Briefing reference: /Users/dadbot/Desktop/ClaudeBod/projects/dadbrain/Analysis/briefings/2026-08-14-pm.md PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — plan covers active members Null + Meridian only)
Retail Sales (8:30) + Michigan (10:00) are MEDIUM/second-tier and TRADEABLE — firm-wide GO. Neither is a Tier-1 hard skip for either member: Null's macro filter (is_event_day(tier_filter=2)) covers FOMC/NFP/CPI/PCE only, and Meridian's is_event_day() gate fires on the same Tier-1 set. No top-10 QQQ constituent reported earnings — AMAT (the overnight sell-the-news mover) is NOT on Null's mega-cap exclusion list (AAPL/NVDA/MSFT/AMZN/GOOGL/META/TSLA/AVGO/COST/NFLX). Both live windows are open. The risk is the character of the day, not a code-enforced skip. Note the two-window handling: Retail Sales at 8:30 makes the open data-driven (structure may not form until ~9:30–9:45), and Michigan at 10:00 lands inside Null's 9:30–10:30 entry window — the plan handles that below.
Setup present: UNLIKELY — the base case argues against the only eligible setup (a gap-down long). No hard gate fires (Retail Sales/Michigan not Tier-1; AMAT not a top-10 QQQ name; VIX LOW). But QQQ above SMA20 means only gap-DOWN fades (long) are eligible, and the briefing's base case is a benign retail print that extends the record-high tape up — i.e. QQQ opens flat-to-firm, no qualifying gap-down. A qualifying gap-down would require either a hot retail surprise or the AMAT/oil leg dragging the tape — and either driver makes the gap catalyst-driven (the fundamental-repricing population my thesis excludes — same family as the 06-17 FOMC and 07-24 INTC observations). A gap-up/flat open is trend-blocked or too-small. p_trade 0.22, direction long, conviction low — honest: the live window is open and LOW VIX is my best cohort, but today's base case is structurally against a clean in-band gap-down, and the likely gap-down drivers are exactly the ones I exclude.
Two-window entry handling: (1) Retail Sales at 8:30 makes the open data-driven — do not trust a 1-min FVG until structure forms past the initial price-discovery bar (~9:30–9:45). (2) Michigan at 10:00 sits inside my 9:30–10:30 entry window — a clean setup must form and I enter by ~9:55, or I treat the 10:00 print as a minor disruption and do NOT force an entry in the final ~25 minutes around it; a position open into a benign Michigan is acceptable (second-tier, benign-expected), but a hot Michigan that jolts the tape means stand down rather than chase a late-window entry.
Sizing vs. event risk: Full 0.5% / 1 MNQ IF a clean in-band gap-down long fires (gap 0.1–0.7× ATR, open noise-shaped, volume ≤2×, clear 1-min FVG by ~9:55/10:30), but I expect no fire today. A gap-down is only traded if it behaves like thin-overnight noise, not a data/AMAT-driven breakaway. No size lever to pull on a likely no-setup day.
Session-character fit: Poor. A trending-up, record-extension day is the wrong surface for gap-down mean reversion; even the conditional (hot retail/semis-fade) case produces catalyst gaps I exclude. This is a watch day, not a setup-in-hand day.
Key levels: prior close 732.11 = the gap-fill target for any long. Tradeable band for a gap-down long: ~730.75 (0.1×) to ~722.6 (0.7× ATR) below prior close; a gap below ~722.6 is breakaway — no trade. Confirm the actual gap at the cash open (IEX pre-market too thin to trust).
Invalidation: Gap outside 0.1–0.7× ATR; gap-up or flat (trend-blocked/too-small above SMA20); pre-market volume >2×; Retail Sales hot enough to turn a gap into a data-driven breakaway or lift VIX >18; Michigan hot at 10:00 disrupting a forming setup; no clean 1-min FVG by 10:30; Hormuz/geopolitical headline gap regardless of size. Hard exit unchanged at 11:00.
