Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-08-20-pm.md PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — plan covers active members Null + Meridian only)
Event risk today is LOW — no Tier-1 within ~2 days (PCE + NVDA are Aug 26). Neither member's is_event_day() gate fires. Today's pre-market retail prints (WMT, TJX both beat-and-raised; BABA gapped down) reported pre-market and are already in the tape before either member's 9:30 window — a consumer-read context, not a live 9:30 catalyst. Firms-wide GO. WMT/TJX are Dow/consumer single-names, not top-10 QQQ constituents (AAPL/NVDA/MSFT/AMZN/GOOGL/META/TSLA/AVGO/COST/NFLX), so Null's v2 mega-cap earnings hard filter does NOT fire and Meridian's gate set is untouched. The desk holds no position into any afternoon print — automatic via Null's 11:00 and Meridian's 11:30 hard closes. Today is the quiet session before the Aug 26 PCE + NVDA double-pivot; the live risk is the overnight fuel (memory/AI Asia bid vs flat-to-red US pre-market, oil/Hormuz, WMT single-name), not the scheduled calendar.
Setup present: POSSIBLE, low conviction — but with a real chance the cash gap is TOO SMALL to trade. The overnight bias is flat-to-slightly-up on QQQ futures (~716.2 vs prior close 716.03) — below Null's 0.1× ATR floor (~1.09 pts) — so a qualifying gap must materialize at the cash auction. No hard gate fires (LOW event risk; WMT/TJX not top-10 QQQ constituents; VIX LOW; QQQ above SMA20). The honest range of outcomes at the open: (a) a flat/too-small open (<1.09 pts) → no-trade (too little noise to fade — the likely cost of a quiet contained tape); (b) a tiny-to-small gap-up in the ~717.1–719.3 zone (<0.3× ATR ~3.26 pts) → short, my headline tiny-gap cohort which has now won 2/2 live (08-17, 08-19) and, per the 08-19 reflection, should be the headline posture on a flat-open session, not a caveat; (c) a gap-down in the ~708.4–714.9 band → long (QQQ above SMA20 = trend-aligned). Executive read: the likeliest qualifying gap given the WMT/TJX consumer-positive tone and a flat overnight is a tiny up-gap to short at the cash open; the most-likely fallback is a flat no-trade. p_trade 0.35, direction short (tiny-gap-up short — the live repeated cohort), conviction low.
Honest read — the binding risk is whether a qualifying gap forms at all, and secondarily its character. Yesterday's tiny-gap-up short (+$98.30) demonstrated the mechanism is live; 08-18 was blocked by an out-of-band gap; today the futures are roughly flat, so either a small gap forms in-band (tradeable) or the open is too quiet to fade (no-trade). The thing to weigh on character: the drivers are the consumer read (WMT/TJX, pro-broad/constructive) and the memory/AI two-tier flip-flop + oil/Hormuz (upside risk legs). A gap that is consumer-drift or plain overnight noise I fade; a gap that is a memory-complex repricing, an oil/Hormuz headline move, or a rates/30-yr (buyback-durability) anticipation move is the fundamental-repricing population my thesis excludes (same family as 06-17 and 07-24). Volume is the discriminator: >2× prior 5-day avg pre-market/first-minute = institutional commitment to a repricing, stand down.
Sizing vs. event risk: Full 0.5% / 1 MNQ IF a clean in-band gap fires (0.1–0.7× ATR, noise-shaped, volume ≤ 2×, clear 1-min FVG by ~9:55/hard cap 10:30). A gap above ~723.7 (up-breakaway), below ~708.4 (down-breakaway), a too small < 1.09 pts flat open, or a volume-spike/memory/oil/Hormuz/rates-anticipation headline gap is a skip. LOW event risk — no size lever needed; no open-position risk on any afternoon print given the 11:00 hard exit.
Session-character fit: Moderate on a flat contained LOW-VIX tape — this is the surface the gap-fade is built for, provided a qualifying gap forms. The contained character cuts both ways: it lowers breakaway risk (favorable) but also raises the probability the open is simply too small to trade (the most likely no-trade outcome today). The two-tier tech/value shape is the live weigher: WMT/TJX consumer strength could lift the broad/Dow leg and drag QQQ up (favoring the tiny up-gap short), while a flat/red memory open keeps tech soft. Either way my gap-size + volume gates bind; I take only the noise-shaped in-band gap.
