Desk Plan — Reversal — 2026-08-18

Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-08-18-pm.md PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — plan covers active members Null + Meridian only)

⚠️ Event-day distinction (read before the per-member calls)

Import Prices (8:30) + HD earnings (pre-market, call 9:00) are MEDIUM/second-tier and TRADEABLE — firm-wide GO. No Tier-1 hard skip fires for either member: Null's macro filter (is_event_day(tier_filter=2)) covers FOMC/NFP/CPI/PCE only, and Meridian's is_event_day() gate fires on the same Tier-1 set. No top-10 QQQ constituent (AAPL/NVDA/MSFT/AMZN/GOOGL/META/TSLA/AVGO/COST/NFLX) reported earnings — HD, BIDU, AS, Klarna are none of Null's excluded names, so the mega-cap earnings hard filter does not fire. Both live windows are open. FOMC Minutes land TOMORROW (Wed 08-19, 2:00 PM) — the desk does not over-commit a one-day direction into that. The live risk is the character of today: a tech-led downside gap on the AI- valuation wobble + oil/rates tail, a genuinely different surface from Monday's mildly-positive tape.

Shared Market Read

  • Event risk today: MEDIUM — Import Prices (8:30) + HD Q2 earnings (pre-market, call 9:00). No Tier-1 within the session; FOMC Minutes Wed 08-19 (2:00 PM) is the week's policy focal point, tomorrow. The live non-macro driver is the AI-valuation wobble in the memory complex (reversal of Monday's Anthropic bid) + the oil/Hormuz + 30-yr-at-2007-highs (5.31%) rates tail.
  • Session character expected: Event-driven, two-tier, tech-led downside gap with a value/Dow floor. Nasdaq futures ~-1.1%, S&P ~-0.5%, Dow roughly flat at pre-market — a clean two-tier shape (tech/AI weak, value/Dow defensive). News-driven, not a clean trending leg; the memory names that ran +9% Monday are gap-reversal candidates if the pullback is profit-taking, or accelerate lower if AI-valuation doubts deepen.
  • VIX regime: 15.83 (LOW, <18) — both members' strongest historical cohort (Null backtest LOW-cohort WR ~80%; Meridian's lone live win logged LOW). A breakaway-VIX day this is not; but the tech-led gap itself is the directional signal, and an AI-valuation headline deepening could lift it.
  • Key levels (authoritative = pm briefing, Alpaca/IEX):
  • QQQ: prior close 729.95, prior high 734.56, prior low 729.27, SMA20 705.76 — above, ATR(14) 12.28. Pre-market thin — confirm the gap at the cash open. Null's tradeable band below prior close (0.1–0.7× ATR) ≈ -1.23 to -8.60 pts → ~728.7 to ~721.4. Meridian's prior-high sweep level 734.56 sits ~5 pts above a flat open (far above a gap-down open).
  • SPY: prior close 772.62, prior high 776.74, prior low 772.51, SMA20 757.67 — above, ATR(14) 7.77. Pre-market thin.
  • Macro backdrop: Uptrend intact but paused at the record (both above SMA20, three straight weekly gains); the AI/memory complex — which lifted the index Monday — is leading it down today on valuation nerves and profit-taking, not a demand break, while value/Dow holds the floor. The 30-yr at 2007 highs presses on long-duration tech. For a reversion desk, today's downside gap is the most actionable reversal surface in a week — but it is a catalyst/valuation-driven gap, the population a reversion thesis must treat with care.

Null — MNQ/MES (gap fade / FVG)

Setup present: POSSIBLE, low conviction — today's tech-led gap-DOWN is the eligible direction, and the only question is whether it is noise-shaped or the catalyst/breakaway population. No hard gate fires (Import Prices/HD not Tier-1; no top-10 QQQ earnings; VIX LOW). QQQ above SMA20 makes gap-down (long) the eligible trend direction — exactly what the futures are pointing to. A qualifying gap-down needs to land in the 0.1–0.7× ATR band (~-1.23 to -8.60 pts below 729.95 → ~728.7 to ~721.4), open with volume ≤ 2× prior 5-day avg (noise-shaped, not institutional commitment), and produce a clean open-drive reversal + 1-min FVG by ~9:55 / hard cap 10:30. p_trade 0.30, direction long, conviction low.

Honest read — the binding risk is the character of the gap, not its existence. A Nasdaq -1.1% gap on the AI-valuation wobble is sector/macro-driven, not thin-overnight noise — the fundamental-repricing population my thesis excludes (same family as the 06-17 FOMC and 07-24 INTC observations). The briefing explicitly says the driver is valuation/profit-taking "not a demand break," which is ambiguous: if the memory pullback is profit-taking in a still-intact uptrend, a small gap-down (especially < 0.3× ATR, ~3.68 pts, where my tiny-gap trend-relaxation exception makes both directions live and the fill thesis is strongest, 78%) could genuinely be noise-shaped and fill. If it's a deeper valuation repricing (>0.7×, ~-8.6 pts) or high-volume breakaway, I stand down. The plan's job today is not to pre-assign direction by SMA20 alone (the 08-17 miss) — the gap is real, so I anchor likelihood to gap size and volume character, leaving the fill direction to how the drive resolves.

Sizing vs. event risk: Full 0.5% / 1 MNQ IF a clean in-band gap-down long fires (0.1–0.7× ATR, noise-shaped, volume ≤ 2×, clear 1-min FVG by ~9:55/10:30), but a gap below ~721.4 (breakaway) or a volume-spike/Hormuz/AI-headline gap is a skip. No size lever on the fundamental-repricing case. FOMC Minutes tomorrow caps conviction — a one-way reversion into an AI-valuation gap is not a high-commitment day.