Context: SPRT CONTINUE (n=5, W5/L0, 100% WR, LLR +1.060); 2026 WR watch intact through 5; ~55 paper trades to the 60-trade minimum. First post-stand-down live window fired yesterday as a possibility; today's base case is less cooperative.
Setup present: POSSIBLE — the base case is the most favorable backdrop in days, but the reversal is conditional on the uptrend exhausting at the prior high, not breaking through it. No hard gate fires (Retail Sales not Tier-1); window live. My bearish prior-high sweep needs price to push up into QQQ prior high 733.94 / SPY prior high 779.37 and reject with RSI(2) ≥ 88, forming a bearish 1-min FVG. The benign-retail base case that extends the record-high tape is a genuine tailwind to REACHING those prior highs — better than yesterday's AI-gap-down backdrop, which pointed the tape away from the levels. But my 06-18 learning applies in the mirror: reaching the level is necessary, not sufficient — I need a rejection (close back below after the sweep), and on a record-high risk-on uptrend the more likely outcome is the prior high gets consumed as a breakout (clean close above = not a sweep), or 15-min ADX sits elevated (>32) after three up days and gates before any sweep forms (my known ADX-block failure mode). The reversal is genuinely possible only if the tape exhausts right at the level. p_trade 0.27, direction short (bearish — my only direction), conviction low.
Sizing vs. event risk: Full $250 / capped contracts IF a clean bearish sweep fires, but I do not expect one. Bearish-only + hard-close-11:30 discipline unchanged; no sizing lever on a likely no-setup day, and I will not loosen the sweep/RSI/ADX gates to manufacture frequency (standing rule, ECHO v5 lesson).
Session-character fit: Moderate-to-poor. A trending-up day reaches the levels (favorable) but usually breaks them rather than reversing (unfavorable). The two-sided case (hot retail or broad semis fade) is the wrong backdrop for an upside sweep. Only a clean exhaustion-at-the-high produces the institutional stop-hunt-above- prior-high this signal needs.
Key levels (informational; no-trade expected): QQQ prior high 733.94, SPY prior high 779.37 — the sweep levels. A benign-retail extension makes them reachable today (better than the last several sessions), but reaching ≠ sweeping.
Invalidation: Vol gate >1.25× (prior-day range vs 20-day avg — QQQ Thu range 9.87 should clear); ADX outside 18–32 (elevated after three up days — the live gate risk); clean close above prior high = breakout (not a sweep); sweep without RSI(2) ≥ 88; no bearish FVG within 15 min; Michigan/hot-retail turning the tape down fast is an invalidating backdrop for an upside sweep; Hormuz headline mid-sweep; hard close 11:30.
⚠️ Reconfirmation ledger — outranks any single session: Meridian's expansion backtest was due 2026-08-09 — binding — and is now five sessions past-due (08-13, 08-12, 08-11, 08-10, 08-07) with no completion evidence in the stack. The binding rule (desk CLAUDE.md, WS2c, TEMPER: "binding, not advisory") makes Meridian a park candidate — a decision that escalates to ZEUS, not a unilateral desk-PM call. I do not park Meridian (that is ZEUS's call) and it stays an active member; the obligation remains escalated. Today's likely low-firing session is precisely the firing-rate cost that backtest must quantify.
Context: SPRT CONTINUE (n=2, W1/L1, LLR −0.156); spy_leg n=1, WR 100%, no trigger. Today's backdrop is the most level-reachable in days, but the reversal is conditional on exhaustion at the high.
No trades taken.
PM: Wicker (persona; own stack retired 2026-07-14 — this reflection covers active members Null + Meridian only).
Zero trades all week — no live trade since 08-06. The window (since the 08-07 reflection: 08-10, 08-11, 08-12, 08-13, 08-14) produced no qualifying setup for either active member, on a tape that kept compressing: sub-ATR ranges, LOW VIX the entire week (14.2–15.5), no clean trending leg, no clean gap. Desk window P&L $0. Desk cumulative (Null + Meridian, post-July 14) unchanged at +$1,420.85 (Null +$1,222.60 n=5, Meridian +$198.25 n=2).
