Setup present: POSSIBLE / low-probability. p_trade 0.40, direction long, conviction low. This is the desk's first live window since the 09-03 loss and the 09-04 NFP skip; the event gate is CLEAR (LOW, GO) and the mega-cap earnings filter is clear (no top-10 QQQ name reported — GME is sub-$10B meme, not in the filter). But this is a fundamental-repricing-risk session, not a routine noise-gap day, and that is the exact population Null's thesis excludes.
Why the down-lean on probability rather than a flat no-trade: (1) the expected gap is modest (Nasdaq near flat pre-open) — if QQQ opens ~0.2–0.4% down (~1.5–3 pts) that lands inside the 0.1–0.7× ATR band (0.82–5.72 pts), the tradeable population; (2) QQQ sits above SMA20 (719.10 > 717.52), so trend alignment permits a gap-down long fade and blocks a gap-up (which is the mechanism's design on an up-trend); (3) no scheduled-event or earnings disqualifier. So the mechanism can fire on a genuine in-band reversal.
Why I won't stake more on it (conviction low): today's gap, if it forms, is more likely a fundamental repricing than a manufactured imbalance — an oil-supply shock + hawkish-Fed reprice is a genuine risk leg, the same breakaway-gap character the v2 thesis says to avoid ("days after major unscheduled geopolitical events" is in the strategy's trading-days exclusions). Null's live track has no code gate for this (it's doc-level guidance, not is_event_day), so the real arbiters today are the shape gates: (a) pre-market NQ volume vs 2× the 5-day average — a spiked geopolitical pre-market is Null's second independent stand-down condition and a live escalation is the classic trigger for it; (b) whether a clean 1-min FVG reversal actually forms off the open drive by 10:30. A one-way risk-off grind (gap widens through the morning) is the mirror of the 09-03 loss template (one-way trend-up grind that stopped the fade) and is the likeliest reason this session produces a no_trade or a stop.
Sizing vs event risk: standard 1 MNQ / 0.5% risk / one-position / 11:00 hard exit — no sizing adjustment; the mechanism's risk framework is ATR-normalized and unchanged. The event-risk throttle today is the gate stack (volume, trend, FVG quality), not a PM-sized reduction. If the gap opens larger than ~0.7× ATR (>5.7 pts) on the escalation, the ceiling filter blocks it outright — that is the cleanest protection.
Key levels: QQQ prior close 719.10 (fill target), prior high 721.84, prior low 716.61, 20-day SMA 717.52. Entry window 9:30–10:30 ET; hard exit 11:00.
Invalidation (live today): stand down if (a) gap size outside 0.1–0.7× ATR at the open, (b) QQQ gap-up above SMA20 (counter-trend fade blocked), (c) pre-market NQ volume > 2× the 5-day avg (institutional commitment to the risk leg), (d) no clean 1-min FVG by 10:30, or (e) the morning prints a one-way risk-off drive with no displacement/reversal candle — I do not force a long fade into a widening geopolitical selloff. The likeliest outcome is a no_trade row on the volume or trend gate; a trade is mechanism-faithful only on a clean in-band reversal.
Setup present: UNLIKELY / low-probability. p_trade 0.20, direction short, conviction low. Event gate CLEAR (LOW, GO). The vol gate is likely CLEAR too — prior session (09-04 NFP) printed a contained 5.23-pt range (QQQ 716.61–721.84, ~0.64× ATR), so the 1.25× prior-range ceiling is probably not the blocker (the 09-04 plan's "likely blocked" prediction did not materialize — worth logging as a calibration note: the NFP day was sub-ATR, not the wide-print base case).