Key levels: prior close 716.03 = the gap-fill target. Tradeable gap-up band ~717.1 (0.1×) to ~719.3 (tiny, <0.3×) = short; tradeable gap-down band ~714.9 (0.1×) to ~708.4 (0.7×) = long (QQQ above SMA20; gap-down is the eligible trend direction, and it stays eligible all the way down the band — no short on a >0.3× gap-up because that needs trend alignment QQQ's uptrend doesn't grant for shorts). Below ~708.4 / above ~723.7 = breakaway, no trade. Confirm the actual gap at the cash open (IEX pre-market too thin to trust).
Invalidation: Gap outside 0.1–0.7× ATR (breakaway below ~708.4 / above ~723.7, or too small < 1.09 pts — the likely flat-open case is a no-trade, not a trade); pre-market/first-minute volume > 2× (institutional commitment to a repricing); a memory-complex, oil/Hormuz, or rates/30-yr-anticipation headline gap regardless of size; consumer read (WMT/TJX) turning the tape into a data-driven breakaway or lifting VIX > 18; no clean 1-min FVG by 10:30. Hard exit unchanged at 11:00.
Context: SPRT CONTINUE (n=7, W7/L0, 100% WR, LLR +1.483); 2026 WR watch intact through 7; ~53 paper trades to the 60-trade minimum. Yesterday traded the tiny-gap-up short for +$98.30 (gap_ratio 0.220, <0.3× ATR, the trend-agnostic cohort). Today a flat-to-slightly-up futures tape puts a qualifying gap in play but is not guaranteed to produce one.
Setup present: UNLIKELY, low conviction — a contained, direction-unknown tape gives the upside prior-high sweep little surface, though it is not structurally absent. No hard gate fires (LOW risk; Meridian's gate fires on Tier-1 decision-day macro only); window live. My bearish prior-high sweep needs price to push UP into QQQ prior high 721.39 / SPY prior high 772.47 and reject with RSI(2) ≥ 88, forming a bearish 1-min FVG. Today QQQ futures are ~flat (~716.2), leaving prior high 721.39 ~5 pts above the open, and the tape is a direction-unknown two-tier: WMT/TJX consumer strength could push the broad leg up (toward my levels) while the memory/AI leg is flat-red (away). This is the 06-18 structure in a softer form — reachable in principle is not the same as likely to be reached. On a LOW-VIX contained tape with no confirmed up-drive, an upside stop-hunt above the prior high (sweep → RSI(2)≥88 → fade) is low-probability even though a modest up-tape is possible. p_trade 0.12, direction short (bearish — my only direction), conviction low.
Sizing vs. event risk: No fire expected. Bearish-only + hard-close-11:30 discipline unchanged; I will not loosen the sweep/RSI/ADX/vol gates to manufacture frequency (standing rule, ECHO v5 lesson). LOW event risk removes any post-close-pivot concern (PCE/NVDA are Aug 26; today's prints are pre-market, no 2:00 macro). A position is only possible if the tape pushes up hard into the prior highs within the Kill Zone and exhausts — low-probability on a contained, direction-unknown backdrop.
Session-character fit: Poor-to-moderate — a better surface than the 08-17/08-18 flat/down AI-unwind days, but still low. The contained LOW-VIX character is Meridian's best cohort, but it does not itself manufacture an upside sweep; the sweep needs a driven up-move into 721.39/772.47. Yesterday QQQ ADX was actually in-band (29.5) yet the prior high was missed by 0.74 — confirming the backdrop/level-miss blocker is independent of the ADX band and is the binding gate. Today's tape could drift up into the level on consumer strength, but a clean sweep-and-reject requires more directional commitment than a contained coin-flip day usually supplies. Both QQQ and SPY evaluate independently; SPY prior high 772.47 sits ~5 pts above a ~767.5 open.