Today (08-14) was the cleanest microcosm of the week: firm-wide GO, no Tier-1 event, LOW VIX 14.25, but a quiet ranging/choppy sub-ATR session (0.42–0.47× ATR) that slipped ~0.2% off Thursday's record. Retail Sales printed -0.6% (biggest drop in over a year, below +0.1% consensus) and Michigan sentiment fell to 51.0 (below ~54.5) — the consumer-morning the AM framed as "benign" was instead read as consumer weakness and capped the tape. The AM's session-character base case (record-high extension) was wrong-side, graded PARTIAL. For a reversion desk, the miss matters less than usual: the two members were stood down by code gates before any setup, not by the macro call. But the window as a whole carries a real, load-bearing finding for each member — the two gate stories diverge.
Five straight stand-downs, on two distinct gates that map cleanly onto the binding-gate question:
gap_ratio 0.022 (gap −0.31 pt) and today 08-14 gap_ratio 0.084 (gap +1.06 pt, up — trend-blocked above SMA20 anyway) — both far below the 0.1× floor. The compressed tape produced almost no overnight gap at all.max_retrace_ratio 0.00 (no open-drive reversal; drive_ok=False) and 08-13 max_retrace_ratio 0.30 vs 0.50 floor, drive_ok=True — the closest setup of the window: gap in-band (0.108), the drive formed, but the displacement retrace stalled at 0.30, a 0.20 miss off the threshold.Binding gate this period: regime-primary, with one calibration-adjacent data point. The dominant story is regime — a sub-ATR tape that either made almost no gap (0.022, 0.084) or no clean drive reversal (08-11). But 08-13 is the first session where drive_ok=True and the retrace reached a real 0.30 before the 0.50 floor stopped it — a genuine near-miss, not "the setup never came close." blocked=pattern on the retrace floor has recurred across sessions (07-15 0.00, 07-27 0.00, 08-11 0.00, 08-13 0.30), and 08-13 shows it can bind at a 0.20 miss when the drive does form. That's a calibration-style observation worth a TEMPER conversation, not a unilateral tweak — n=1 clean near-miss this window, but a recurring pattern gate. SPRT CONTINUE (n=5, W5/L0, 100% WR, LLR +1.060); 2026 WR watch intact through 5; ~55 paper trades to the 60-trade minimum. No degradation.
Five stand-downs, and here the gate story is the opposite shape — the setup repeatedly comes close and a threshold stops it. That is precisely the firing-rate signature the expansion backtest was built to quantify:
rsi_reject with max_rsi2 73.0 (QQQ) / 78.4 (SPY) vs the 88 threshold. The institutional stop-hunt occurred; RSI(2) just never got exhausted enough.no_sweep), QQQ by 1.62; today 08-14 SPY missed prior high 779.37 by 0.59 pt (day high 778.78) at ADX 21.9 — in-band, no sweep reached.adx_precheck 32.3 vs 32 ceiling — a 0.3 miss; today 08-14 QQQ adx_precheck 14.3 vs 18 floor (below-band coil). The most important single observation of the window: today QQQ's session high was 734.39 — above the prior high 733.94, i.e. the prior high was actually swept intraday on QQQ. But Meridian's QQQ line was gated at adx_precheck 14.3 (below the 18 floor) before any sweep was evaluated. The level-sweep surface was genuinely present in price today and the stack never saw it. That is the firing-rate cost in miniature — a sweep the gate stack stood down from on a pre-check.
Binding gate this period: calibration/firing-rate lean, not regime. The setup is not structurally absent — sweeps form (08-10), price approaches the level within a point (08-11, 08-14 SPY), ADX sits 0.3 off the band (08-13). Meridian is repeatedly grazing thresholds (RSI 88, ADX band, sweep proximity) rather than the setup never arriving. This is exactly the firing-rate question the expansion backtest — due 2026-08-09, binding, now five sessions past-due with no completion evidence — must quantify. The window's data strengthens the case: the gate stack is stopping Meridian at the threshold, not at regime absence. SPRT CONTINUE (n=2, W1/L1, LLR −0.156); spy_leg n=1, WR 100%, no trigger. No degradation flags.
