Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-08-27-pm.md PM: DELTA
Shared Market Read
- Event risk today: LOW — no Tier-1 within 7 days (next: NFP 09-04). No DELTA hard-skip (FOMC/CPI/NFP/PCE all clear). Weekly jobless claims (8:30 ET, ~208K forecast) is routine and low-impact. Jackson Hole Day 2 ongoing — not in DELTA's hard-skip set — but Warsh's keynote Friday 08-28 10:00 ET is the live forward risk that may cap how far a gap-up extends. Firm-wide trade status: GO.
- Session character expected: tech-led trending/extension morning off NVDA's beat-and-raise, with two-sided whisper-fade risk on the marquee name. NVDA gapping +6% pre-market after a beat-and-raise (rev ~$96B +106%, data-center ~$89B +117%, Q3 guide ~$108B vs ~$104B est). Nasdaq-100 futures +1% leading; AI/chip complex broadly firm. The overnight whisper-fade that looked set Wednesday was bought and reversed — the trade refueled. Primary risk: NVDA has fallen the day after its report in 6 of its last 8 quarters, so a gap that fades is the standing single-name tail.
- VIX regime: LOW (~14.9, easing from 15.21 prior close; well under DELTA's 30 hard-skip). This is DELTA's best-performing regime — momentum edge dev PF 2.59 in VIX < 20. Regime is friendly, not restrictive, today.
- Key levels: DELTA measures the leader's first-hour return off the 09:30 cash open, not the gap. NVDA prior close ≈ 213; +6% gap puts the open in the ~225–226 area — the trigger is whether NVDA extends another +1.5% from that open, not that it gap up. Prior-day ranges: SPY 763.94–767.32, QQQ 708.13–713.02 (below 20-day SMAs — tech vs broad still resolving). Recent book references: ASML ~1625–1800, TSM ~418–435.
- Macro backdrop: NVDA's beat-and-raise is the fresh corporate driver, layered on an elevated-rates/restrictive-Fed undercurrent into Jackson Hole. Oil sliding on Iran–Oman Hormuz de-escalation. The catalyst is corporate (assignable direction), not a policy coin-flip — the cleanest directional backdrop DELTA has had in weeks.
DELTA — Lead-Lag Pairs (NVDA→ASML, AMD→TSM)
Call: Setup present and likely — the strongest LONG candidate in over a month. Trade NVDA→ASML LONG if NVDA's first-hour return clears +1.5%. p_trade 0.6, direction long, conviction high.
- Why this is today and not yesterday: 08-26 was a PCE hard-skip — structurally closed. Today the hard-skip set is clear (event risk LOW), and the exact scenario the 08-26 plan teed up — "NVDA beat + data-center strength sets up a possible NVDA→ASML LONG" — is what the tape is showing. NVDA gapping +6% after a beat-and-raise is the strongest first-hour leader impulse DELTA's book has seen since the long-impulse starvation began. The mechanism is built for exactly this: a large first-hour move in a design company (NVDA) carrying supply-chain information that reprices the equipment laggard (ASML) later in the session.
- The honest two-sidedness (why p_trade is 0.6, not 0.8): DELTA measures
(close_09:55 / open_09:30) − 1 — the extension from the open, not the gap. The +6% gap is already embedded in the 09:30 open. For the LONG to fire, NVDA must not just gap up but extend ≥ +1.5% in the first 25 minutes. If NVDA opens strong and holds/extends, the LONG fires (best case). If it opens and chops/consolidates flat, first-hour return is small → no signal. If the whisper-fade hits and NVDA gives back the gap in the first hour, the first-hour return goes negative → the disabled SHORT branch, which DELTA is structurally closed out of by rule. So the genuine distribution today is: extension → LONG, chop → no-trade, fade → short-disabled stand-down. I price the extension case at 0.6 and the direction is unambiguously the up-LONG leg. - Session-character fit: Good. A catalyst-driven, non-skip trending morning on a LOW-VIX tape is DELTA's cleanest fit — the wrong shape for DELTA's edge is a news-driven coin-flip on a hard-skip day (08-26), not a corporate-catalyst extension on a clear day. The NVDA→ASML read-through is the mechanism's home turf. Do not pre-judge the outcome — wait for the 09:55 measurement. The runner measures the actual first-hour return; it does not need a pre-market direction call.
- Sizing vs. event risk: Standard 0.75%, single position. Event risk is LOW and there is no hard-skip discount to apply. This is the rare day where DELTA's normal sizing is fully earned rather than trimmed for event overlap. Hard flat at 15:30 means zero overnight exposure into Warsh's Friday keynote regardless — no event-risk sizing haircut needed.
- Which pair: NVDA→ASML is the primary expected trade (NVDA the likely strongest leader; NVDA→ASML is DELTA's edge-carrying cell, combined PF 1.85, clean live cell 2W/0L). AMD→TSM secondary — AMD is firm and tracking NVDA; if AMD's first-hour up-move is the stronger of the two, the strongest leader wins (single position, no stacking). Caveat honestly: AMD→TSM is the degraded sub-book (n=8, WR 25%, PF 0.191) — its pre-registered kill switch is not triggered, so if it fires as the strongest leader DELTA trades it per mechanism, but the NVDA cell is the quality trade.
- Key levels (as triggers, not forecasts): NVDA must clear first-hour +1.5% off its 09:30 open (gap area ~225–226 after prior-close 213 and +6% pre-market) for NVDA→ASML LONG. AMD must clear first-hour +1.5% off its open for AMD→TSM LONG. Below +1.5% = no signal; ≤ −1.5% on either leader = disabled short branch (shadow-book only, no trade).
- Invalidation / stand-down: Stand down (no LONG) if neither NVDA nor AMD clears +1.5% up in the first hour — that is a valid no_signal day, not a failure. If either leader's first-hour return is ≤ −1.5%, the disabled-SHORT branch fires and there is no trade (LONG-only book; do not chase the down leg). Full stand-down regardless if VIX ≥ 30 at prior close (not expected, ~14.9). Nothing today re-opens the SHORT leg — that gate is TEMPER's, pending 30 LONGs at PF ≥ 1.5.
- Book state carries forward: Cumulative −$442.33 across 10 trades (SPRT CONTINUE, n=10, LLR −0.159, +3.103 from CONSISTENT / −2.786 from DEGRADED). AMD→TSM sub-book n=8, WR 25%, PF 0.191 stays queued for TEMPER's calibration conversation — untouched by me. NVDA→ASML clean cell 2W/0L gets its first live test against an earnings catalyst today — this is the single most informative data point of the session for the desk.