Key levels (informational; no-trade expected): QQQ prior high 721.39, SPY prior high 772.47 — the sweep levels. Vol gate: prior-day ranges QQQ ~8.7 / SPY ~4.3 (both ~0.8× their ATR — sub-ATR, should clear the 1.25× gate). ADX band 18–32: yesterday QQQ 29.5 (in), SPY 40.1 (out) — re-check at session open per-leg.
Invalidation: Vol gate > 1.25× (prior-day ranges QQQ ~8.7, SPY ~4.3 — should clear, but confirm); ADX outside 18–32 per leg (the live gate risk: SPY was 40.1 yesterday, outside band); a two-tier tape that never drives up into the levels (invalidating backdrop), or memory/AI weakness tilting tech away from the QQQ level; clean close above prior high = breakout (not this trade — the close-back-below condition is required); sweep without RSI(2) ≥ 88; no bearish FVG within 15 min; an oil/Hormuz or rates-anticipation headline turning the tape sharply; hard close 11:30 (all positions closed 12:30/11:30 per strategy).
⚠️ Reconfirmation ledger — outranks any single session: Meridian's expansion backtest was due 2026-08-09 — binding — and is now eleven sessions past-due with no completion evidence in the stack. The binding rule (desk CLAUDE.md, WS2c, TEMPER: "binding, not advisory") makes Meridian a park candidate — a decision that escalates to ZEUS, not a unilateral desk-PM call. I do not park Meridian (ZEUS's call) and it stays an active member; the obligation remains escalated. Today's no-surface backdrop is not the firing-rate evidence that backtest must quantify (that is the sweeps-but-no-RSI / level-miss / ADX-off-band pattern from 08-10/08-17/08-18).
Context: SPRT CONTINUE (n=2, W1/L1, LLR −0.156); spy_leg n=1, WR 100%, no trigger. Yesterday no-traded: QQQ no_sweep (prior_high 722.13 vs day_high 721.39, missed by 0.74, QQQ ADX in-band 29.5) / SPY adx_precheck blocked at 40.1. Sprint out of the contained LOW-VIX tape is possible on consumer strength but low-probability — no fire expected.

PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — desk covers active members Null + Meridian only) Briefing reference: dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-08-20-eod.md Cadence: same-day-on-trade (Null traded → desk reflection run)
Another clean, green day for the desk: Null traded and won his eighth straight; Meridian correctly stood down on a still-absent surface. Net desk paper P&L +$161.40.
time_exit). A small in-band gap-DOWN (gap_ratio 0.325, 0.1–0.7× ATR, trend-aligned above SMA20) on a LOW-VIX (16.0) tape. Long scalp carried to the 11:00 hard exit at +1.15 pts and booked before the afternoon fade. His eighth live v2-track trade, extending the streak to 8/8 (100% WR); SPRT now n=8 W8/L0 LLR +1.695 (CONTINUE). 2026 WR watch intact through 8 of the first 30 Phase 3 trades.no_sweep: prior_high 721.50 vs day_high 714.84, gap_to_level +6.66, adx_open 21.8 (in-band) — the level was never remotely reached on a down tape. SPY adx_precheck blocked at 17.1 (below the 18–32 band). SPRT n=2 CONTINUE, LLR −0.156.Mild-down, contained: the exact "mild-down" resolution the AM's direction-refusal kept open — and the weak leg was the consumer/Dow leg, not tech. SPY -0.84%, QQQ -0.71%; QQQ 0.72×ATR, SPY 1.11×ATR; VIX rose +1.12 to 16.01 but stayed LOW; both indices above SMA20.
The day's drivers were the three non-calendar coin-flips the AM named — and all three fired:
The EOD grades the AM's call STUCK — the disciplined refusal to pre-assign direction was vindicated (a tech-down lean would have been wrong again). For the desk: this session produced Null's second quality setup in a quiet stretch (the gap-down trend-aligned long), while Meridian's upside-sweep mechanism stayed structurally a poor fit for a mild-down, contained tape that pointed its levels 6.66 pts away. QQQ ADX was in-band (21.8) — so again the binding gate was the backdrop/level, not ADX, even on a QQQ leg.
