Desk Plan — Reversal — 2026-08-27

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-08-27-pm.md PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — plan covers active members Null + Meridian only)

Firm-wide GO — but this is the day the desk's two mechanisms diverge

Firm-wide trade status is GO (no Tier-1 within 7 days; the only macro is the routine weekly claims print at 8:30 AM ET). But the dominant driver is corporate and single-name — Nvidia's beat-and-raise, gapping up sharply (+6%) premarket and pulling a tech-led gap-up (Nasdaq-100 +1%, S&P +0.5%, Dow +0.2%) — and that lands very differently on the two Reversal stacks. This is the cleanest possible illustration of the roster's split:

  • Null is a deterministic NO-GO — NVDA (the single highest-weight QQQ top-10 name) reported after the prior session's close, so the mega-cap constituent earnings hard filter — the exact exposure strategy_v2 was cleared to close — fires before any gap logic runs. The 08-26 plan flagged this expectation explicitly.
  • Meridian's window is OPEN (its hard skip is Tier-1 macro only; NVDA earnings is not Tier-1) — but the marquee gap has already consumed the prior-high sweep trigger, so its setup is structurally degraded and only fires on a fresh intraday drive-to-new-high exhaustion. Possible, not likely.

One market read, two very different calls. Do not blur them.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: LOW — no Tier-1 within 7 days. Weekly initial jobless claims (8:30 AM ET, ~208K forecast) is a routine low-impact print. Jackson Hole Day 2 continues; the live forward risk is Warsh's keynote Friday (08-28, 10:00 AM ET) — expect some pre-positioning caution / possible dry-up into it, and do not over-commit a one-day tech direction into that pivot.
  • Session character expected: Trending / extension bias on a tech-led gap-up, with explicit gap-fade risk. If NVDA holds its gap the AI complex extends; if the whisper-fade hits (NVDA fell the day after its report in 6 of the last 8 quarters), the complex gives back the pop and the tape churns. The direction is more assignable than a policy coin-flip (catalyst is corporate), but it is two-sided on the marquee name.
  • VIX regime: 14.94 (LOW, <18) — easing from 15.21. Both members' strongest historical cohort, but LOW-VIX sub-ATR tapes have been structurally suppressing setups all month (below-SMA20 drift, ADX suppressed).
  • Key levels (authoritative = pm briefing, Alpaca/IEX):
  • QQQ: prior close 711.28, prior-day range 708.13–713.02, SMA20 714.61 — QQQ below SMA20, ATR(14) 7.89.
  • SPY: prior close 765.94, prior-day range 763.94–767.32, SMA20 766.58 — below SMA20, ATR(14) 4.69.
  • The critical structural fact for this desk: a +1% Nasdaq gap puts QQQ's open well above its own prior-day high (713.02) — the gap clears the level Meridian's setup needs to sweep. Same for SPY (prior high 767.32) on a +0.5% open.
  • Macro backdrop: Nvidia's beat-and-raise refueled the AI trade and reversed the overnight whisper-fade; elevated yields into Jackson Hole the standing undercurrent. One sentence: a single-name (NVDA) repricing morning layered onto a LOW-VIX, below-SMA20 tape, with a central-bank pivot tomorrow capping how far the gap extends.

Null — MNQ/MES (gap fade / FVG)

No trade expected today — deterministic NO-GO on the mega-cap constituent earnings hard filter. NVDA reported after the prior session's close (08-26), and NVDA is on the strategy_v2 top-10 exclusion list — the exact concentration-risk exposure v2 was cleared to close. is_event_day(trade_date, tier_filter=2) returns before gap size, volume, or trend alignment are even read. Even setting that gate aside, the day is a double-reject: a +1% Nasdaq gap is far above the 0.7× ATR ceiling (≈5.5 pts vs QQQ ATR 7.89), and a post-earnings gap from the highest-weight name is fundamental repricing, not the thin-overnight imbalance the reversion thesis fades. This is precisely the 06-18 sequencing lesson: event filters sequence ahead of gap measurement. Setup present: NO (hard-skip, deterministic). Sizing: none. p_trade 0.0, direction none, conviction low (an un-hedged, sure no).