The real blocker is session character, and TEMPER's Meridian learning (2026-06-18) applies directly: setup-likelihood for an upside prior-high sweep must weight expected intraday direction alongside level proximity; a level sitting above the open is necessary, not sufficient, and a directional context pointing away from the sweep direction warrants a lower rating. Meridian needs the tape to first rally up into QQQ prior high 721.84 / SPY prior high 772.85 and spike-reject with RSI(2) ≥ 88 inside an 18–32 ADX band. Today's character is downside-weighted at the open on a live geopolitical escalation — that is the wrong structural backdrop for an exhaustion push into prior highs; the base case is the tape drifting/trading away from (not into) those levels, and a first-session geopolitical open is price-discovery, not the manipulated sweep the mechanism trades. A bearish sweep would require the Hormuz route-deal counterweight to produce an actual relief rally into the prior high with genuine exhaustion — a conditional tail, not the base case. ADX after a long-weekend escalation open is also uncertain (elevated trending could blow the 32 ceiling; a low-ADX churn keeps it under the 18 floor) — either way the band is coin-flip today, which further suppresses setup likelihood.
Sizing vs event risk: standard $250/leg, cap 10 MNQ/5 MES/5 M2K, 2-loss daily cap, hard close 11:30 — no adjustment. Flat by default; only a clean exhaustion sweep on QQQ/SPY (and IWM, thin n=15, anchor near 56% not 73%) triggers anything.
Key levels: QQQ prior high 721.84, SPY prior high 772.85, IWM prior high per prior leg log. Bearish FVG entry off the swept high's displacement candle; 2.0× 5-min ATR stop beyond the wick.
Invalidation (live today): stand down if (a) vol gate blocked (prior range > 1.25× — only if the auction resets wide), (b) ADX outside 18–32 at signal, (c) no spike-and-reject off the prior high (the two-sided tape does not push up into it), (d) RSI(2) < 88 at the sweep, (e) no qualifying bearish FVG within 15 min. I do not short weakness — Meridian's edge is fading an exhausted up-push, and a downside-weighted geopolitical tape gives that nothing to fade unless it first rallies.

PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — desk covers active members Null + Meridian only) Briefing reference: dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-09-08-eod.md Cadence rule: weekly (Friday) or same-day-on-trade — WS5, in effect 2026-07-11. Today is a same-day-on-trade reflection (Null took a real trade). Period covered: 2026-09-08 (single session — prior desk reflection 2026-09-04 covered 09-01→09-03; Labor Day Mon Sep 7 was a no-daily-bar day). First live trading window since Fri Sep 4.
The desk's first live window since the 09-04 NFP skip produced one clean mechanism-faithful win and one correct stand-down — a net constructive session that also resolved the standing first-loss watch into a non-event. The tape was the modest-risk-off, two-tier, contained day the morning plan predicted (SPY −0.53%, QQQ −0.09%, both sub-ATR at 0.92×/0.82×; VIX 15.72 LOW, ticking up a second straight session on the oil/rates stack, not realized selloff). The live driver was the geopolitical oil escalation the plan flagged, not the calendar (event risk LOW held): oil neared $100 on fresh Houthi strikes on Saudi facilities, layered on live Canada tariffs and the hawkish-Fed reprice into FOMC week. Net desk paper P&L +$44.30.
adx_precheck val=16.8 (below 18 floor), SPY no_sweep prior_high=772.87 day_high=769.69 gap_to_level=+3.18 (never approached the sweep level), IWM adx_precheck val=17.0. $0.00. SPRT unchanged: n=3 W2/L1, LLR +0.222 CONTINUE, cumulative +$385.22, WR 66.7%; spy_leg n=1 WR 100%, iwm_leg n=0.Both desk forecasts were honest and landed clean on the p_trade axis (calibration rows confirmed: Null brier 0.16, Meridian 0.04 in plan-calibration.csv). Null's 0.16 is driven by the direction miss (forecast long, traded short) — a costless plan-scoring artifact for a gap-reversion strategy, not an edge failure. Meridian's 0.04 reflects a correctly-hedged p_trade 0.20 on a day the exhaustion sweep never had structural footing. No SPRT boundary crossed. Desk's first same-day-on-trade reflection under the WS5 cadence rule.