Session-character fit: Moderate — and a real step up from Monday. A genuine tech-led downside gap is the surface gap-fade is built for, and LOW VIX (best cohort) is favorable. The two-tier shape (tech weak vs. Dow flat) is the one thing to weigh: the gap-down is tech-led, so the reversion target (prior close 729.95) is a real level, but a two-tier rotation could bleed tech all day without a clean fill if the AI-valuation story deepens. The retrace-floor near-miss from 08-13 (0.30 vs 0.50 floor) remains my open calibration question, but today at least offers the drive for it to bind on.

Key levels: prior close 729.95 = the gap-fill target for any long. Tradeable gap-down band ~728.7 (0.1×) to ~721.4 (0.7× ATR) below prior close; below ~721.4 = breakaway, no trade. Tiny-gap < 0.3× (~726.3 and above) is my strongest fill cohort and is trend-agnostic. Confirm the actual gap at the cash open (IEX pre-market too thin to trust).

Invalidation: Gap outside 0.1–0.7× ATR (breakaway or too small); pre-market/first-minute volume > 2× (institutional commitment to the AI-valuation move = fundamental repricing); a Hormuz/oil or AI-valuation headline gap regardless of size; Import Prices or a hot HD read turning the tape into a data-driven breakaway or lifting VIX > 18; no clean 1-min FVG by 10:30. Hard exit unchanged at 11:00.

Context: SPRT CONTINUE (n=6, W6/L0, 100% WR, LLR +1.27); 2026 WR watch intact through 6; ~54 paper trades to the 60-trade minimum. The 08-17 tiny-gap-up short (gap_ratio 0.158, +$75.30) proved the tiny-gap exception is live and tradeable.

Meridian — QQQ/SPY (kill-zone sweep + RSI(2), bearish only)

Setup present: UNLIKELY — a tech-led gap-DOWN, value/Dow-defensive tape is structurally the WRONG backdrop for a bearish prior-HIGH sweep. No hard gate fires (Import Prices/HD not Tier-1); window live. My bearish prior-high sweep needs price to push UP into QQQ prior high 734.56 / SPY prior high 776.74 and reject with RSI(2) ≥ 88, forming a bearish 1-min FVG. Today the futures are gapping down ~1% in tech, i.e. the tape is pointing away from my upside sweep levels, and the prior highs now sit ~5 pts (QQQ, up to ~13 pts on the gap) above the open — far and with the directional momentum running against reaching them. This is the 06-18 learning in its cleanest form: "reachable in principle is not the same as likely to be reached" — an upside sweep needs price to push up into the level, and a down-drifting AI-valuation tape is the wrong structural backdrop for it regardless of how close the level sits. p_trade 0.12, direction short (bearish — my only direction), conviction low.

Sizing vs. event risk: No fire expected. Bearish-only + hard-close-11:30 discipline unchanged; on a gap-down, downside-tilted tape the sweep surface is structurally absent — I will not loosen the sweep/RSI/ADX gates to manufacture frequency (standing rule, ECHO v5 lesson). A position is only possible if the tape reverses up hard into the prior highs and exhausts within the NY Kill Zone — low-probability on this backdrop.

Session-character fit: Poor. A tech-led downside-gap, value-defensive session is the antithesis of the backdrop that produces an upside stop-hunt above the prior high. The ADX read is the one live question: a directional tech-led gap could lift 15-min ADX (Monday SPY pre-check was 15.5, below the 18 floor; QQQ a low coil) — but if it does, it lifts ADX in a down direction, which points the tape further away from the upside sweep levels, not toward them. Either way the sweep is blocked: low-ADX coil below floor, or elevated-down outside the band. The near-miss pattern (sweeps-but-RSI-capped, levels missed, ADX off-band) is the firing-rate cost that keeps recurring — and today is a backdrop where even the surface is unlikely to form.

Key levels (informational; no-trade expected): QQQ prior high 734.56, SPY prior high 776.74 — the sweep levels, now ~5–13 pts above a gap-down open and pointed away from by the tape. A close above the prior high on a two-tier day would be a breakout, not this trade.

Invalidation: Vol gate > 1.25× (prior-day ranges QQQ 5.29, SPY 4.23 — sub-ATR, should clear); ADX outside 18–32 (the live risk: a down-tilted tape either coils low below the floor or lifts ADX in the wrong direction); a down-drifting/tech-bleeding tape turning away from the upside levels (invalidating backdrop, not enabling); clean close above prior high = breakout; sweep without RSI(2) ≥ 88; no bearish FVG within 15 min; Import Prices/HD/AI-headline turning the tape sharply down (wrong backdrop); Hormuz headline mid-sweep; hard close 11:30.

⚠️ Reconfirmation ledger — outranks any single session: Meridian's expansion backtest was due 2026-08-09 — binding — and is now seven+ sessions past-due with no completion evidence in the stack. The binding rule (desk CLAUDE.md, WS2c, TEMPER: "binding, not advisory") makes Meridian a park candidate — a decision that escalates to ZEUS, not a unilateral desk-PM call. I do not park Meridian (ZEUS's call) and it stays an active member; the obligation remains escalated. Today's structurally-absent sweep is not the firing-rate evidence that backtest must quantify (that evidence is the sweeps-but-no-RSI / level-miss / ADX-off- band pattern from 08-10/08-17); this is a no-surface backdrop.

Context: SPRT CONTINUE (n=2, W1/L1, LLR −0.156); spy_leg n=1, WR 100%, no trigger. Today's backdrop points the tape away from the sweep levels — no fire expected.