Context/calibration: SPRT CONTINUE (n=9, W9/L0, 100% WR, LLR +1.695); 9 of the first 30 on the 2026-WR watch (≤60% triggers mandatory review — currently 100%). Last live trade 08-25 was the with-trend gap-up short, ninth straight win (+$246.80). The 08-26 PCE day was a scheduled no-trade; today's NVDA-gap skip was pre-flagged in that plan. Next realistic surface: the first non-Tier-1, non-mega-cap-earnings session after the NVDA earnings-residual window clears — do not chase this session.

Meridian — QQQ/SPY/IWM (kill-zone prior-high sweep + RSI(2), bearish only)

Possible, low probability — and structurally compromised before the open. Meridian's window is open (Tier-1 skip only; NVDA earnings is not Tier-1), and the bearish marquee-gap fade is a live reversal candidate in spirit — if the AI complex over-extends and exhausts, fading it is exactly what Meridian is built for. But the mechanical trigger is degraded: Meridian marks the prior-session high and needs price to drive up into it and reject with RSI(2) ≥ 88 on a trend-character tape inside the ADX 18–32 band. On this tape QQQ gaps above its prior high (713.02) at the open — the sweep is consumed by the gap, not delivered by an intraday institutional drive. For a fresh signal the mechanism now needs price to extend from the open to a new high with exhaustion — a continuation/extension day, which is only the base case if NVDA holds its gap AND the AI complex extends, against the headwind of pre-Warsh positioning caution and the standing whisper-fade risk. Two-sided risk cuts against a clean one-sided over-extension.

Session-character fit: partial. ADX is the swing variable — a clean gap-up trend day likely spikes QQQ/SPY ADX above the 32 ceiling (blocking), while a fade-and-churn day suppresses it below 18; only a contained drive with in-band ADX admits the setup. IWM (the thin-n=15 expansion leg, honest live anchor ~56%) is the one leg that may not gap over its prior high — small caps lag a mega-cap-led AI rally — and is the leg to watch for a sweep on a relatively flat small-cap tape. Sizing: standard $250/leg — no event-risk reduction needed (event risk LOW; the 11:30 hard close leaves Meridian flat ~22 hours before the Warsh keynote). Key levels: QQQ prior high 713.02 (already cleared by the gap — a fresh intraday high, not the prior high, is now the trigger), SPY 767.32, IWM prior high (per open). Invalidation: if the gap fades outright (no drive to a new high, no RSI(2) ≥ 88) or ADX sits outside 18–32 on every leg, the day is a correctly-filtered no-trade — do not loosen the sweep/RSI/ADX/vol stack to manufacture frequency (standing rule). p_trade 0.25, direction short, conviction low.

Context/calibration: SPRT CONTINUE (n=2, W1/L1, LLR −0.175); spy_leg n=1 WR 100%; iwm_leg n=0. The 08-25 QQQ 5-sweep / no-RSI-exhaustion (max 46.5 vs 88) was regime, not calibration — the exhaustion confirm does real filtering; that pattern stays the watch. Today the gap itself removes the reach question.

Plan Filed

  • Filed: 2026-08-27 04:34 PDT (pre-market)
  • Frontmatter forecasts complete for active members only (Null, Meridian): yes. Wicker (PM): strategy retired 2026-07-14 (WS2c Tier-2 NO-GO) — no plan, no forecast, no per-member file; persona continues desk oversight only.
  • Firm-wide GO confirmed: no Tier-1 within 7 days; routine claims only; live forward risk is Warsh keynote Friday — do not over-commit a one-day tech direction into it.
  • Reconfirmation ledger: no open item gates today. Meridian's expansion CLOSED 2026-08-20 (IWM adopted, strategy_v7); standing ~6-month decay check next due ~2027-02-20. Wicker's feed/session re-run remains the desk's highest-priority open reconfirmation (unchanged, not a today blocker).