The morning narrative graded STUCK — the AM's event-risk, driver, two-tier polarity, and direction-refusal all held. For this desk the two load-bearing reads are: (1) QQQ gapped UP — the tech-resilient two-tier leg opened positive despite the oil-driven risk-off, and Null's fade of that up-gap was the desk's only clean signal; (2) the tape moved AWAY from Meridian's sweep levels — SPY's day high (769.69) closed the gap to its prior high (772.87) at +3.18, never approaching it on a downside-weighted value-led day. The plan's direction-refusal discipline (5-for-5) was vindicated: the session was genuinely two-sided, and each member's outcome followed from its own mechanism, not from a desk-level trending call.

Desk net paper P&L: +$44.30. Both SPRTs CONTINUE — no boundary crossing.
Null's binding "gate" this session was not a stand-down — his mechanism fired a real trade and won. The finding is a plan-direction calibration nuance: the morning plan leaned long (p_trade 0.40, expecting the geopolitical risk-off to gap QQQ down into a long-fade), but QQQ — the tech-resilient two-tier leg — gapped up above its 20-day SMA, and the mechanism correctly shorted that overextended up-gap back to the prior close (target 719.10 hit @ 09:35, +$44.30). The plan's own language said a gap-up would be "blocked" by trend alignment — that was an imprecise characterization of the mechanism, which fades whatever gap direction resolves and routinely shorts in-band up-gaps on an up-trend (08-05, 08-19, 09-08). The plan over-weighted the geopolitical downside and under-weighted QQQ's tech resilience.
no_sweep (regime — structural absence), with QQQ/IWM ADX below-floor grazes (LOW-VIX containment signature) — NEITHER calibration on any threshold; setup never had structural footingMeridian's binding gate was SPY no_sweep: prior high 772.87, day high 769.69, gap_to_level +3.18 (adx_open 19.6, in-band). On a downside-weighted value-led session the tape moved away from the sweep level — it never rallied up into 772.87, so no exhaustion up-push ever formed. This is the TEMPER 2026-06-18 learning applied live: level proximity above the open is necessary-not-sufficient; expected intraday direction pointed away from the upside sweep, so the setup was structurally improbable regardless of how the level sat. Regime — correct stand-down, no fix needed, wait.

Narrative finding: the desk's two members produced divergent but internally-coherent outcomes from the same shared market read — a two-tier geopolitical/Fed day that was downside-weighted in the value/Dow leg but tech-resilient. Null's fade of the up-gap (the resilient leg) captured the one clean reversal; Meridian's bearish-only short found nothing because the tape never pushed up into its sweep level. The direction-refusal discipline (5-for-5) is confirmed: the day was genuinely two-sided, and both outcomes fell out of each mechanism's own gates, not a desk-level trending call. No numeric gate threshold was "wrong" today — Null's miss was a plan narrative lean, Meridian's was structural absence plus a regime-containment ADX signature. Nothing to escalate, no unilateral tweak.
iwm_leg sub-book monitoring (carried). n=0 (adx 17.0 blocked today). Too thin to read; continues.Null took a clean mechanism-faithful win (QQQ short 720.22→719.10 @ 09:35, +$44.30) on the tech-resilient leg's up-gap — his plan forecast long but the mechanism correctly shorted the up-gap, a costless direction miss (brier 0.16) that reaffirms gap-direction-resolves-at-entry and keeps the 09-03 first-loss watch at N=1 (no cluster; n=13 WR 92.3% SPRT +2.038). Meridian correctly stood down on all three (SPY no_sweep +3.18 — tape moved away from the level on the downside-weighted day, the 06-18 direction-weighting learning applied; QQQ/IWM ADX 16.8/17.0 graze under the 18 floor) — brier 0.04, structural absence not calibration, no tweak. The load-bearing read is regime/mechanism-healthy on both sides: Null's finding is a costless plan-direction lean, Meridian's is the LOW-VIX two-sided tape suppressing the exhaustion-sweep footing. Desk net +$44.30; both SPRTs CONTINUE; nothing to escalate.
