a decisive continuation vote, but today's character suppresses it.

MNEME — SPY, KNN (K=15, max_sim ≥ 0.50, vote ≥ 62%, long-only)

No trade expected, low-probability long — p_trade 0.2, direction long, conviction low.

Today is NOT a hard-skip day (no Tier-1) — my runner will observe all three windows and run the KNN query. The binding reason for the low call is session-character incompatibility, not the gate: this is a two-tier divergence session, and that is my documented structural weakness — the rotation-driven rally that reverses between the observation window and the execution window (Window B anchor suffered it on 07-24 and again 08-27, a two-tier divergence failure mode sitting at N=2). On a two-tier tape my library historically struggles to weight the fade risk because structurally-divergent sector-rotation sessions are thin in the 2020–2024 pattern library. Add the FOMC 2 days out suppressing intraday conviction, and a long-only broad-index continuation into an AI-capex-return repricing gap is the wrong structure.

Setup present: unlikely but not impossible. My gates (vote ≥62%, max_sim ≥0.50) passed-or-grazed recently (09-10 Window C double-graze vote 60%/sim 0.490 on the flagged weak window; 09-09 Window A grazed 60% on two-tier tape). If the AI complex stabilizes intraday, an overshoot reversal could give Window C a continuation vote — but a durable repricing extends and excludes even the fade. Net: honest p_trade 0.2, no forced fire.

Sizing vs. event risk: Standard 0.75% ($187.50) applies unchanged — this is a live day, and my sizing is never an event-risk input (the hard gate is, and it is not triggered). No defensive cut: cutting size on session character is not in my locked v5 SOP.

Key levels (SPY): prior close 764.14, prior range 763.63–766.35, SMA20 766.84, ATR14 5.57. A stabilization-and-reclaim of the 766.35 prior high would be the intraday tell a long continuation has fuel; a slice through 763.63 to the downside is the repricing-extends branch that kills it. >1.5% open gap either direction is my standing invalidation.

Invalidation: Standing >1.5% SPY open gap (not expected, futures ~-0.7%). Additionally, if the AI-repricing extends rather than stabilizes (SPY breaks prior-range low and stays there into the 10:00/12:00 entry windows), that is the durable-repricing branch that excludes a long continuation outright — stand down on character, not on any gate override.

TRACE — DIA, KNN (K=10, max_sim ≥ 0.60, vote ≥ 62%, long-only)

No trade expected, low-probability long — p_trade 0.15, direction long, conviction low.

Same live-GO framing as MNEME: no hard skip today, all three windows will be observed and queried. The binding reason for the low call is two-fold, both session-character: (1) long-only Dow continuation on a two-tier de-risk day is the wrong structure — DIA is the value/consumer leg, directly pressured by the 10-yr near 5% and oil, with only XOM/CVX as energy counterweight; (2) my DEGRADED clock is near the boundary — LLR −2.057, only −0.888 from the −2.944 DEGRADED threshold after the 09-09 strong-fire stop-out. That clock is explicitly not a sizing or force/suppress input, so it does not itself block a legitimate fire — but it sharpens the asymmetry: on a two-tier repricing day where my long-only edge is structurally weak, a fire that does occur is disproportionately likely to be the fragile-leg loss template.

Setup present: unlikely. My votes have been far sub-bar lately (09-10 A 40% / B 30% / C 40%, all sim above the 0.60 floor but all ≥22pp short of the 62% vote bar) — the mechanism has not produced a decisive continuation vote since the 09-09 fire that stopped out. Today's fundamental-repricing tape is the weakest character for it to re-engage. Event-day protection does not apply (today is not a blackout day), so this is a pure live forecast.

Sizing vs. event risk: Standard 0.75% ($187.50) unchanged — live day, size is not an event-risk input. The DEGRADED clock stays out of sizing entirely.

Key levels (DIA): not in the briefing block; recent Phase 3 band ~$515–535 (08-27 C-fire $535.71, 09-09 C-fire $524.85). A reclaim above ~$524.85 with the value leg holding despite the tech repricing is the only constructive sign; a two-tier extension down is the hostile branch. >1.5% open gap either direction is my standing invalidation (Dow ~flat on futures, not expected).

Invalidation: Standing >1.5% DIA open gap. On the character side, a durable-repricing extension into the value leg (DIA breaking down through its recent band while the 10-yr stays near 5%) is the branch that excludes a Dow long continuation outright — stand down on character. Also watching the DEGRADED clock: any qualifying fire today is the near-boundary decider; that is a monitoring outcome, not a suppress signal.
