Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM — no Tier-1 on the calendar today (Fed Barkin ~9:05/9:45 AM and the 1:00 PM 10-yr auction are the only watchable items). The live risk is the three-leg cost stack carrying the tape into CPI Friday, not the calendar — oil broke above $100 (Brent ~$100.58, first time in seven weeks, on Houthi strikes on Saudi tankers; Goldman ~$120 tail) + Canada's retaliatory tariffs (up to 50%, ~C$27.6B) now live with US escalation + the hawkish-Fed reprice (FedWatch ~56% Sept-hike odds). CPI Fri Sep 11 in 2 days is the gate; FOMC Sep 16 the destination.
  • Session character expected: news-driven / two-sided, contained, downside-weighted at the open — oil/tariffs set a lower open (index futures down, Dow ~-0.3%), but with CPI in 2 days and sub-ATR tape the recent norm, a clean trending extension is not pre-assignable. Direction refusal holds (the firm's coin-flip discipline). Two-tier: value/Dow leg fragile under cost pressure, tech/semis the offsetting leg. Irrelevant to a 5-day swing — I check IWM once at the open; I have no intraday view.
  • VIX regime: LOW (16.29, +0.57 vs 15.72) — still LOW regime, drifting up a third straight session on the oil/rates stack (risk tone, not realized vol). SPY (766.06) closed its first session under its 20-day; QQQ (718.43) held above — the two-tier divergence.
  • Key levels: For a swing stack the only binding level is ±4.97% on IWM's 5-day close-to-close return (85th-percentile dev calibration, held fixed). Structural refs on IWM ~$300 ceiling / ~$292 floor. Script-logged run settling at the last completed close (09-08): +0.04%.
  • Macro backdrop: A three-leg inflation/cost stack into FOMC week — hawkish-Fed reprice (hot NFP +162K, ~56% Sept-hike) + oil >$100 on the Houthi/Saudi supply shock (stagflation fuel) + a live Canada–US tariff escalation. Small caps (IWM) remain the persistent two-tier laggard — the leg most exposed to the oil/hawkish-rates downside driver.

Setup present: no — entry at today's open is mechanically out of reach. No trade expected.

Flat book (state/position_ledger.json → open_position: null), so no exit is due in the 5-day cycle today and nothing is held over the oil escalation. The only trade that could log today is an entry at today's open, gated by the run measured at the last completed close (09-08) — script-logged at +0.04%, far from the ±4.97% gate. No entry triggers at today's open. With one possible trade per session (an entry at the open from the prior close's flag; no exit due; no other path), a real trade today is mechanically excluded — p_trade 0.0, conviction high.

Notably, the 09-08 close flipped the 5-day run positive (+0.04%, vs −1.59% thru 09-04) — the Hormuz-de-escalation counterweight and tech/semi resilience that the 09-08 briefing flagged did lift small caps enough to erase the down-build. The down→contrarian-LONG leg that had been the closest to flagging all of Phase 3 (−2.95% thru 09-02) has receded entirely. There is no directional lean today: flat at +0.04% sits squarely between both legs.

Today is a measurement day resolving the 5-day window for the next entry opportunity: the run settling at today's close decides whether an entry fires at Thursday 09-10's open. From the +0.04% baseline, either leg needs roughly ±4.93pp of IWM today to reach the ±4.97% flag — a ~5% single-session move in either direction, tail-scale on a LOW-VIX (16.29) contained two-tier tape that the briefing refuses to give a trend call. The oil >$100 + hawkish-Fed press on the small-cap leg is the only remotely live path (a down→contrarian-LONG build), and even that needs a crash-scale small-cap day. A flag at today's close is not expected — this is the number to watch, not a trade to take today.

On the firm-wide GO and the 5-day hold: the intraday GO is a same-session stack's all-clear; as a swing stack my open/close/hold decision is governed by the 5-day cycle and my own ±4.97% run gate, not the intraday status. Today the cycle says flat-with-no-signal. The mechanism has no event-day override by design. Were a flag to settle at today's close, the contrarian entry at 09-10's open would hold days 1–5 = 09-10 → 09-15 (FOMC day 1, day 4) → exiting 09-17's close (FOMC decision Sep 16 is day 5), holding through CPI (day 2) and the full FOMC by design — inherent to the validated mechanism, COVID-tail-calibrated, not today's action. I have no position today, so nothing is exposed to the CPI/FOMC window.

This is regime, not calibration — the pre-registered 2026-07-24 read holds: range-bound-to-breaking IWM = unreachable ±4.97% threshold = expected behavior, not edge degradation. The down-leg build that peaked at −2.95% (closest of all Phase 3, 2.02pp short) stalled and now fully reversed to +0.04% — the two-tier regime keeps suppressing extremity in both directions, never grazing either threshold. The flat streak is now ~48 sessions (~2.8× the ~17-session expected inter-signal gap) — consistent with the range-bound regime suppressing signals, not an edge going quiet. SPRT sits at n=0, LLR +0.000 and correctly stays silent; the monitor must not flag on absence of setups. No TEMPER conversation warranted.

Sizing / adjustments: None — standard operating procedure. Nothing to size; the 15%-of-equity fixed-notional sizing (≈ $3,750 on $25K, single position, no stop/target/early-exit) is a locked mechanism with no event-day override by design. MEDIUM event risk is gate-irrelevant when flat with no signal and no scheduled exit.

What I'm watching (for the 09-10 window, not today's action):

  1. The 5-day run magnitude settling at today's close — the only number that matters; whether the now-flat +0.04% reading drifts toward either leg as the oil >$100 + hawkish-Fed stack presses the small-cap leg down (→ contrarian LONG entry at 09-10's open) or the tech/semi resilience catches small caps up (→ contrarian SHORT in a later window). Flat both ways today.
  2. IWM vs ~$292 — a decisive small-cap break below the multi-session floor on the oil/tariff escalation is the realistic path to a down-flag; a sustained catch-up toward $300 is the up-flag path in later windows.
  3. The escalation clock vs. the tech/semi counterweight — whether the oil/tariff cost stack can finally force a crash-scale small-cap down-day (the one live path to a contrarian-LONG entry), against the standing lesson that the offsetting leg keeps the composite contained and suppresses the extremity my signal needs. Resolves across today's close for a 09-10 entry, not today.

Invalidation: None applies — flat, no entry reachable at today's open (+0.04% thru 09-08 vs ±4.97%; either leg needs ~±4.9pp of single-session IWM, tail-scale even on the escalation), no scheduled exit, nothing held over the oil escalation. The news-driven two-tier tape does not bind an open-and-hold swing entry (no position today; any flag settling today enters 09-10's open). A no-trade day is the mechanism working as designed, not a failure.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-09-09 (pre-market, House Slack desk session)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for every active member: yes
  • Firm-wide status: GO (MEDIUM event risk) — gate-irrelevant for a flat swing stack; my open/close/hold is governed by the 5-day cycle, which today is flat-no-signal (no exit due, no entry reachable, nothing held over the oil escalation)
  • Expected action: no trade — no_trade:no_signal (blocked=run_magnitude, script-logged run thru 09-08 +0.04% vs ±4.97%; flat, no exit due; next entry window = Thu 09-10 open if today's close flags a run)
